Chapter 50: Talented Dual Affinity Mage

The first person to get onto the stage was someone quite unfamiliar to Ezekiel. This made sense, he had barely made an effort to socialize once he got admitted after all.

Why would he, a reincarnator with the mental age of about 40 years old, bother to reduce his brain cells just to chat with the highly arrogant bunch that believed themselves to be the main character simply because they had managed to get admitted into the institute?

Judging by the robe the male wore, it was obvious that he was a Mage. He staggered onto the stage, looking as though he hadn’t gotten proper sleep and food for a while now.

His opponent, on the other hand, couldn’t look any more fit. A young Brawler donned in full armor that dazzled the eyes of many that focused on it. They couldn’t see the multiple runes or formations drawn on it but anyone could tell that the armor was quite useful. Well as useful as armors could be to an E rank Brawler.

The Brawler stared at the Mage with an arrogant grin that revealed his contempt for his uncivilized opponent. Yet his expression froze as he didn’t receive the expected fear when he looked into the Mage’s eyes. Just indifference.

The latter even had the mind to let out a yawn as though deeming him unworthy of his time.

Of course that was just the former’s ego speaking. Anybody could easily tell that the young Mage was quite tired. In fact, Ezekiel wouldn’t be surprised if the teenager directly dropped onto the stage’s floor and took a nap.

But his amused expression froze the moment a bell rang clearly in the ears of the spectators.

The seemingly weak and exhausted young man seemed to transform into an experienced master who had woken up from a deep slumber, his disposition changing faster than the blink of an eye.

The Brawler didn’t feel a hint of mana in that stare, yet the sheer will and confidence in that stare almost made him lose control of his bowels. But as a student who had managed to make it into the Institution, how could his mind be so weak?

The teenager quickly bit his tongue, using the pain to revitalize himself before charging forward while the phantom image of a Minotaur enveloped him. His strength seemed to increase as a result, allowing his feet smash into the stage with resounding booms as he made his way both powerfully and quickly.

The mechanic frowned as he saw this, his mind inwardly drawing a conclusion. ’C21, Minotaur’s Charge. I’m sure that if it weren’t for the materials used on that stage, it would have been shattered by now.’

What surprised him even more though, was the Mage’s calm before such a move. He didn’t seem to even register that a raging monster would soon approach him, instead his attention was placed on the flow of mana all around him before he made his move, conjuring a wave of lightning that flowed into his body, increasing his reaction speed and agility, allowing him to jump to the side and dodge the Brawler’s wild charge.

The spectators revealed a wave of shock. Such a fast casting of a spell was prodigy worthy. Because it meant that the Mage had studied the spell he had used to the point of insanity, where he didn’t even need to store it into his Spell Storage but could silently cast it instantly just based on the understanding of the spell.

The Mage, on the other hand, seemed as though he didn’t view what he had done as surprising. Instead he spun while dodging to attract mana as a soft chant rang out from his lips. By the third second, a ball of water had emerged atop his palm, floating a few 2 meters over his skin.

This made even more spectators reaffirm the fact that the Mage was a genius. After all, even if given time, most Mages didn’t have the ability to properly understand their spells. They would all bother with it for a while before focusing more on Spell Storage as it was easier.

Not to mention that the mage had dual affinities! Water and Lightning!

While the crowd watched in excitement and expectations, the Mage had already thrown the water ball at the Brawler. The latter hadn’t really expected such, as who would expect that the no 71st had actually been a genius skilled at spell theory and have the ability of near-instant casting.

So before he could react, he groaned lightly as he felt a powerful force smash into his abdomen as the water ball exploded into a torrent of water that drenched him while its force sent him flying a few steps.

"Basta-!" Before the Brawler could finish swearing, a flash of light burst into his vision. Then he was assaulted with a pain that forced out a long yell from his throat. Before he lost consciousness, he could have sworn that he smelt burnt meat.

That’s right!

The Mage had electrocuted him!

The Mana formations on his armor could have helped him if the Mage had chosen to strike directly. But even as a full armor, there had to be portions of the armor that weren’t covered, this allowed for the earlier Water Ball to drench the Brawler.

All the Mage had to do was launch another Lightning Strike that used the water to bypass the armor’s protection, allowing the arrogant Brawler to feel its might.

The moment the Brawler fell to the ground unconscious, the exhausted expression on the Mage returned before he began walking off the stage with an unsteady gait, not sparing a single glance at the fried brawler on the ground.

The students, seniors included, watched the seemingly exhausted Mage return back to the waiting lobby with surprised expressions, not having predicted that the battle would end so quickly. Inwardly, they couldn’t help but wonder how such a genius had managed to stay under the radar for the 2 months spent in the institute.

Not only was his understanding of spells quite extraordinarily high but he was a Mage with a rare dual magical affinity! How could a person like that possibly be perfectly fine with staying low-key?!

Mid-air, the holographic board conjured by mana flickered as a name rose up the ranks before finally stabilizing at the 61st rank while the rank beside the name of the former holder of the position changed to 62.

This continued until students below had their rank reduced by one.

Ezekiel smiled wryly as he watched his rank fall to the 71st. Shrugging in the face of the stares that landed on his figure, he simply smiled while interacting with the NexusHub watch to register his fight.

Luckily, although the device primarily used mana to create holographic light to interact with the students, it worked by sensing the disturbances among the holographic panel when he tapped on it instead of picking up on mana signatures like other equipment on Taia worked. Else, the mechanic would really have no choice but to report his condition to the Institute directly.

After picking his opponent, Ezekiel immediately began walking up to the open path that led to the stage, confident that his opponent would definitely choose to accept the challenge.

Edward, on the other hand, gave a surprised glance at his NexusHub as its panel materialized before him. His expression then changed to one of disdain and contempt as he immediately chose to accept the challenge posed to him.

It didn’t take long for the two to stand on opposite ends of the stage with a distance of 20 meters or so in between them.

The arrogant didn’t speak as he stood, silently staring disdainfully at Ezekiel while his lips were curled up. His expression seemed as though he were pitying the latter for having picked him as an opponent even while having easier targets.

Yet he said nothing. His run-ins with Ezekiel had taught him that he could never win against the latter in a battle of words. Else he would be left burning red with embarrassment each time he ever tried to audibly cross Ezekiel.

The moment the bell rang, Edward immediately let out a grunt as his body drooped slightly. Suddenly the lower section of his pants tore apart as his legs squirmed, releasing bone shattering sounds as they reshaped themselves to transform into a digitigrade form with his hair transforming into long pin-like fur that coated the entire area while his toenails elongated into claws that scraped against the stage.

His arms also expanded, as though adding an extra layer of internal muscles while pin-like fur also grew, though not as much as his feet. His fingernails witnessed a change as well, changing into 3-inch long claws that gleamed dangerously under the sunlight.

A snarl left Edward’s lips as he took a step forward, his body quickly assuming a battle stance. "You’re going to regret your choice, peasant."

Before such a transformation, instead of displaying fear, Ezekiel merely chuckled while lightly stretching. "Hehe. This is gonna be fun."
