Remarriage Failed Again Today-Chapter 44: I Just Hate Her Mistress Look
That’s right. This was Leona Grant’s own sister, Ashley Grant, the same age as Ryan, who had been living abroad for years.
Annabelle Linton and Ashley Grant were very close. When Annabelle was studying abroad for college, the two of them often spent time together.
"Ashley."
Ashley casually tossed her bag onto the sofa. Though she was complaining, she affectionately linked her arm through Annabelle Linton’s. "I was waiting for you for so long today. I was starting to think you weren’t coming."
Annabelle chuckled. "Well, I’m here now, aren’t I?"
Ashley’s gaze swept over the table, landing on the gift boxes. "Where’d all these presents come from? Is there one for me?"
"Yes," Vivian Yates cut in before Annabelle Linton could speak.
Ashley glanced at Vivian Yates, a cold, disdainful glint flashing in her eyes.
Vivian Yates took out the gift she had prepared for Ashley. Unwrapping it, she said in a friendly tone, "Ashley, I wasn’t sure what you like, and since you’re still a student, I thought this might help with your studies. So I got you this. I hope you’ll like it."
Ashley shot it a cool glance. It was a limited-edition electronic learning device.
Instantly, her expression darkened.
"What is the meaning of this?"
"Huh?" Vivian Yates was confused by Ashley’s abrupt change in demeanor.
"Study, study, study! It’s all about studying, all day long! Will you people ever give it a rest? Are you trying to drive me insane?!"
Ashley had a fiery temper and hated studying. In fact, she was the real reason Leona’s parents had returned to the country.
Ashley no longer wanted to study abroad. She had been hanging out with a bad crowd there, and Leona’s parents, afraid she would be led astray, planned to have her come home to finish her schooling.
So, naturally, the sight of an electronic learning device made her blood boil.
Vivian looked utterly bewildered. "Ashley, what’s wrong...? Don’t you like my gift?"
Ashley sneered. "Who gave you the right to call me Ashley? Are we that close? So what if I’m a bad student? So what if I hate studying? Did you have to put on this ’it’s for your own good’ act in front of everyone just to embarrass me?"
Ashley and Vivian had never gotten along, not even as children. Just the sight of Vivian was enough to make her angry for no reason at all.
Now, she had to admit she was deliberately picking a fight. ’So what? The moment I see her, I just get the urge to start something.’
"Ashley, what kind of attitude is that!" Leona Grant scolded, his expression grim. "She bought you a gift out of the kindness of her heart. Even if you don’t like it, you don’t need to trample all over her good intentions! Is this how the Grant family raised you?!"
Ashley shot back, not to be outdone, "Did I ask her to get me a gift? Are we even close? I’ll be honest with you, I can’t stand her. She has the face of a homewrecker! You’re already married to Annabelle, but she’s still all over you. Does she have no shame at all?"
Annabelle Linton glanced at Leona Grant’s thunderous expression and sneered inwardly.
’Whenever it came to Vivian Yates, Leona would always take her side, regardless of the person or the place.’
’It was true then, and it’s true now.’
Vivian bit her lip, looking aggrieved. "Ashley, I didn’t know this would happen," she said sadly. "I never meant to embarrass you. I honestly just wanted to buy you a gift..."
Ashley hated that look of hers, the one that made it seem like the whole world had wronged her. "Hah," she retorted sarcastically. "Like anyone knows what you were really thinking."
Hearing this, Leona furiously commanded, "Ashley, apologize!"
"I won’t!"
The atmosphere instantly dropped to a freezing point. No one knew what to do.
