Chapter 1130: Express delivery

By the fifth night, Alix’s state was growing miserable. Yes, the wedding preparations were going in full swing but not her bridal aura, which was far from glowing.

Apart from a bunch of regular pillows she had tried using to get sleep, she had especially ordered a full-size body pillow to curb the need for her big bear hug.

She didn’t get it.

Nothing came close to Jin’s fluffy, warm embrace and by now, the wrinkles under her eyes and the frustration in her mind was only ever increasing.

This is bad. I cannot look like this on the wedding day.

It was almost two in the morning and sleep was yet to bless her. She tossed and turned, did some exercises and even meditation but her eyes simply failed to close for the sweet lala land.

Alix flopped back onto the bed, her arms spread wide with her long hair chaotically fanned out like a storm.

"Ughhh," she groaned out loud to the ceiling. "I’m going to turn into a zombie bride at this rate."

Her phone sat silently on the nightstand, screen dark. For a few minutes, she stared at it, debating.

Should I call him? Would he be awake?

Alix contemplated this for a long, long time. Naturally, they had been in continuous touch through chats and calls but she knew that if she didn’t get sleep tonight, she would turn cranky as hell tomorrow morning.

Well, he claims that it’s hard for him to sleep too so time to test him.

With determined fingers, she picked up the phone and hit Jin’s contact. The line rang twice before she heard his familiar voice.

"Alix!"

Her eyes widened. She looked back and forth between her phone and Jin’s name. The zeal in his voice even at two in the morning took her aback. She had expected a tired and groggy response.

"Hi," she whispered.

"What happened? Why did you call? Are you hurt?" His train of thoughts ran to the world of wild and extremes.

"Why would I be hurt?"

"You called me at such an odd time."

So it’s hard to believe that I’m miss-

Alix coughed out loud.

It’s not like that, she thought to herself.

"Are you sick!?" The decibels of his voice grew louder. "Why did you fall sick?"

"No, I’m not-"

"Where’s your sister? Is Uncle and Aunt beside you?"

"I’m not sick!" She exclaimed. "Listen to people when they are talking!"

"Oh," he breathed out in relief. "You scared me!"

"You just assume everything at its worst, don’t you?"

"But you coughed. I thought you caught a cold. So what happened?"

Her brow slightly twitched. She decided to call him but forgot to decide the reason behind it. Her mind raced to think.

"...I was wondering about the preparations from your side."

"Preparations? Yeah, they are going well. Nothing slips past Mom and Grandma’s attention. Why do you ask?"

"Just like that. By the way, your sister-in-laws say that you are not getting sleep. Have you already become as thin as paper that wind can blow you away any moment now?"

"..."

"Whose fault do you think it is that my handsome complexion is turning into a zombie? I’m not even sure anymore if you will be ready to marry me on the wedding day when I’ll be looking so ugly."

A zombie bride and a zombie groom, huh? We match then...

"I have full faith in your makeup artists~" She smiled and leaned back on the bed.

Jin paused for a moment and asked, "You really called just to ask about the wedding preparations?"

She grimaced. "Is that a problem?"

"When you already know that everything is being taken care of?" He sounded more suspicious.

"It’s quite chaotic here so I thought the situation mirrored at your side," she calmly said. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

He held a longer pause this time.

"Are you missing me?"

"..."

"I knew it!" The decibels of his voice now took an ecstatic turn. "You are missing me!"

"Like I said, I just-"

"You are not getting any sleep, are you?"

The excitement in his voice irked her.

It was a mistake calling him...

"Hehe, you are missing me too, right?"

This time, she imagined a silly grin on his face that placated her irksome countenance. Like always, she had trouble expressing the simplest of her feelings. She grabbed her body pillow and frowned.

"Okay fine, I admit the body pillow is nothing like you."

"Body pillow?"

"I spent a lot of money on this, okay? It was supposed to mimic a real hug. It turned out to be useless. I want a refund. I’m gonna sue the pillow company because they sold me false promises."

"...You bought a body pillow because you were missing my hug?"

The ’yes’ was at the tip of her tongue.

"I must say you are a good sleeping medicine and now I’m getting dark circles all over my face. So don’t blame me if I pass out the second you hold me on the wedding day."

Suddenly, Jin laughed out loud.

"There’s nothing to laugh about this," her brows crinkled.

"You know, I thought I would like it more hearing you admit your feelings but I must say, your roundabout way of saying things is more amusing."

She made a face.

"Clearly, the sleeplessness from all these nights has affected your mental capacity. Should I be worried?"

"So you called me to hear my voice because you were missing me soooooo much? Because the body pillow wasn’t Liu Jin?"

Why is he hung up on that?

She smiled. "Oh my look at the time now. Good night."

She hung up without a second’s thought and threw murderous glares at his name.

He is finding all this so very entertaining, isn’t he?

She pulled the duvet over head and covered herself to sleep while cursing the hell out of her husband.

In the middle of the night, she felt a poke on her shoulder. She was only lightly snoozy so it wasn’t hard for her sleep to drift apart. Then her heart was in her throat.

Huh? Who poked me? Who is in my room at this time?

But wait, I’m safe in my house. It cannot be a burglar.

She pulled out her duvet, exasperated. "Mui, what are you doing?"

Through the faint light coming from the window, she recognized a man’s face with a sweet smile on his lips, his black irises twinkling with love.

"Your big bear came on an express train to deliver your bear hug."
