Remarriage Failed Again Today-Chapter 46: A Child Will Come Sooner or Later
A cold glint flashed in Vivian Yates’s eyes. ’This woman actually set me up!’
If she left now, she would look petty.
But if she stayed, she was afraid something would go wrong.
’A moment of impatience can ruin a great plan.’
After careful consideration, she finally said with a smile, "It’s fine. I’m not angry."
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
At that moment, Annabelle Linton opportunely presented her gift for Ashley Grant—a stylish white watch.
Ashley Grant had been a mischievous child. At the age of twelve, she had fallen into a water vat and gotten a scar on her wrist, which was why she always wore a watch to cover it.
Her face instantly lit up with a wide smile when she saw the watch. "I knew my sister-in-law loves me best!"
Annabelle Linton smiled and patted her on the head. With the conflict resolved, the family went to dinner in a more relaxed mood.
Vivian Yates watched the smile playing on Annabelle Linton’s lips, and a venomous look flashed in her eyes.
The Grant family ate at a round table, so there was no strict seating arrangement; everyone simply sat where they pleased.
The atmosphere at the table was neither cold nor boisterous, but it was warm and comfortable.
Leona Grant and his father were quiet men who didn’t say much, so the conversation naturally centered around Annabelle Linton.
The old patriarch would occasionally ask a few medical questions, and Mrs. Grant would bring up some family matters. Annabelle Linton, a faint smile on her face, answered them all gracefully.
In the middle of the conversation, the old patriarch glanced at Vivian Yates, who was sitting next to Leona Grant. A cunning glint flickered in his shrewd eyes.
"Leona, you and Annabelle have been married for over two years now. Why haven’t we heard any news yet? Are you two worried it’ll be too much trouble to raise a child?"
Having been addressed directly, Leona Grant could no longer remain silent. He said flatly, "Grandpa, we’re still young. We’ll have children eventually. You don’t need to worry."
The old patriarch was not pleased to hear this. "I’ve already got one foot in the grave, how can I not be anxious? Annabelle is the only granddaughter-in-law in the Grant family. If I can’t count on you two, who else can I count on?"
Hearing this, Vivian Yates’s hand tightened around her chopsticks. She was furious but didn’t dare say a word.
’How could she not know the old man was saying that specifically for her benefit?’
’Annabelle Linton is the only daughter-in-law?!’
Leona Grant’s expression remained unchanged. He said impassively, "Having a child depends on fate. It’s not something that happens just because you want it to. But we’ll do our best." 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
Annabelle Linton kept her head down, focused on her food, and said nothing.
’She and Leona Grant were about to get a divorce. A child was out of the question.’
’So, she didn’t want to—and couldn’t—make any promises to the family.’
...
That evening, Leona Grant drove Vivian Yates home. He then used working overtime as an excuse to stay the night at his office.
When Patrick Grant heard this, he could only sigh. He couldn’t really criticize his son; after all, a man was supposed to be ambitious about his career.
Annabelle Linton, on the other hand, didn’t mind at all. She slept soundly all night, alone in the luxurious king-sized bed.
Leona Grant returned the next day at lunchtime. Looking at his expressionless son, Patrick Grant felt a mix of anger and helplessness.
’He’s always so aloof. What can anyone even say?’
After the meal, the family gathered in the living room to chat.
After they had been sitting for a while, Ashley Grant suddenly stood up and said to Annabelle Linton, "Sister-in-law, let’s go out! I haven’t been back to Celestia in a long time, so I don’t know my way around anymore. You should take me out today."
When Roxanne Jennings heard this, a sharp glint appeared in her eyes. She said cheerfully, "Ashley’s right. Young people should get out more. Leona, why don’t you go with Annabelle and Ashley? Go have some fun and relax."
