Reborn: The Return of the Villainous Mr. Liu-Chapter 1139: New beginning
Jin sweated.
Where the hell am I supposed to bring ten parfaits from! That too we are in the middle of the ceremony!
Jian said, "Little brother, I think you have expressed your respects enough. Aren’t your necks hurting?"
His brow twitched heavily. "That..."
The beads of sweat got bigger.
’Hah! Got you~ Well, go ahead and raise your heads.’
The two finally did so but not without some heavily disgruntled expressions.
"Why are you two looking so... annoyed?" Nana was dumbfounded.
Jin coughed and quickly retracted his frustration back into a smile. "No, Mom. Of course not. How can I be annoyed on my wedding day?"
’Well I gave you back your freedom so I better see those parfaits as soon as possible or I will bring a calamity,’ The God of Fate chimed in.
His gaze darkened.
Was all this just harassment?
’Yup. It’s so fun with you two.’
"..."
Jun frowned. "Are you two okay? You really seem angry for some reason."
Liu Hai gasped. "Is Jini-boy bullying you!?"
"No, I didn’t! We were just feeling uncomfortable because-"
’Parfaits.’
"...because it’s a little hot so-"
’Parfaits.’
His teeth seethed with anger at the constant telepathic interruption.
"So we were wondering..."
’Parfaits.’ 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
"It would be good if we could have some parfaits."
Alix said expressionlessly, "Parfaits are delicious. Perfect for the hot weather. Let’s just have some parfaits. Right now."
Everybody was speechless.
"You suddenly want to eat parfaits?" Jing’s jaw dropped. Then he sparkled. "Of course! Look, as much as I love you two, I was getting damn hungry."
Liu Hai nodded earnestly. "My dearest granddaughter-in-law always has such great ideas!"
Liu Chunhua’s eyes narrowed. "Who says you are going to eat any of it?"
He cried. "I have to! It’s the wedding day today!"
Nian chirped. "I’m always ready for sweets!"
Nana glared. "The ceremony isn’t over yet!"
She bent and twisted Jin’s ear. "Ow, ow, Mom!"
"You can eat whatever you want but first drink the wine from that glass and complete the ceremony. You cannot turn out to become like the twins!"
"Hey! We feel wrongly accused," Jian complained.
"And don’t you brainwash him if he wants to get to this side!" Nian joined in.
"Quiet you two!"
Jin took the cup and took a sip of the wine followed by Alix, taking a sip from the same cup as they faced each other. They bowed to each other once when they heard a voice again.
’You will have a good life together.’
Their eyes widened as the familiar voice echoed in their ears. But instead of bullying them into doing something embarrassing this time, it simply spoke to them with a calm voice.
’Your fates were sealed the moment time had turned back. It was your wish that set the entire thing in motion, Liu Jin. You brought happiness in many lives. I’m glad you understood what it meant by giving up your ’happy future.’’
Jin’s jaw slightly tightened, overwhelmed by emotions as he thought about the past.
’I disappointed Shui...’
’Like I said before, one wish changed everything. Why did you think it wouldn’t change her life for her? Everybody found their own path to their happiness, which is what you were meant to do anyway. Humans assume they know what they want. They don’t. If you hold onto the same decisions as you made in the past, then what was the point of the second chance? She will meet her own future just like you did.’
Jin released a slow breath.
This time, Alix heard the voice crystal clear. "This applies to your friend too. Good things come your way when you understand when it’s right to give up. Just like good things came to you when you knew to give up your revenge.’
She thought about Lin and his feelings he had confessed to her. Even before that, she thought about all those times Lin had been a good friend to her. A friend who went through her plans despite not agreeing to it himself. A man in love who chose to die by Zhan Yahui’s side in the past instead of running away from the Lius’.
’He damn be the happiest man on earth,’ she quietly said, her eyelashes faintly quivering. That was all she could say and wish from the bottom of her heart.
’Give him everything that he deserved to have all this time.’
God’s voice chuckled. ’He will. You two are two peas in a pod. Well, of course you were. I write fates after all.’
Jin asked, ’What kind of a man Shui will-’
’This is like asking the examiner what are the answers to the questions in the question paper. Very bold of you, I must say. Weren’t you a diligent student?’
The corner of his lips twitched.
They then felt God’s voice fading away into the distance.
’Live well.’
For the first time, a smile curved their lips upon hearing God of Fate speak.
’And continue to offer me sweets from time to time.’
Their brows twitched.
What is with Him and sweets?
’I will write your children’s fates as well so make sure to keep me happy.’
"..."
"*Ahem!* He cleared his throat.
Why did he suddenly divert the topic to our children!
’As long as I get my sweets.’
Alix sneered. ’So Gods also have a bribery system.’
’Everybody has a bribery system. Now shoo. Get on with your happily married life. Your wedding is now complete. And this is my wedding present.’
A shimmering scarlet thread twisted around their wrists. One end looped around Jin’s and the other around Alix’s hand that connected at the center. The silk tightened into a perfect knot, leaving behind a faint warmth.
’This is the red thread of fate humans keep talking about in their stories. It’s invisible but always there. It’s nice to actually get to see it, right?’
Disbelief filled their expressions as they watched the scarlet thread of fate sparkle. For a heartbeat, they both felt each other’s pulse, steady and sure, like two rhythms syncing into one.
They lifted their heads, staring into each other’s eyes. Once again as he met his beautiful bride’s gaze, tears pooled in his eyes. It had been a long way since they had reached this moment today and with God’s blessing, he finally felt that their story had come to a beautiful closure.
No. Not closure.
It was a new beginning.
