Chapter 616: Chapter 616: They

While Taurus the Primordial Buffalo and Charvi the Primordial Peacock went ahead with the caste leaders of their respective races, Ivana was taken in by the deputy leaders of the Fox caste.

Now that Vixy was dead and gone, there was no leader to guide the fox race. It was either that Ivan would have to step up, as young as she was, or a deputy leader would have to step in to be the temporary leader until Ivana could take over.

Kael thought of the Regent system of governance the Dragon Empire had employed.

The Destruction Dragon Empire was a remarkably stable civilization with a minimal record of internal strife.

This was partly because of Ibadon but also because of how ambition was managed and how political power was shared.

Normally, the empire was heavily decentralized with no single faction holding a monopoly over one aspect of the empire.

There was a balance.

Dragon officials could have power, but they were not immune to the consequences of their actions.

There was the Regent who also stood in to serve as the highest form of power in the empire whenever there was no Primordial Dragon to take the role of emperor or empress.

Before Ibadon was born, there had been other regents as very few of them had ever made it to the immortal tier and pretty much all of them were dead by now having been killed off by one thing or the other.

But even then, the Regents could never claim complete control over the empire without facing serious backlash.

Supreme Sovereignty was reserved for the Primordial Dragons.

Of course, if Ibadon had wanted to take full control over the Dragon Empire, reshape the governance system, and centralize all political power, he may have been able to succeed.

And to an extent he did, he almost did. He had been pushed to do so many times when the lion frustrated him beyond mortal comprehension.

Unfortunately, the one who had elected him as Regent, his grandfather, the previous Dragon Emperor, had followed the cautious nature of his predecessors.

To avoid a situation where the Dragon race fell into the hands of a foreigner, many rules and safety measures had been in place.

For one, the Regent was not permitted to publicly or privately have any offspring.

There was no need to enforce this rule since Ibadon was already infertile due to his status as a hybrid abomination.

Secondly, the previous Dragon Emperor knew that no matter how powerful Ibadon got, the dragons would never submit to him with their full heart, they would only obey his strength.

Even Ibadon knew this.

Along with the many other safeguards to prevent the Regent from usurping the Primordial Dragon the way Ma’abu had done, the Dragon Empire was very stable.

It was unlike the Lion Civilization which was constantly drowned with infighting even now when Kael had taken over a large part of the civilization.

In fact, there was still infighting among the Primordial Supporters. Even the mysterious Shadow Tyranny Coalition had infighting occurring at this very moment.

It couldn’t be helped, peace was just not in the nature of lions. If consorts were not fighting, then it would be two or more Pride Leaders, two or more Princes, two or more Kings, and so on.

Ironically, the infighting did not really make the lion civilization unstable since stability itself was not a concept that they were actually familiar with.

As long as the lions remained united in ideology and against common enemies, these common infighting did nothing but keep them sharp and ready for action.

Such was the normalcy of a race that built its whole foundation on being the royal bloodline of the universe.

Kael thought of choosing a deputy leader among the foxes to be a temporary regent for the Fox caste until Ivana was old enough but decided to handle it later.

He doubted the Fox caste would just descend into chaos just because they lost a leader so soon.

The All-King followed Marcus and Ralph to the chamber world for the spiders.

What Kael saw was exactly as they had described.

If Kael was shocked by what he saw, he definitely didn’t show it.

Death Essence covered his eyes, allowing him to see all the creatures that still had life present in them.

He looked around to find that there were tens of millions of spiders inside their burrows, currently in a slumbering state.

All of them were linked by the almost invisible thin white web strings that flowed out of the burrows and toward the massive cocoon at the center.

Kael laid his eyes on the cocoon, then he blinked.

Instantly, he was standing in front of the cocoon along with the other Lion King escorts with Marcus and Ralph.

Just like that.

Marcus and Ralph were shocked.

They had not even had the chance to resist before they were forcefully teleported away by Kael.

The All-King had his golden eyes set on the massive cocoon.

While others waited behind, Kael went ahead and stepped on the massive if white threads on the floor.

He could have flown over it, or he could have teleported beyond the inconvenience.

But he didn’t.

He chose to walk.

The cocoon had about one hundred meters of radius made of this web-covered ground.

The reason Kael stepped on those threads was just due to experience, something he would be able to handle without fainting.

Just as Kael thought, as soon as he stepped on the threads, his mind was barraged by images, visions, voices, and all manner of information.

Kael was...connected.

This happened even though Kael was wearing thick white boots, meaning that the power of these web strings was not based on contact but on proximity.

It was no wonder the whole thing with Ivana sensing the presence of the Phoenix had happened and Kael had been able to contact Natalia despite being on another arkship half a star system away.

This also explained why other creatures that were not spiders were falling under a trance all over the arkship.

There were levels to this.

And then, Kael raised his foot to take another step forward. The Connection had been established so it could not be disconnected so easily.

Kael continued walking. Feeling his mind being besieged from this...will.

He could sense it. A conversation was going on at the moment. A conversation between all the beings that were connected to each other.

Surprisingly, Kael could not gather heads or tails of what they were talking about. He could but it would mean he would have to lose himself to the Connection.

Kael was not going to make that chance, not unless he himself was the Connection.

Kael’s eyes, which were focused on the cocoon, grew extremely cold.

The cocoon, now ninety-plus meters away from him, shuddered.

As Kael continued walking, his golden eyes began to get drowned by the color of different images.

He couldn’t understand what they were conversing about, but he knew they were conversing about something.

Kael narrowed his eyes, trying to see if he could glean a bit into the secrets of this combined consciousness without losing himself to it.

At fifty meters, the web of strings was now so dense that Kael literally heard bangs resounding across all the parts of his mind.

He knew now.

It wasn’t his intention but the Connection itself had allowed him to see a little bit of the secrets they were talking about.

They...

Yes, they.

Natalia could no longer be referred to as a single entity anymore. She was neither she nor he, she was many and one at the same time.

Her body was now merely the medium and source of the power, her kind was fractured, spread out amongst the millions of minds connected to her.

She, no, They...knew...a lot.

They didn’t know everything, not yet. They weren’t omniscient.

But They knew a lot, and They were knowing more by the second.

That was what they were conversing about. That was the secret to their conversation.

They were trying to know more, They were trying to understand something in particular.

They didn’t know what they wanted to understand, but they knew that if they understood it, they would know it.

Kael...also wanted to understand too.

But he didn’t need to, so he discarded it.

First of all, this wasn’t ideal at all.

Even if Natalia wanted to do this, it had to be on a planet exclusive to her and in an environment that allowed her to extend her threads to every corner of the universe.

On her own, the Primordial Spider would never be able to do such a thing, but with Kael’s help with his systems, then nothing was really impossible.

Besides, Kael had personal plans and had long been waiting for a Primordial of Connection to appear.

Now that Natalia had appeared, how could he allow her to carry on as if she didn’t have a master?

Of course not.

While paying attention to the massive network of minds linked to the Connection, Kael reached the last one meter before the massive cocoon.

He looked up, his blonde hair was blown by the wind, giving him a majestic appearance.

In front of the large web cocoon, Kael’s presence was much larger and opposing.

He didn’t need to do anything, he just stood there.

His aura was so suffocating that Natalia had no choice but to forcefully cut off the Connection.

"Greetings, Your Majesty..." A monotone voice that revealed no emotion echoed from the depths of the cocoon.
