Reborn: The Return of the Villainous Mr. Liu-Chapter 1124: The annoying return
The betrothal, which involved the groom’s family presenting gifts to the bride’s family, went over as a smooth process from start to finish. The Liu family naturally didn’t slack about anything and had prepared the finest gifts for the Ren family to acknowledge the efforts and love in raising their daughter.
The bride’s family would then present dowry gifts for the groom’s family, which generally consisted of some very practical items for their daughter to be able to live and settle comfortably in her new house. These two traditions were usually followed on separate days but they decided to have both rituals together.
Liu Hai, who definitely wanted to share his commentary on the groom’s side of gifts, couldn’t participate at all to his disappointment. Instead, he was made to face the pillar and reflect on his actions.
"I-I want to look at the gifts too!"
"You are only looking at the pillar," Liu Chunhua shot him down.
The lavish gifts from the Lius’ included the finest gold jewelry, red boxes showing a dragon and a phoenix which symbolised harmony between husband and wife, traditional foods like red dates and lotus seeds, but the gifts that got Mui’s attention and drool were the plethora of red lacquered gift boxes that held pairs of every gift item. Of course, a huge cash envelope was a part of all the gifts, also including fine wine and some very elegant silk fabrics. Everything screamed of prestige and wealth.
Mui picked one beautifully embroidered garment and said, "This is so pretty! I want this toooooo."
Ren Cuifen slapped a smack on her head. "These are your sister’s bridal gifts. You cannot have them."
"Then I want to get married too!"
Her brow twitched. "You want to get married only to get the gifts?"
"Uh-huh. If the gifts are luxurious like these then hell yes I will!"
"You don’t get married for such shallow reasons."
"Hey, this stole is not a shallow reason, okay? And this fine liquor bottle! And of course the c-cash..." she cleared her throat.
Jing proudly said, "The stole is the one I especially made. If you want, I can stitch one for you too~"
Her eyes sparkled golden. "Really?"
"Since you are such a fan of my art, why not~?"
The Ren family’s side of gifts didn’t hold back either. Jing immediately jumped upon a beautiful sewing kit.
"Can I have that sewing kit!!" At the moment, he and Mui acted like long-lost twins.
Nian got added into the mix and formed a triplet when his gaze locked on to a very elegant tea set.
"That tea set would look so pretty in my bakery! With all the cakes! Can I have that?"
The two earned their fair share of smacks from their mothers respectively.
"Don’t eye somebody else’s wedding gifts!" Nana scolded.
"What are Jin and Alix gonna do with the tea set! Let me have it instead," he sniffled as if his life was on the line.
Jin silently threw a glare at his brother and uncle to not embarrass him.
Amidst this drooling over of gifts, Aang and Taio trotted over to Alix’s side and blushingly presented their origami gifts to her.
Alix held the pretty red rose that Aang had made with a proper stem and leaves attached to it. Though it was slightly rough around the edges, she clearly felt how much time and effort he must have put into practicing making this.
"Pastry aunt is pretty like the rose!" He blushed.
Taio had made a boat and grinned. "I will take pastry aunt on a sea trip! We go lots of places!"
"These are really pretty...You practiced a lot, huh?"
They grinned and blushed from ear-to-ear. "Hehe..."
Ailun and Yina were impressed too. "Pretty!"
Alix hugged the two brothers to her chest and cleared her throat. "Thanks a lot. Your rose and boat are the loveliest presents of all."
Jin could see how hard she was trying not to let her eyes turn misty and smiled.
Liu Hai cried. "Can I look at the origami gifts too?"
"You are only looking at the pillar," his wife shot him down yet again.
He burst into tears with his grievances but did as was told.
She then clapped her hands once in delight. "Since the gifts are in place, how about we look at the dates for the wedding?"
Again, setting of the wedding date was supposed to happen at a later stage after the betrothal but since both families were already present with the first rituals completed, they didn’t see it as a necessity to wait for another day.
Nana happily said, "We have invited a very gifted Feng Shui master to help us decide the auspicious day for us. He should be reaching here anytime soon."
Just then, one of the maids came and informed everyone of the Feng Shui master waiting at the entrance.
"Oh, oh, please let him in," Ren Cuifen quickly said.
A minute later, a man dressed in a red robe with golden embroidery on his sleeves walked in with a calm and refined grace.
Jin’s gaze locked at the master for several long seconds and then he gasped. "It’s YOU!!"
Everybody threw a surprised look at Jin, but he was still busy believing the reality in front of his eyes. It all came down to him like a movie scene of how a certain God had disguised himself as a human during his Guangzhou trip seven years ago. The same man who sat beside Shui in the flight doing her palm-reading and fortune-telling and making him feel jealous of their closeness.
It’s that annoying God of Fate!
’Be very careful of who you call annoying, brat.’
Jin felt he heard a voice in his head, which by the looks and irksome smile on that Feng Shui master’s face, was definitely him.
His brow twitched hard.
’Call me annoying once again and you will see your wedding date set far, faaaaaar in the future. How about a year from now? Oooooo or maybe five years?’
"..."
