Chapter 47: Chapter 47 – Adam Shadowend vs Kael Duskrin (Part 1)

Adam walked at a slow pace toward the center of the arena, keeping his eyes on his opponent at all times as he did the same from the opposite side, both of them completely ignoring Director Acelina as she introduced the seventh match of the day.

Kael Duskrin was several centimeters taller than him, with an athletic build. He had short black hair and cold gray eyes that showed neither nervousness nor emotion. Only absolute focus.

And something else that Adam felt the moment he reached the center of the field—a visceral sensation that made his skin prickle and his pulse quicken instinctively.

Killing intent.

It wasn’t normal hostility or simple competitiveness. It was the pure, raw sensation of someone who genuinely wanted to end your life, who saw your death as the only acceptable outcome of this encounter.

And the most disturbing part was that Adam recognized that feeling because he himself was radiating it toward Kael.

The professors sensed the shift in the atmosphere immediately. Brenna Ironvale stood up in her box with a serious expression.

Cedric Haldren adjusted his glasses while frowning. Aldwin Vane crossed his arms, visible tension in his shoulders; the only one detached from all of this was Dorian, who simply limited himself to observing and waiting for whatever result might come.

Director Acelina felt it as well, her expression turning completely serious as she looked at both combatants.

Some students in the stands—the strongest among them—felt that pressure too and fell into absolute silence.

All of them instinctively knowing one thing: someone would die in this match.

"Begin," Acelina ordered in a cold, serious tone.

Adam didn’t even have time to take a single step before Kael disappeared from his sight.

Everything seemed to move in slow motion when he felt a brutal impact against his stomach, Kael’s fist driving deep into him as the air was violently expelled from his lungs. His mouth opened automatically, spitting out a large amount of blood, while his eyes widened from the sharp pain that shot through his entire torso.

Kael kept his fist embedded in his stomach for one second longer, his cold eyes staring directly into Adam’s.

Then Adam was sent flying backward at tremendous speed, only to crash against the coliseum wall with a dull sound that echoed throughout the entire place. The stone cracked behind him, forming a small crater where his body remained lodged.

"Shit!" Piers exclaimed from the stands in horror.

"Adam...?" Evelyne murmured with overwhelming concern.

The director raised her hand, clearly about to stop the match.

But then Adam moved.

His fingers dug into the cracked stone as he pushed his body forward, falling to his knees on the battlefield floor before spitting out a worrying amount of blood. He kept his head lowered for several seconds, his breathing heavy and uneven.

Then he muttered something that no one beyond Kael could hear.

"Finally..."

He slowly lifted his head, blood running from his mouth and staining his teeth as a smile forced by pain formed on his face. His black eyes gleamed with excitement.

"Finally a real fight..."

Kael raised an eyebrow slightly at that, but said nothing, simply returning to his guard once more.

Adam stood up with movements that probably should have been more unsteady considering the blow he had just taken, yet he kept his balance perfectly as he raised his sword with one hand.

Then he lunged forward.

Not with caution, nor with any defensive strategy.

Only with pure aggression.

His sword came down in a horizontal arc aimed directly at Kael’s neck, who blocked the attack with his own weapon, the sound of metal clashing ringing out violently.

Adam didn’t retreat. Instead, he pushed harder against Kael’s blade while simultaneously driving a knee toward his ribs.

Kael twisted his body, dodging the knee before counterattacking with an upward slash that Adam blocked with the edge of his sword, sparks flying between both weapons.

But Kael didn’t stop there.

He released one hand from his sword and landed a direct punch to Adam’s face that snapped his head to the side violently. Blood flew from his mouth as he staggered back a step from the impact.

Adam spat blood onto the ground before wiping his mouth with the back of his free hand, the wild smile on his face never fading.

"That was good."

He lunged forward again, this time with a brutal combination: a high sword slash followed immediately by a left hook when Kael blocked the first attack.

The punch connected against Kael’s jaw, forcing him to step back for the first time since the match had begun.

Kael’s eyes focused completely on Adam with genuine interest.

"Not bad," he muttered.

He countered with a series of rapid thrusts that Adam blocked or dodged by mere millimeters, each attack passing dangerously close to cutting him severely.

When one of the slashes finally connected against his left arm, opening a wound that began bleeding immediately, Adam simply ignored the pain and countered with a brutal elbow that struck Kael’s cheekbone.

The sound of bone against bone rang out audibly.

Kael stepped back, wiping the blood that began to flow from his split eyebrow, a small smile finally appearing on his normally expressionless face.

"Interesting."

What followed was absolute, unrestrained violence.

Both abandoned any pretense of clean combat or refined technique. It was pure aggression, blows exchanged without concern for self-defense.

Adam landed a slash that opened Kael’s shoulder.

Kael responded with a thrust that superficially pierced Adam’s side.

Both ignored their wounds and kept attacking.

Their swords clashed constantly while they simultaneously threw punches, elbows, knees—anything they could use to inflict damage.

Blood began to pool beneath their feet, mixing together and forming puddles as both fighters wounded each other without mercy.

Adam blocked a sword strike before completely releasing his weapon and grabbing Kael by the neck with both hands, slamming his forehead against Kael’s in a brutal headbutt that left both of them stunned.

Kael responded by dropping his own sword and landing a series of direct blows to Adam’s torso that forced him back, spitting more blood.

But Adam just laughed.

He laughed like a complete maniac as he wiped the blood from his mouth and launched himself forward again, using martial arts techniques from his previous world.

A palm strike to the sternum that forced Kael to step back, gasping.

A spinning kick that connected against his ribs with the sound of something cracking.

Kael countered with a hook that landed perfectly against Adam’s face, sending blood flying from his now clearly broken nose.

Adam spat blood, and one of his teeth fell to the ground.

And he kept smiling.

"More!" he shouted as he lunged again, his vision stained red by the blood running from a wound on his forehead, but not caring in the slightest.

Kael met him halfway, both colliding at the center with brute force as they exchanged blows so quickly it was difficult to follow them individually.

Fist against face.

Elbow against ribs.

Knee against abdomen. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Again and again without stopping, without yielding, without even considering the possibility of stopping.

The spectators were in complete silence, some with expressions of horror and others captivated by the pure brutality they were witnessing.

"This is... this is insane," Piers murmured, unable to look away.

Evelyne covered her mouth with both hands, unable to say anything as she watched Adam fight as if his life depended on it.

Director Acelina observed everything with a completely serious expression, ready to intervene at any moment, but also recognizing that both combatants were perfectly matched despite the brutality.

Adam landed an uppercut that lifted Kael off the ground momentarily.

He landed and countered with a direct blow to Adam’s liver that made him double over in pain.

But Adam used that momentum to land an upward elbow that struck beneath Kael’s jaw, forcing him to stagger back.

Both remained standing there for a few seconds, breathing heavily as blood dripped from multiple wounds across their bodies.

Then Adam spoke, his voice hoarse but filled with genuine excitement.

"You’re strong. Really strong."

Kael looked at him for a moment before responding in an equally hoarse voice.

"You too. I didn’t expect to find someone like you here."

Both smiled simultaneously.

And they lunged at each other again with renewed violence.
