Reborn as the Sweetheart of a Paranoid Boss-Chapter 586: Reliving Our First Encounter
Then Selena Kensington was equipped with some tools.
After settling the bill, Selena prepared to leave.
"Wish you all a pleasant life."
Before leaving, the shop owner smiled and said to Selena.
Selena returned the smile and said, "Thank you, you too. I look forward to your daughter becoming an excellent person."
Then, Selena left the shop.
*
She had just placed the cake in the car, ready to drive back to the main house, when she received a call from Sterling Norwood.
"Hello, Sterling."
Upon answering, Selena called out through the phone.
"Mhm."
"Where are you?"
Sterling’s voice came through.
"I’m downtown, about to head home. What’s up?"
Selena glanced around but saw no sign of Sterling.
She exhaled slightly, almost thinking Sterling had seen her.
If Sterling had seen her, the surprise she’d been preparing would have gone to waste.
"Don’t go back yet, come to Aethelgard City Hospital; I’ll be waiting there."
On hearing Sterling mention the hospital, Selena’s excitement for the surprise vanished.
Her voice suddenly turned tense.
"Hospital? Are you injured?!"
Sterling’s tone carried a hint of reassurance, "I’m fine; you’ll understand when you get here."
"...Alright then, I’m coming now."
Hearing Sterling’s tone not sounding hurt, Selena relaxed a bit.
After agreeing, she hung up the phone.
Glancing at the cake on the passenger seat, she sighed lightly and drove to Aethelgard City Hospital.
*
Aethelgard City Hospital wasn’t far from where Selena was; it only took her ten minutes to drive there.
After parking, she grabbed her bag and stepped out of the car.
She walked towards the hospital building.
While walking, she called Sterling.
"Sterling, where are you?"
"Fifth floor, Building Three."
Knowing Sterling was already upstairs, Selena frowned slightly.
She was increasingly curious about why Sterling asked her to come to the hospital.
Following Sterling’s directions, Selena went to Building Three and took the elevator to the fifth floor.
The call with Sterling remained connected; Selena silently went upstairs while Sterling silently awaited her.
When she exited the elevator, she was about to look around for Sterling when his voice came from behind.
"I’m here."
Selena instantly turned around.
Seeing Sterling whole and without any signs of injury, Selena relaxed.
She walked over, "You really scared me just now."
She reached out and lightly poked Sterling’s chest.
The accusatory tone was filled with worry.
Sterling chuckled and enclosed Selena’s hand in his palm.
"Sorry for worrying you."
Selena huffed lightly and then asked curiously, "Why did you bring me here?"
Sterling didn’t answer, instead leading Selena further inside.
The further they went, Selena saw many pregnant women sitting on chairs.
She faintly heard the cries of several babies.
"..."
Selena’s mind instantly conjured an old drama scenario where the husband cheats and the mistress shows up pregnant.
But the thought passed quickly, making Selena chuckle at herself.
Perhaps she was influenced by the novels Vivian Sutton read; otherwise, why would she think such things?
She had no reason to doubt Sterling.
Because she knew, and was confident that in his eyes, there was only her.
Sterling stopped outside the nursery room.
Through the glass window, Selena could see numerous babies lying inside.
Some were asleep, some looked around curiously...
Selena was puzzled about why Sterling brought her here.
Sterling then resolved her confusion.
He pointed to a crib in the nursery room.
Selena followed his gesture.
The crib was empty at the moment.
"Over twenty years ago, you were lying there with your eyes open looking at me, and I was standing where we are now."
Selena was completely dumbfounded.
Her eyes widened slightly, disbelief evident as she looked at the crib.
She just realized she was indeed born in this hospital.
Sterling remembered it so clearly...
Selena didn’t remember anything about being born, nor did she know what she did then.
So she couldn’t fathom Sterling’s feelings at that time.
But thinking back, over twenty years ago today.
A little boy, due to their bond, came here to witness her awakening.
And later volunteered to be bound by her presence.
Thinking of this, Selena’s eyes started to brim with emotion.
She couldn’t understand why just one glance could make Sterling persist so long.
Persist to the point where even if he couldn’t find her, he never gave up.
Now she knew, he was worth her everything.
Sterling’s gaze brought her back from her thoughts.
"Are you crying?"
Sterling’s voice was unusually gentle, as if one could drown in his tender trap.
"No way..."
Selena instinctively refuted Sterling’s words, only realizing her eyes were slightly teary moments later.
Embarrassed, she wanted to lift a hand to wipe her eyes, but Sterling was quicker.
His uplifted hand moved gently, as if afraid even the slightest force would hurt the person before him.
"I brought you here to let you see where we first met."
Sterling’s voice was faint but contained a touch of warmth.
"...Yes."
Selena looked again at the crib in the nursery room.
Feeling something wonderful.
Selena never imagined what emotions she might have visiting her birthplace like this.
But knowing that from her birth, someone watched over her.
Cautiously observing her growth, afraid to touch her.
And that person now became her husband.
Selena’s heart melted.
A nurse walked over at this point.
"Are you two relatives here to see a child? We need you to show your identification..."
Seeing the nurse, Selena lightly shook her head, "No, we’re just looking from outside."
Then, Selena took Sterling’s hand and led him away.
*
Once they left the hospital, Selena glanced at Sterling beside her, "Shall we go back?"
"Let’s drop by the training camp first."
Seeing Sterling guide her towards his car, Selena quickly spoke up, "But my car..."
Sterling paused, "We’ll come back for it later."
"...No way!"
