Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 465: To Become a Monster (1)
It didn’t take long, and Adrienne fell asleep, but her husband remained awake. Even after showering and returning to their bed with her, holding her in his arms, Lennox remained restless. He couldn’t shake off the feeling of unease that had been nagging at him. No matter how Adrienne assured him, the dread that lingered in his mind refused to dissipate.
They planned to strike Alistair while Adrienne was distracting him, but Lennox didn’t want her to go. He feared for her safety and couldn’t bear the thought of something happening to her. After learning how Alistair treated her in her past life, how could he stand by and allow her to put herself in harm’s way?
He didn’t like the idea of her being left alone with Alistair. If possible, he would do whatever it takes to protect her from him, but it would be hard for Lennox to dissuade her from changing her mind. She was determined to face the danger head-on.
Alistair would never stop until he could have Adrienne in his hands. He lay dormant and kept a low profile for the past two years, but returned with a vengeance.
Lennox remained awake until four in the morning. He was so deep in his head that it took him a few moments to hear the sound of a phone ringing. He reached out to the bedside table to reach for his phone but realized it was his wife’s phone ringing instead.
"Addie. Wake up, Addie."
Adrienne stirred on the bed next to him and blinked her eyes at him. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
"Hmm? Len? What time is it?" She asked.
"Myrtle is calling you." He answered as the ringing persisted.
Adrienne sat up and ran her fingers through her thick, long hair before he handed her phone to her to answer. Lennox was about to slip out of bed to give her privacy, but Adrienne pressed the loud speaker button and said, "It’s okay, you can stay."
"Myrtle?" She answered the phone.
"Oh my god, Addie! Thank goodness you answered!" Myrtle’s panicked voice filled the room.
That immediately made Adrienne concerned for Myrtle’s well-being.
"What’s going on?"
"Someone tried to break into my apartment earlier. I woke up from the sound and saw a shadow near my bedroom window," Myrtle explained, her voice trembling. "I grabbed my keys and phone with me and ran out of the apartment as quickly as possible. What do I do, Addie? I think they are still following me."
Alarm flashed in Adrienne’s eyes as she gave her husband a knowing look. She had given Myrtle a week off from work and heard from Lennox that Myrtle would be moving to Gavin’s place soon, but neither of them expected something like this to happen.
"Where are you, Myrtle? Tell me what your exact location is. Lennox and I would come and find you immediately."
Lennox moved to the dresser and handed his wife some clothes to wear before pulling out a coat for himself. He put on the coat and then grabbed his phone to make the call. He asked Jet and Jasper to meet them at the house’s front door as quickly as possible.
"I’m driving to Jinxiu Garden, but this heavy rain is making it hard for me to see the road clearly. I’m driving on Cloud Avenue, going to Hyacinth Boulevard," Myrtle answered. "Addie, I’m scared. Did my brother truly lose his mind this time?"
Adrienne met Lennox’s gaze. Myrtle would need to cross and reach the end of Hyacinth Boulevard before she could reach the gates of Jinxiu Garden. She wasn’t that far but wasn’t close enough for her safety. As soon as Myrtle reached the gates of Jinxiu Garden, Alistair’s men couldn’t capture her. However, given how bad the weather had become, reaching the gates of Jinxiu Garden seemed almost impossible to do quickly.
"Keep driving, Myrtle. Lennox and I are on our way. Don’t let them catch you." Adrienne said. She did not waste her time and started dressing in layers upon layers of warm clothing her husband had given her.
"Stay on the line, Myrtle." Lennox said this time. "We’re coming."
He then looked at his wife.
"Let’s go, Addie. Jasper is waiting for us downstairs."
The couple rushed downstairs to find Jasper and the others waiting for them. They couldn’t reach Hyacinth Boulevard on foot and decided to drive there instead. Five black cars drove to Myrtle’s location, but the rain was almost giving them zero visibility. Despite the challenging weather conditions, they were determined to find Myrtle.
Lennox held his wife’s hand tightly, sensing tension coming from her. He knew how worried she was about their friend. Lennox whispered reassuring words to Addie, reminding her that they would do whatever it took to bring Myrtle back safely. The sound of rain pounding against the car windows seemed to amplify their determination, fueling their resolve to find Myrtle no matter what obstacles they faced.
They could hear Myrtle’s harsh breathing from the other line, occasionally hearing her swear in hush tones as she tried to navigate the dark and treacherous path ahead. They knew they had to reach her before it was too late.
Their group managed to reach Hyacinth Boulevard before Myrtle. Her car was nowhere in sight, so Lennox decided to continue driving. However, they hadn’t reached Cloud Avenue yet when Myrtle’s scream pierced through the silence, sending chills down their spines.
"Myrtle!" Adrienne shouted at her, her heart pounding with fear. "What’s going on? Answer me!"
But they only heard a loud screech from the other line, forcing Lennox to press on the accelerator and drive towards Myrtle’s location as fast as possible. They had a sinking feeling that something terrible had happened.
There was a commotion on the other line as they heard Myrtle screaming for help.
"Let me go! Let me go!" Myrtle screamed, her voice filled with sheer terror.
Adrienne’s face blanched as their car pulled to a stop. They saw Myrtle being dragged out of her car by three men.
Lennox’s grip on the steering wheel tightened as adrenaline surged through his veins. He could hear the panic in Myrtle’s voice and her cries for help echoing in his ears.
"Stay here, Addie! No matter what happens, don’t go outside!"
He stepped outside the car without hesitation and was immediately drenched by the heavy rain. Meanwhile, Adrienne’s heart pounded in her chest as she watched her husband confront the three men who had taken Myrtle. She knew Lennox was strong and capable, but the odds were against him. She wanted to rush out and help him, but she remembered his words and stayed inside the car, her hands gripping the phone in her hand.
