Reborn: The Return of the Villainous Mr. Liu-Chapter 1131: Break the tradition
Alix, at first, obviously thought that this was a dream. Her wishful mind, deprived of sleep now, was hallucinating Jin in her room.
"Go away. Don’t bother me with illusions," she waved her hand in dismissal and turned the other way.
She felt her shoulder pulled back and make her face the same look-alike of Jin.
"You are not hallucinating. I’m really here."
Which earned him a slap across his face.
"Why did you slap me!" He quickly lowered his voice to a hush.
Her eyes widened, dumbfounded. "That actually hit? Wait, you are really here?"
Jin rubbed his cheek full of grievances. "That’s some way to welcome your husband who came all the way in the middle of the night to hug you!"
Alix was at a loss.
"How? You climbed the window? But it’s closed."
"Your sister led me in. Secretly. She is guarding outside for now."
The door creaked open right at that moment and Mui popped her sweaty head in.
"Can I leave now?" She whispered. "Also, you owe me for this! Both of you! If Mom found out that I colluded with you, she is gonna bury me alive! So you better leave early in the morning tomorrow before anybody wakes up, okay? Don’t make me remind you. I sleep till late. And if anybody catches you, then you are on your own. I’m gonna feign ignorance in this matter. Good night!"
Before Alix could ask anything else, the door was slammed shut. She half-sat up and almost switched on the bedside lamp but decided against it. For now, the natural light was enough to see his face.
She reached out towards him and held his cheek softly.
"Does it hurt?"
He mumbled. "If you caress it, it won’t..."
It now finally registered that Jin was really, physically present in her room. A flicker of his warmth swayed across her palm. Only five days had gone by, yet she felt she was meeting him after a long time. It felt foolish to feel this emotional over a simple reunion, yet here she was anyway.
"We are not supposed to meet," she said slowly.
He paused and his face turned into a big pout. "How could I sit still knowing that you couldn’t sleep? What if you fall sick? Did you drink some warm milk?"
"No."
He softly glared. "You should."
"I had the body pillow with me. It was supposed to make me sleep. It didn’t do anything."
He harrumphed. "How can it beat me? I’m hurt that you even tried to replace me!"
His fury flew away like a balloon bursting when she dropped herself in his arms. She slowly wrapped her hands around his back and just rested her head on his chest, breathing out with measured breaths.
The familiar scent and warmth filled her heart as if she found shade under a big tree that gave her relief from walking in the bright sun all day long. It felt calm and pleasant like a void was filled. The annoying buzz in her mind drowned.
Jin was taken aback. She was bold when it came to sex but hesitant regarding gestures like such. A smile bloomed on his lips as he hugged her back.
"Feeling better now?"
"You have no idea..." she muttered. "It’s just the right texture, firmness, fluffiness and warmth."
His brow faintly twitched.
Feels like she is selling me as some product...
"But you have lost weight."
He dropped his chin on the top of her head. "I missed you a lot."
"Does that mean you don’t eat?"
"I do but I miss you so much that the food metabolizes too quickly."
She looked up and narrowed her eyes. "Don’t drag emotions into everything. You are not eating properly."
"Trust me, I’m eating well. Do you think Mom will let me go hungry? She will twist my ears and force the food down my throat."
His eyes narrowed next. "But look at yourself too. What are those bags I see under your eyes? You are not taking care of yourself at all!"
"It’s all your bear hug’s fault."
He shook his head and then crawled over to the other side. He laid on the bed with his arm stretched out wide and then gently pulled her down. He completely wrapped her against his chest as if he was a gift wrapper around a present.
She pressed her cheek, feeling the soft vibrations of his heart rhythm. Yet again, she felt like she was floating in the air, feeling light like a feather by his embrace. It was like magic. Sleep evaded her all this time but now it was like it suddenly became her best friend.
She took a silent breath and decided to express how much she missed him. When she looked and found his black eyes gazing at her intently, the words slipped back in her throat.
Why is this so difficult...? She cursed herself.
"Aren’t you worried this will cause a scandal?"
He cocked his brow. "A scandal between a married couple?"
"We broke the tradition."
"I would frame it like breaking the cause of my beautiful wife’s sleepless nights."
"I wouldn’t have died with two more days."
"I sure would have become paper easily blown away by the wind."
She arched her brow, a light chuckle escaping her lips. "You are an idiot. Your mother will be really mad if she comes to you that you sneaked out."
"That’s why I have to be back home before anybody wakes up," he sweated.
Seeing his adorable fear made her kiss him, to which he shamelessly latched onto for a long, long time. He withdrew himself, glaring at her.
"Don’t t-tempt me into doing something else...! As if it’s already not hard enough to hold back..." he muttered. "Sleep now," he tugged her head down and pulled closer.
The gentle hum of his breathing made her feel drowsy and her eyelids dropped shut by themselves. "Yeah...I should...I..."
Jin smiled.
"... really missed you..."
He blinked rapidly and as he realized her words she confessed involuntarily, his heart thudded fast like it was an express train itself. Though it wasn’t a conscious confession, happiness crossed all bounds for him upon hearing the sweet words slip out of her lips.
He dropped a peck to her forehead, feeling emotional. "M-Mhm. I missed you too. A lot. Good night, my dear wife. Have a beautiful sleep tonight," he whispered sweetly into her ear.
