Chapter 697: Chapter 697: Apex

Some things that were meant to happen were so certain that they could be seen coming miles away.

While some events were so obscure that they shocked everyone the moment they arrived.

There was news.

News that was a bit hard to digest for many.

Ibadon had refused to save Elizabeth.

This came as a shock to many.

Elizabeth was the Primordial Dragon and the Empress. Why then did he not want to save her life?

However, upon closer examination, it became clear to those familiar with the intricacies of the matter.

The lions had asked for a ransom, President Musty. This was normal.

President Musty was the source of their major problems, and he would continue to be a threat as long as he lived.

It was understandable that they would want President Musty.

Of course, the horses did not actually want President Musty to be handed over to the lions. Even if they were not exactly happy with the President, he was still their anchor.

They could only hope that Ibadon would think of a way.

Luckily for them, Ibadon had all the incentives to keep President Musty around.

One look at Ibadon’s logic and they could understand why.

In Ibadon’s eyes, President Musty was a source of power, a tool he could use to weaken the lions or even exterminate them completely.

Why would he let go of such a tool just so that he could save the empress?

There was a big distinction he made to understand what happened.

The dragons themselves were the ones who needed a Primordial. Their prosperity was tied to Elizabeth.

Ibadon on the other hand had no need for the Primordial Dragon. It wasn’t like he could use the Dragon Breath and he had a much better and advanced version for himself.

With this distinction, one could understand why Ibadan saw President Musty as being more valuable than Elizabeth.

If he eventually gave President Musty away in return for Elizabeth. All he would gain would be the Primordial Dragon.

He had literally raised the Primordial Dragon since she was born and knew that her connection and access to the Dragon Breath was powerful but not enough to help him destroy the lions.

Also,

Ibadon was a living historical relic. He was the one who initiated the second Great War with Noel and he had done that at a time when the dragons did not have any Primordial.

The lack of Primordial now still wouldn’t make much of a difference compared to last time, especially now that he knew what and what not to do.

At that time, he didn’t have a tool that could churn out reversed Conquering Essence for him. Now he did.

Basic math told him that President Musty was more likely to lead him to his goal than Empress Elizabeth.

And with that, it was decided.

Ibadon officially abandoned Elizabeth with the lions, no longer caring about her.

This was a hard blow for everyone. For the lions who had expected something slightly different, for the dragons who were loyal to Elizabeth, and for the horses who were glad that things turned out this way.

But it was not all sunshine and rainbows.

President Musty wasn’t exactly safe just because Ibadon refused to trade him.

Now that Elizabeth was no longer present, there was no one available to collect the reversed Conquering Essence.

The dragons themselves did not have the bodies to endure long exposure to raw Conquering Essence, only a Primordial could do that.

This was where the true brutality of Ibadon came to show itself.

President Musty was forced to continue producing reversed Conquering Essence.

Under Ibadon’s orders, the dragon officials, down to the ordinary dragons, were now ordered to take reversed Conquering Essence into their bodies so that they could use it to fight

Did this mean that Ibadon did not know that the reversed Conquering Essence would hurt the dragons in the long run?

Of course he did, he just did not care. As far as he was concerned, his father had once done this after Deryliq died, so he could do it too.

Although, the difference between then and now was that in this case, the morale of the dragons was extremely low and it was now common knowledge that the reversed Conquering Essence was very harmful to the body of the dragons.

But all these didn’t matter to Ibadon. He was ruthless, he was determined, and he would not stop.

The threat of oblivion had never been greater.

The dragons should technically be weaker now but they weren’t, not with Ibadon taking the reins. They also weren’t stronger.

They were now unstable.

The empire was unstable.

And they were preparing for another round of Annihilation.

Ibadon commanded with an iron fist, ready to obliterate anyone who refused to listen.

Seth and Chen had already left the scene.

The tigers had withdrawn from the frontline, leaving the battle to just the dragons, the horses, and the lions.

There was nothing they could do but wait to see who would come out victorious.

////

Kael put down the info orb as he rested his back on the chair.

He was sitting on a balcony at the middle level of a small pyramid.

He stared out into the open, watching hundreds of Forge Shuttles and Construction Shuttles fly around as they carried and fixed materials into the rising structure.

Kael wore a faint smile, blessing his visage with the eternal radiance of the golden sky.

This was his favourite spot to be these days, not because there was anything special about it. Not yet, at least.

Kael just liked to watch one of his projects get built up little by little. The super mega pyramid that was being built here was one of his less important projects.

It wouldn’t be long now before this pyramid was completed. Just like the imperial palace the Draconic Heaven, this pyramid would be his center of command.

To watch it slowly build up was very satisfying. It was unknown how long this pyramid would take to be built.

Kael had been speaking with the engineering kings who were responsible for building this pyramid.

Even those who were experts at pyramid construction couldn’t estimate the time it would take to complete it.

The cosmic research coalition which was slowly being dissolved as time went on and as the lions began to focus more on actual Conquering activities, was discovering new and refined methods of manufacturing and production.

The engineers wanted to add everything possible to the All-King’s pyramid since it was meant to be a center of command in the future.

That was why they didn’t know how long it would take.

N’bayé was currently with the monkeys and she was saying that they were making significant progress and it was very likely that the Primordial Monkey was about to be born soon.

Either way, there were going to be more developments in the future. This pyramid that Kael was building needed to have room for change and growth.

Exalon’s Massive Black pyramid for example, which was now owned by Fidel, his son, was impressive. Alas, the upgrades it could receive were very limited.

Its defense was so great that there was no point in changing much of its structure.

Kael wanted his pyramid to have all the advantages of flexibility and also be well defended.

It was to become an icon that everyone would know of.

It reminded him of the castle of Versailles from ancient France in his past life.

This pyramid was something like that.

As Kael intended, all the experts were rolled here to give their contributions.

Termites, Beavers, and a few ants had been brought here to show their proficiency. Although some of them came here against their will, that didn’t matter.

The presence of those foreigners caused a feeling of disgust within Kael’s belly, but he had to endure it. He wanted the best so he was willing to tolerate it in the meantime.

As Kael sat there on the balcony, watching his pyramid being built, he thought of a name for it.

Almost every pyramid built by the kings, princes, or lords had a name.

The first Pyramid Kael had was the one he found in Eridoria, left there by Aziza, the last son of Noel.

The news of that particular pyramid was the Iron Blood pyramid and Kale guessed that it was named that way because of the colour scheme.

Exalon’s pyramid was called the Massive Black because...well...it was black, and it was massive. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

This pyramid that Kael was building was incorporating many things into it and he intended for it to be the best among the best of Pyramids.

That was why it had to be built in the biggest artificial continent in the whole Leonine Heaven.

That was why so many creatures were mobilised.

The pyramid was meant to be the best, the highest, it should serve as the apex infrastructure of the lion civilization.

’Apex...’ Kael suddenly paused his thoughts.

That was a perfect name, he thought to himself.

Apex Pyramid.

Kael smiled, once again satisfied with himself. A befitting name for the pyramid belonging to the All-King of the lion race.

"Another one has been caught, Your Majesty," A telepathic voice suddenly reached Kael’s mind, causing the smile on his face to freeze.
