Redemption of a Born Demon-Chapter 56: Another Wave Rises: A Bodhisattva in the Wilderness
Somewhere in the city, on the third floor of a privately built house.
The windows of the room were all covered with black cloth. Various electronic devices were arranged inside, and several staff members bustled in front of the equipment, constantly sending and receiving information as they whispered into their earpieces.
They were all Donghua intelligence personnel undercover in Nanyang. Ever since receiving orders from their superiors a short time ago, they had been closely monitoring any and all activity in the city, hoping to find a trace of their person of interest. But to this day, their efforts had yielded nothing.
"Boss, we have news! There’s been an attack at Oleduo Mansion! The scene is in complete chaos! According to descriptions from staff who fled the building, there was only one attacker. It has to be him!"
Suddenly, one of the intelligence officers spoke up.
"The Oulaido Group? What’s the situation over there now?!"
A middle-aged man’s eyelid twitched upon hearing this, and he hurriedly asked.
He knew the whole story. When he first received the intelligence and orders from his superiors, he thought it was a joke.
A single person had traveled on foot from Spring City. He was to enter a chaotic foreign land all alone, with no intelligence or support, to attack a target that they, despite being undercover for a long time, had yet to pinpoint.
It was like something out of the Arabian Nights. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
And yet, in just one short day, an attack had actually happened here.
"Our people have reached the perimeter of the scene and sent back photos."
An officer said gravely. The middle-aged man hurried over to look. He saw the building flickering with firelight, the bloody corpses littering the ground, and the crowds of people frantically fleeing from all parts of the mansion.
"Judging from the photos, his attack is likely going very smoothly. The forces inside Oleduo Mansion can’t hold out."
Another officer spoke gravely, finding it hard to imagine what that scene must be like.
’One man, making everyone in an entire building flee for their lives?’
This wasn’t some domestic office building, after all. This was the Pioneer Group’s Nanyang headquarters, which contained an unknown number of Super Warriors, heavily armed and enhanced soldiers, and special weapons developed specifically to counter Super Warriors!
"Old Ji just reported in. He and his team took advantage of the chaos and have successfully infiltrated Oleduo Mansion. They’re going to try and make contact with him!"
An officer wearing a headset said.
"Tell them to be extremely careful!"
The middle-aged man said in a low voice.
About three minutes later.
"Old Ji reports that the contact plan failed. The target didn’t take the stairs at all. Instead, he leaped from an upper floor and landed on the roof of a six-story building several dozen meters away from the mansion. He’s disappeared now. Old Ji and his team didn’t sense any movement from the upper floors. They suspect he might have killed all the security personnel sent to surround him, which is why he left the building."
"Old Ji has changed his plan. He’s going to take his team to the upper floors to check the situation. It’s an important Pioneer Group stronghold, so they might find something valuable."
The officer reported again.
Hearing this, the middle-aged man couldn’t help but take a deep breath.
Their superiors’ orders were to do everything in their power to help him and ensure the safety of his operation.
But now, forget about helping—they couldn’t even manage to contact him. A person like this was elusive, like an Immortal or a God, completely unfathomable.
"Old Ji is sending over some scene photos..."
Soon, the officer trailed off, unable to speak. The others gathered around, confused.
Bodies lay scattered everywhere, blood staining the shattered hallways...
On photo after photo, they saw scenes straight out of Hell, scenes that assaulted their senses and made them feel intensely disturbed.
It was hard to imagine that one person had caused all this.
"Boss, local militias are mobilizing and heading toward Oleduo Mansion. What are your orders?"
Suddenly, someone else reported.
"Report the situation to our superiors. Have them put pressure on Myanmar. Also, tell Old Ji and his team to be careful. It would be best if they can find some intelligence, but if not, they should withdraw as soon as possible."
The middle-aged man said, exhaling.
’As for his safety?’
’With our level of strength, we probably don’t even have the right to worry about that.’
Judging by his performance so far, the idea that the local militias could threaten him within the city limits was nothing but a fool’s dream.
In comparison, the documents and items left behind in the Pioneer Group branch were what they should really be concerned about.
This chaotic land of Northern Myanmar was hiding quite a few intelligence organizations from all over the world.
News of what happened here would soon spread beyond this city to the rest of the world.
「Meanwhile.」
Yi Beidou had killed all the security personnel who came to surround him. Sensing that a large number of people in the building had already taken the opportunity to escape, he didn’t give chase and chose to leave the mansion instead.
He had eliminated the main force of this Pioneer Group branch, and its director had been killed. His objective was essentially complete.
As for the subsequent events and consequences, those were not his concern.
He prepared to leave the city.
CRACK! CRACK!
Yi Beidou’s bones crackled as his body changed shape again. He then ducked into a residential house and quickly changed into a set of ordinary clothes.
He stood in the shadows on a rooftop, watching the chaotic street not far away. A large number of armed personnel were rushing toward Oleduo Mansion, while many others were blockading the surrounding roads and conducting searches block by block.
This was a city of chaos, teeming with Evil Ghosts, but Yi Beidou understood perfectly well that these ghouls could never all be killed.
The real breeding ground for these demons and monsters was the very soil beneath their feet.
His figure vanished into the shadows. He had no interest in getting entangled with these small fry, so he avoided the search parties and headed toward the outskirts of the city.
For him, the greatest threat in this operation had come from the Pioneer Group branch itself. As for the local militias, an organization that even lacked heavy weaponry, there was no way they could stop him if he wanted to leave.
About an hour later, Yi Beidou left the edge of the city and re-entered the mountain forest, heading toward the Donghua Country Border.
However, things didn’t end so easily. Although Yi Beidou had acted with speed, ruthlessness, and decisiveness, it was just as Yue Ming had said: once you left the Donghua Country Border, you never knew what you might encounter.
After walking several miles into the mountain forest, Yi Beidou’s expression faltered slightly. The pores on his skin contracted, and he came to an abrupt halt.
From the shadows behind a large tree up ahead, an old monk unexpectedly emerged.
This person had white eyebrows and looked quite old, but his facial skin was still firm, fair, and smooth. His eyes were downcast, and he seemed to exude a sense of compassion.
What was most eye-catching was the old monk’s appearance: neither male nor female, possessing an ineffable, divine air.
Neither male nor female—this was the visage of a Bodhisattva.
"So, a Free Celestial Demon truly has descended upon the world. You injured my grand-disciple, so I knew the karmic bond between us would be hard to sever. I must deliver you to the Western Heaven to see the Buddha and thus prove my Cultivation."
The old monk pressed his palms together. His voice was layered and overlapping, echoing through the forest without fading.
