Reincarnated As A Lion In Another World-Chapter 645: The Fear That Creeps
"I am...Wei..."
The world was dark and apocalyptic; the sand had been melted to form glass, which acted as a feature of the barren desert terrain.
The sky was blank and empty like the black void.
There was just something about the way this world existed that caused chills to creep up the backs of all who were in it.
A world of eternal fright and eternal dread, a world where terror was the primal emotion, a world where fear made everything possible.
"I am the All-King’s rightful consort..."
Down the path that had been formed by the movement of multiple creatures across the barren desert, at the end of the path was a great hole.
The hole was deep and wide, like the maw of an ancient eldritch beast.
Down this great hole was the expanse of a subterranean civilization. Pillar towers spanned the cities, acting as supports to hold up the subterranean world and prevent the surface from collapsing, while also serving as habitation nodes for the inhabitants of this eerie world.
"You dare...grant me fear against my will?"
If one checked, from the start of the subterranean world, where the Great Hole had been placed, multiple structures had been badly damaged.
Many former pillars now hung from the jagged ceiling with their lower halves missing, having been bashed through by a fierce existence.
Some other pillars and smaller structures were completely gone, having lost their structure and existence to the march of a powerful force.
The footprints, humanoid and paw-like, could still be seen from where they had been imprinted, plastered on the various sides and grounds of the underground city.
There was silence as well as translator black blood seen everywhere. The silhouettes of their splashes were painted against the walls or on the ground where they had been forced to flow down the street.
This city had been the first to be hit by the group of frustrated lionesses.
It was barren, no form of life anywhere, either eaten or lying around in a strewn pile of flesh.
The sudden absence of the starry void was the first blow that struck the tyrannical visitors.
They had never intended to go on a world domination campaign on this world, their original intention had always been to find the Primordial who lived on this planet and get it over with so that they could finally be on the ranking board.
Only for them to find out at some point that the stars were missing and they also lost access to the Lion System chats.
Their arkships or super cruiser shuttles which had been parked above the orbit of the planet were also gone.
It was like they had entered the confines of a shadow shroud.
Many had tried to fly back up, those who could, to see what was going on.
Unlike what many would have assumed that there was a literal blanket covering the planet, this was not the case.
If it were a shadow blanket covering the whole planet, that would be a better scenario.
At least, they would know that all they had to do was pierce the veil and they would be able to escape to contact the others in heaven.
However, those who flew up to check discovered that the dark shadowy sky was unending and seemingly infinite. It was just like the mortalverse, except there were no stars at all.
Just a chilling darkness that caused their spines to tingle. It was as though they and the planet had been thrown into a living abyss and everywhere they turned was an invisible abyssal eye staring back at them.
Frustrated and indignant, the lionesses descended back to the barren planet and began a rampage.
They dove into the grounds, their powerful bodies piercing through the ceilings and pillars of these subterranean cities and tearing them apart from the inside.
They moved like a cornered beast that had been allowed some free room to move. They had been competitors against each other, but now that they were all trapped, their cooperative lioness instincts came to light.
They moved in groups, never moving as one.
Snakes, worms, centipedes, the apex inhabitants of this barren world, they didn’t have any means to fight back.
It was brutal.
The weakest among the lionesses were tier 4 and the strongest were tier 5. And there happened to be thousands of them.
One by one, subterranean cities were forced to crumble to their knees, and the inhabitants were slaughtered like worthless munchkins.
The more the lionesses grew frustrated, the more carnage they were willing to enact on the whole world.
They weren’t just slaughtering for the sake of it though, they still searched for the Primordial, even though they didn’t know what or who it would be.
They hoped that the Primordial existed here, they hoped that they would find it, and they hoped that the Primordial was the one responsible for this.
And if it was so, then there was a solution to their problem, they would be able to go home.
But no matter how far they entrenched themselves into the earthen cities of this poor world, they didn’t find anything.
What they didn’t know was that all that happened was a carefully constructed scenario designed to harvest something that had been in abundance on the planet.
Fear.
As the lionesses bashed their way from one city to another, they threw the inhabitants into a state of constant fear.
Word quickly spread around the globe that fiendish lionesses had come from the depths of Hellish Heaven to punish and make them suffer.
The snakes, worms, and centipedes were constantly trying to flee in fear even though they knew that they outnumbered the lionesses one hundred to one or more.
The lionesses were also starting to develop fear for different reasons. They dreaded the power that was capable of keeping all of them here, they dreaded the idea of never being able to return, they dreaded the idea of having to spend the rest of their short lives in this place.
These fears were never supposed to leave the confines of their minds even though they acknowledged it. Lions and Lionesses were not known to openly show signs of fear even though they knew it was inside them.
Fear was weakness after all.
But in this world, on this barren planet, in whatever god-forsaken realm the whole planet had been thrust into, fear was amplified.
And the more amplified it was, the more the lionesses struggled to keep it to themselves.
Fear begets fear.
As it was said many times, fear was highly contagious.
With one or more individuals afraid and nothing available to ease that anxiety, that fear was very likely to spread to others who didn’t even feel fear in the first place.
It was a cycle, the lionesses who were scared were now infecting the inhabitants of the world with their actions. And the inhabitants of the world were subtly amplifying the fear by seemingly being helpless.
It wasn’t as if no one fought back, they did. But the inhabitants usually fought in small numbers and the lionesses fought as a small army without a commander.
The only things guiding them to maintain their union were their fear, their instincts, and a desire to find a way out of here.
And so they searched as they became more and more infected with the atmosphere of fear in the world.
Months passed by. Without a daystar or the in-built clock of their system, they had to employ other methods of telling the time.
But with the passage of time came many changes.
The lionesses who had once been masters of suppressing their fear had now become anxious felines that would jump at the slightest noise.
The fear sensitivity had been cranked up to the highest meter and it didn’t look like it was going to go down anytime soon.
Many still tried their best to be conscious of what was happening. They tried to keep their fears hidden, but it was getting harder by the day.
What was even worse was that many kike Wei had noticed that their numbers were reducing fast in the last month.
And it was getting easier for them to get lost on the planet even though they usually knew where they were going.
What was happening to them?
"I...am Wei..."
It was on this day that the lionesses had briefly been blessed with the presence of the cause of all these problems.
The master behind all their suffering, frustration, and fear.
"I...am Wei!..."
It was a brief encounter but it had shaken the bones of all who saw it.
A Primordial, they were certain, it had to be. How could any other creature hold such power?
It had been feeding on them, on their fear.
Getting stronger from the shadows, it had watched them rain carnage on its world. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
And now, it was time for the harvest.
"I AM WEI!"
Unfortunately, even with a clear enemy in sight, and their continued resistance, the situation was looking very bleak for the remaining lionesses.
Hope wasn’t just lost, it was drained away completely to make room for the Lord of Terror, the master of Horror Heaven, the Primordial of Fear.
