Chapter 186: Chapter 186

We are suddenly all quite aware of the situation we are in, because beyond Camillo who is under mother’s care, heavily wounded, none of us even moved an inch, the tension growing between us as we wait for the beast to act, the only one completely at ease, totally disregarding the state he left the Demon Lord at, a fate far worse than death for sure, to be rendered completely hollow and weak, so meek that all his enemies would gladly take advantage of his current state to punish him further, and by the looks of it not even scream he was able to anymore.

And yet as crazy as things go sometimes I did not expect the next events, and even the beast turn to look when we hear heavy footsteps descending the many stairs that lead to this place.

Each step is more deafening than the other, and I hold my breath once it gets close to the end of it, just around the corner from us.

But what I see makes me frown, only to sigh next.

"Hey now you all started the party without me? How inconsiderable of you." She says, dragging her r’s, her wavy hair reflecting red for a second, her build changed and more accepting of her new conditions, the one horn very vibrant against the pale face and mostly raven black hair.

"Ladies." I say to Natasha and Leah, not knowing who is in charge now or if there is even a difference at this point, not much knowledge in souls sharing body subject, quickly looking in her direction and seeing her battered bloody body, but by the victorious smile and the double edge axe dripping blood in her hands I guess none of it it’s hers.

"Just settling things down around here, nothing much." I would beg to differ that is nothing much, but still.

Her smile drops to a surprised expression, however, once she sees the beast, a second apart from her laughing out loud, showing teeth and part of the palate as she throws her head back.

"I... why... excuse me?" I second Ethan words, what the hell is going on?

"N-no way, Irditix, you old cow, you are still alive as well? Is me, Natasha, old pal."

I can see the surprise in the ox tiger’s expression, those big eyes and thick eyebrows are great for widening his looks, but they make it clear too when he frowns and a snarl starts forming.

"Ah, yes, Natasha, how long has it been indeed, far too long isn’t it? Far. Too. Long... And here I thought, for a second, for a split, tiny second, that after all this time my best friend, my long lost master, had come to free me at last, when you did not even know that I was alive here?" I can hear the level of anger increasing with each word of his speech. "And yet here you are, after all these years, alive and well, Natasha, and while I was caged up and abused and used as a blood bag by that fiend over there you were walking around free? Out on a vacation, enjoying your freedom?"

At that point I noticed something was off.

"No, that’s not it, I was not free either, I-"

"Silence! I don’t want to hear your excuses! I-"

There was something wrong indeed... but not with the conversation or its members, but with the hollow vessel left forgotten on the ground.

"Watch out!" I barely have time to scream out a warning before I hear the husk whisper the following words, the dry lips almost letting nothing out:

"Oblivion."

At that the Demon Lord manages to give one last vicious smirk before his body starts to disintegrate, crackling up and turning into ash, but instead of being carried by the wind and scattered around the ashes actually turn black and start condensing, swirling around and above as if many serpents wriggled up and start joining into a ball of black void, like a nest of snakes pulsating and growing. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

All step back and watch in horror as his last powerful spell unfolds, with no time to react beyond that, and we all could feel the power emanating from that black void, a sacrificial spell that should not be fooled around with.

At that second we all realized at the same time that we were all going to die here and there, and the last mischievous attack from the Demon Lord would succeed in ripping his enemies apart and taking us with him.

There was no time to think or run, and there was no price too high to pay for our survival, so I do the only thing that I can think of that would match this much power with a spell on my own, only that this one, one of the secretive especial ones from the book, one that I learned just in case as the last resource, would cost me greatly too.

"Glass Heart, the Frostbound Sacrifice."

Quickly as it comes a diamond shape thick ice projection starts forming midair, like snowflakes but bigger, and the numerous ice shields all grow at rapid speed at the same time that my magic surrounds the ball of thick tar, locking it in place while the shields chain with one another and border his last attack, soon followed by diamond chains that twist and turn and tight up around the shield already created and tighten the grip of the diamond projections even further, the power emanating from it is surreal.

As well as the price being paid for it.

I can feel it draining the moment the explosion we have been waiting for goes off, and with all my strength I push it down and keep it contained, the diamond shaped shield forming a ball around the attack and containing the liquid darkness as, like a wild beast, it tries to go out of its confinement, hissing and bubbling up.

And with the rattling of the chains against such excruciating force, my stretched out arm starts freezing up and robbing me of my extremities feeling, shooting out waves of pain along my body and turning my pale skin blue.

For this is the side effect of risking up my own levels to keep the spell up.

It is panic inducing seeing the numbers that I worked so hard for go down as much as seeing the ice going up my arm, side effects from unnaturally and forcibly lowering my body defenses down, my own spells and powers becoming too much to be contained.

I can hear screams and my name being shouted above all the chaos, but I can’t do much else beyond keeping the spell up and enduring the biting cold pain sweeping all over my limbs, the diamond shaped shield trembling and shattering as the chains hold them in place like a hot balloon expanding non stop, pushing further and further and further, the forced of the explosion pushing against my magic with all their might.

There are already small openings appearing, and cracks all over the shield, and even the chains are starting to bend and twist, their rings losing their round shape and being pulled to their limits.

Then, and only then, when my spell is about to crack, and my defenses almost proved not to be enough, when the last attack starts giving in and the ball of oblivion corruption vanishes, and only when there is only air and no pressure pushing out that I drop my spell.

And with it I fell down as well, passing out from the extreme extortion, unsure what would happen to us and unable to do much more than give Ethan one last look before closing my eyes in a deep sleep, my body heavy and shocked and numbly cold.
