Reincarnated As A Lion In Another World-Chapter 654: Just A Friend
"Haven’t you tried this before?" The tall humanoid lion asked as he observed what Memphis was doing.
The space distorted at an atomic level just above the surface of his skin, signifying that he was a lion king with the Space Lionheart.
From the heavy aura being emitted from his body, it was safe to guess that this Lion King was also tier 7.
In front of him was his long-time friend, Memphis, who held a miniature-sized Time Shuttle at the center of her palms as she hovered at the center of her mountain peak.
"Yes, but I haven’t tried it with him," Memphis said blandly.
Hearing this, the tier 7 space lion just frowned and didn’t say anything. He didn’t wish to speak out his thoughts, not now.
He was merely twenty thousand years old. Compared to Memphis who was more than a hundred and twenty years old, he was still somewhat young.
Memphis had used mysterious means to slow down her life and live past the natural lifespan of tier 7 entities.
For this, almost every other tier 7 entity was jealous. A longer lifespan meant that Memphis had a much higher chance of entering the immortal tier.
It wasn’t a guarantee, but it was definitely an increase in the probability of it happening.
But beyond all that, Memphis was an introverted, super-powerful lioness who was neither a Lion Queen nor a consort of any powerful lion.
She was alone.
She was unconquered.
And this was very attractive to the other powerful lions.
The desire to conquer someone so powerful had always been in their hearts.
The fact that she had chosen to remain single seems to unnerve the males. It made them instinctively see it as a challenge to prove that they can be the ones to crack Memphis and bring her out of her shell.
Many of her so-called Tier 7 friends fell into this category. They were simply friends because they could maintain the possibility of bedding Memphis one day.
One could only imagine the secret dismay they all felt when they found Memphis to be getting uncomfortably close to the All-King.
What greater conflict of interest could exist other than this?
They were loyal to the All-King for different reasons, but many of them still held hope of being the one to take Memphis for themselves.
It wasn’t because they loved Memphis or because they were secretly her admirers. It was just their nature to try to conquer something that had been untouched for so long.
Could the All-King be their competitors? Would it even be a competition?
This space lion King who was allegedly one of Memphis’s friends was one of them. He secretly held desires to acquire Memphis for himself, and he had even made his intentions clear thousands of years ago.
Unfortunately for him, Memphis had declined, leading to an awkward state of their friendship that had to be put on hold for centuries before it recovered.
Since then, this friend of hers has not spoken of his intentions anymore and just maintained the friendship while keeping the desire hidden.
There were many like him but he was the only one who lacked the emotional capacity to understand that Memphis didn’t really want him around.
It would be a lie if Memphis said she didn’t know about these things. After all, she was older than most of them and could easily recognize the patterns of the games they were playing.
She had set boundaries for herself many times, warning consistently about anyone visiting her continent unannounced.
But most of her suitors were tier 7, just like her. Even if she was a tier 7 time lioness, there was a limit to what she could do to them.
With lions, anything could easily lead to unnecessary aggression and hostility if not handled properly. They weren’t afraid of conflict for the most pointless reason.
Many didn’t even have a reason for the various conflicts they were currently involved in.
The best way Memphis could just ignore these things was if she kept them at arm’s length as ’friends’.
But even these friendships were usually treading on risky grounds.
Normally, males cannot be ’Just Friends’ with a female.
If a male was claiming to be friends with another female, it was usually a case where he was planning on having sex with her or he just saw her as a business partner or professional asset, it was hardly the case for a male to see a female as just friends.
This was a universal rule that applied to all races down to humans.
It wasn’t that males couldn’t be genuinely friends with females, it was just that it was statistically less likely to happen.
Memphis knew that most of her so-called male friends held desires to fuck her. That was the simple truth.
Then some saw her as an ally that they could rely on in times of need.
The space lion King with her was part of the first set.
Hearing Memphis talk about the All-King, he just kept his thoughts to himself.
Was he jealous?
Yes, very much.
Could he do anything about it?
Well, he could try.
But doing anything that the system would consider antagonistic to the All-King would instantly label him as a traitor or a sinner.
He didn’t want that.
He could only hope that the All-King would reject Memphis.
After all, it seems like the All-King was more interested in the participants of the Consort Trial.
But if Memphis succeeded in being the first to reach the Immortal tier, that could change many things.
Thinking about this, the Lion King’s expressionless face revealed some conflict.
"Have you made all the preparations?" He asked.
"Same as before," Memphis answered without even looking at him.
The lion king sighed.
Memphis, floating with her feet a few inches off the ground, waved her hand in front of her, sending the miniature time shuttle away from her.
The time shuttle shot out of her hand in the form of a black stream of light that gradually expanded until it assumed its original size which was about one kilometer long.
At this time, both Memphis and her supposed friend raised their heads up to the golden sky as their senses picked up something coming.
A large object had just crossed the horizon of the continent’s edge and was still moving towards them.
The space lion King shook his head slightly, "You really called him to come," He muttered.
Memphis did not answer him. Her mind was focused on the incoming arkship as she wore a small smile on the edges of her lips.
The arkship, which was a bit random in terms of design so as not to stand out too much, stopped in front of the central mountain of Memphis’s continent.
It was parked on the airfield on the east side while the black time shuttle was parked on the west side.
Soon after, the hatch of this arkship opened and a golden blur immediately zoomed out of the hatch opening.
Kael appeared in front of Memphis in a burst of golden light and wind, wearing a calm and indifferent expression on his face.
"I didn’t expect you to be planning an evolution at this point," was the first thing Kael said as he laid eyes on Memphis’s green gaze.
Memphis shrugged, "What were you expecting? That I would participate in the trial?"
"Hmmm," Kael narrowed his eyes.
Memphis chuckled, "Trust me, finding a Primordial is not hard for me. I could always rush to the Horse Federation to kidnap one Primordial or the other.
However, the chances of success for something like that are very low with just me..."
"You could have mobilized a force if you wanted, you’re stalking," Kael said authoritatively, "Or you just aren’t interested in being my consort."
He was very direct and didn’t bother mincing his words.
Memphis visibly flinched before shifting her eyes slightly. She was thinking about her so-called male friend who was standing not too far from them.
Kael and Memphis were talking openly with their mouths so this space lion King could hear everything they were saying.
Kael didn’t care about anything though, he kept his eyes on Memphis, completely disregarding the existence of that tier 7 lion king.
"Well...you..." Memphis stammered, to the shock and hellish dismay of the poor Lion King.
Was this super-powerful, ancient lioness actually stammering?
"How do you plan on breaking through?" Kael asked and changed the topic. His apparent indifference to her reaction as well as his iron-clad calmness only caused Memphis to start running different scenarios in her mind.
"Well," She began, "You promised to help me evolve to the immortal tier if I joined you. I don’t know how far you’ve gone in trying fulfil that promise.
But I was thinking of trying again and I wondered if you could just assist. That way, you would technically be fulfilling your promise."
Kael narrowed his eyes, "I see," He said. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
It seemed Memphis actually assumed that Kael was bent on fulfilling that promise...
Little did she know...
"How do you want me to assist?" Kael asked. Since he was here, he would want to hear out every detail.
Memphis beamed, Kael did not reject.
"First of all," She gestured to the Time Shuttle, "Both of us will be travelling back in time."
