Reincarnated into a Doomed Novel as an Unknown Extra-Chapter 66: Monsters Waves [3]
*Clang! Cling!*
I parried a spear thrust, then with a swift move I slashed through the horse armor, cutting the horse’s head and the spear monster in half.
Gasping for breath, my eyes landed on the timer in the sky.
[2:46]
*Crack!*
I heard a cracking sound behind my ear. Turning my head, I saw Yamato cutting an arrow that almost reached me in half before returning to master Kai’s hand.
A chill ran down my spine as I realized how close I was to getting injured.
I shook my head and focused on a sword monster that was close to me.
’Shit! Everything happened so fast.’
In only 5 minutes, the monsters broke the wall and the barrier, entering the stronghold with all their might.
What allowed them to do this were 3 things.
The first was their numerous numbers. Unlike the first 2 waves, their numbers were probably close to double!
The second was their powers. They didn’t only have various types of weapons and higher intelligence, allowing them to block, dodge, and attack efficiently, but they were also tier 2 monsters.
Some of them had mana cores, some had aura cores, some had none, and some had both.
And I had learnt the hard way that the mana attacks could harm my soul on its spectral form significantly when I fought the golden knight, so I couldn’t just stay spectral against them.
The third thing was that the first two waves — despite being easy — drained not only our mental power, but also some resources like the arrows, spears and traps, leaving us without much defense.
Eventually, we had to fight them face to face.
*Scratch!*
A monster swung its sword with green flames covering it. It scratched my back, but immediately, my soul left out my body and shattered the monster’s head with its claws.
The next moment, I saw an arrow heading toward me.
I used my boots to teleport above the archer, then with my leg covered in cold flames, I smashed the archer’s head, breaking it like an ice cube.
I fell on its horse and used my gloves’ tentacles covered in fire to freeze it until it fell lifelessly on the ground.
I kept fighting and fighting, killing everything that got close to me, with countless screens appearing in my sight with every kill.
"Only 30 seconds! Just endure for a little more!" Alden shouted as he blocked a sword with his shield.
Teleporting to him and enduring the urge to puke, I cut the monster in half, both green and blue flames covering its corpse.
The horse raised its front legs to stomp on me, but Alden crushed its back legs with his hammer, making it fall on the ground.
Seizing the opportunity, I kicked its head multiple times until it turned into pieces of black ice.
"3 seconds! 2 seconds! One!"
*Thud!*
I sighed in relief as the timer hit 0.
All the monsters fell dead with their souls hovering above their bodies.
"Get as many cores as possible, we don’t have much time!" Master Kai shouted loudly as he began to harvest the cores.
Immediately, I started doing the same.
’Maybe someone can finally break through with all these cores.’
"YAMI! YOUR BACK!" Lily shouted suddenly with visible panic in her voice.
I looked at her with confusion. "What’s wron—!"
*SLASH!*
.....
’Huh...?’
The world suddenly fell into silence.
My head moved against my will, my eyes lingered on an unusual sight.
A headless boy, wearing a black kimono with blood flowing out of his headless neck. Many black threads came out of it, connecting me with that body.
A green sword covered in blood was still in the air beside it. Holding the sword was a dead monster without any soul inside of it.
Seeing the boy’s clothes, gloves, boots, and sword, I recognized him.
’That’s... me? But I’m here... how...?’
*THUD!*
As both the body and I fell on the ground and my vision started to darken — the realization of my situation hit me.
’I’m... dead?’
•••••
"..."
I stared silently at the screen as the corpse that Cecil put on the ground moved.
Without wasting time, it took a sword from the ground and cut Yami’s head.
"I... have lost."
Out of all the people, he targeted Yami and killed him in front of everyone.
Seeing the boy that I watched for almost a year falling lifelessly on the ground filled me with many emotions.
I felt sadness, grief, pity, and sorrow toward Yami. But when I looked at Cecil, anger and hatred threatened to come out.
He suddenly switched places with the corpse, shocking everyone that saw it.
He looked at Yami’s corpse with a wide grin. "Sorry kid. You were just too dangerous to us."
Kaito stared at him with red eyes. He unsheathed his sword and covered it in flames, ready to strike Cecil at the moment.
But suddenly, a confused expression appeared on both him and Cecil.
My eyes widened as I realized: "Cecil didn’t leave. No green moon happened..."
All of a sudden, Kaito smirked while stabbing his sword on the ground. A pillar of ethereal blue flames erupted under Cecil foot and covered him in fire.
"Damn!" Cursing loudly, Cecil suddenly got replaced with another corpse.
Immediately, I scanned the floating island searching for him.
He was at the far corner of the island, rolling on the ground without screaming.
Eventually, the fire stopped, revealing the burned body of Cecil.
He didn’t have a skin, only burned flesh with many parts on his body showing his bones.
"Ouch... good thing I have an emergency plan."
He pierced his chest with his hand, taking out a green crystal from behind his heart.
"ROAAAAR!"
Long Wei charged toward him roaring, making Cecil’s body shake as if on the verge of shattering.
But he was too late.
The crystal shattered under Cecil’s aura. A green cloud came out of it and covered the entire island.
Out of nowhere, a green moon appeared in the sky, turning the red sky into corrupted green.
And Cecil?
He laughed manically, the sound of his laugh had lingered in my watching room before he finally disappeared.
*BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM!*
The sound of loud steps rang in the place. Legions of full armored knights above horses came out of the portals.
Green flames covered their bodies entirely as the horses stomped on the snow.
In the middle of the air, under the green moon, the timer began to work, showing a number that filled me with despair.
