Jin effortlessly slipped through the window and entered the room.

Though the creaking sound of the window opening unintentionally produced a noise, it went unnoticed by Adam. The boy probably thought the sound was produced by the wind. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

Once inside, Jin took a moment to assess his surroundings.

The room was tidy with nothing scattered on the floor. Jin nods at the state of the room. There were no obstacles cluttering the floor, minimizing the risk of unnecessary noise. Furthermore, the door was also closed, meaning that nobody would abruptly enter the room.

Adam sat at his study desk. His back was facing Jin. He was oblivious to the presence of an intruder in the room and remained completely engrossed in his study.

This situation offers Jin the perfect opportunity to carry out his mission without detection.

Jin approached Adam. His movement was as silent as it could be.

Jin can't simply grab Adam from behind. Doing so would likely result in a struggle to take place, which really is not a big problem for Jin, but the struggle may leave marks on Adam's body.

If someone were to investigate later on, they could easily conclude that Adam was attacked from behind. Based on this conclusion alone, many would think that the culprit could be anyone which is not helpful to the objective of the mission in the first place.

In order to ensure things develop in the direction the client wants, the attack must be made from the front. This way, it would be more believable to assume that Adam had been harmed by someone he knew. Someone who can easily approach Adam without him raising his guard.

Jin stands right behind Adam. Thanks to the soft glow of a nearby lantern, Jin's presence cast an elongated shadow on the wall.

Adam who busied himself writing some notes caught sight of the shadow out of the corner of his eye. Whether it was a ghost or not, Adam was startled by the sight.

There's extra presence in the room and he didn't hear anything.

Nevertheless, Adam's curiosity got the better of him. Despite his initial shock, he chooses to turn around to confront the unknown presence in his room.

As his eyes met Jin's, a chill ran down his spine. His heart feels uneasy.

'Who is he?' Adam never met this man in his entire life. However, one thing for sure is that this man doesn't have any good intentions towards him.

"Who-" Before Adam could finish his words, Jin swiftly covered his mouth with his hand, silencing any potential outcry.

"Shh!" Jin's eyes locked with Adam's. He warned Adam against making any noise. "It's the middle of the night now. People are sleeping."

Adam's heart raced as he stared at Jin. He tried to break free from the grip but Jin was simply too strong.

As his attempt is unsuccessful, fear begins to creep inside of him. Thousands of questions whirled in Adam's mind.

Adam's eyes darted frantically around the room in search of an escape path. But even if he found one, with this man holding him tight, there was simply no way to escape.

'Anyone! Whoever it is, come and help' Screamed Adam in his heart.

His hand is still free and begins to reach for anything that can produce a loud noise. As long as somebody hears the noise, they will come over to check on him.

Jin, on the other hand, had been through this situation numerous times. He instantly realises what Adam trying to do.

As such, with only one hand that gripped half of Adam's face, he lifted the boy up in the air and moved him away from the desk to the centre of the room.

The plan was thwarted. Adam now has more space to wriggle as much as he wants. But doing such a thing is useless since his goal can't be achieved.

Seeing Adam stop wriggling around, Jin asked, "What? Already tired?"

Adam couldn't reply since his mouth was covered by Jin's firm grip. All he can do is stare at this unknown man with anger.

But Jin's expression remained impassive. He was unaffected by Adam's furious gaze. "Don't look at me like that, kid. It's not like I had any grudge with you. Someone hired me to deal with you. Just consider yourself unlucky."

Jin felt compelled to give Adam some explanation. He thinks of it as a small gesture of compassion.

Hopefully, the boy will harbour less resentment towards him. After all, Jin was merely a hired man tasked to carry out someone's bidding.

With that, Jin waves his hand. It was an action that left Adam confused.

But before Adam could process the situation fully, his attention was drawn to a sudden movement from his bed. Something flew out from there and flew toward Jin.

Adam's eyes widened in surprise. The dagger that his grandfather tells him to keep close to is hovered beside Jin, suspended in mid-air.

It defies all the laws he has studied so far.

As for how Jin knows there's a dagger near the bed, that has something to do with his experience in this industry.

Noble he encountered before usually kept weapons close to their bed as a form of protection.

"Pretty cool, right?" Jin casually asks. He couldn't get enough of this scene. All his victims have the same reaction.

With a gesture of his finger, Jin directed the dagger to move in a circular motion. He often gives his victims a bit of demonstration. His purpose is mainly to show off.

Adam watched in awe as the dagger obediently followed Jin's command.

"You see, kid. The world is such a vast and mysterious place. There are very few people who know about my ability. So don't feel bad about yourself. Maybe all the luck in your life has been exhausted. Not everybody has the privilege to witness this scene with their own eyes."

After showing the boy enough of his ability, Jin's index finger pointed at Adam's chest.

And the dagger flew following his order.
