Restart:Untalented Man-Chapter 466: Creating A Story
Somewhere in Klover City, the three agents gathered. Their breaths finally calmed after the tense escape from the estate.
Currently, what is left for them to do is to analyse the stack of documents they took.
Since they left in a hurry, they had no time to check everything and simply grabbed all the papers hidden under Dunn's bed.
"Wow!" Looking at the stack of paper in her hand, Agent No. 45 was amazed by what she saw. "This is incredible."
Agent No. 54 and No. 202 leaned in. They watched as No. 45 flipped through the documents.
The words written on the paper stripped the Klover family from all pretence.
All information about this noble family was laid bare in front of her.
Detailed notes on their financial dealings, personal habits and secret alliances were all documented.
"This is a treasure trove," Agent No. 54 said, unable to hide his excitement. "Oldman Dunn is amazing."
They had been tasked only with finding the list of people related to the Duke for the sake of the mission. Who knew they would come across a pile of treasure?
The sheer volume and detail of the information Dunn had gathered were far beyond their expectations.
Agent No. 45 nodded. She was amazed and felt slightly intimidated. She always thought highly of herself, believing that her skills were top-notch in the organization.
Her brilliant records and high success rate were the sources of her confidence.
She sees herself as one of SIN's best agents, deserving of her rank and reputation.
She firmly believed that the early agents were just lucky.
SIN, in the beginning, was just a fledgling organization that lacked people and structured systems. Promotions were easier to come by back then.
The newer, more refined system was supposed to be the proving ground for true talent, and she prided herself on excelling within it.
But now, seeing Dunn's meticulous work laid out before her, she realized how foolish her thoughts had been.
The early agents, including Dunn, were not lucky—they were extraordinary.
They had operated without the support of a refined system, relying on their skills, resourcefulness, and sheer tenacity.
"Yeah...He is really amazing." Agent No. 45 slowly admitted it.
While No. 45 was busy accepting the harsh truth, Agent No. 202 continued to sift through the papers, determined not to look useless.
After a few minutes, his eyes lit up as he found what they sought.
"Is this the list we're looking for?" he eagerly showed the paper to his seniors.
Agent No. 54 snatched the paper and examined it closely. "It seems like it. What do you think?" he said, passing the paper to Agent No. 45.
No. 45 took the paper and studied it carefully.
The list contained several names with some being circled in red.
"I think so. Some of the names are familiar, and they are definitely close to the Duke."
"Then, what are we waiting for? Let's go!" Agent No. 54 said.
The three agents began concocting their plan, discussing every detail to ensure their actions would be seamless and undetectable.
....
A week later, the four agents of SIN met again in the bustling city of Klover.
Dunn was already there, pacing his steps back and forth. "You got them?" he asked.
He sounds so impatient. Perhaps because Dunn was under pressure to show Johann some mission progress he promised.
Agent No. 45 handed over a stack of neatly folded papers. "Here they are. We managed to get samples from everyone on the list."
Dunn quickly inspected the papers, flipping through them with a discerning eye. "Why did it take you so long?"
He sounds unsatisfied with their performance.
Agent No. 54 felt the need to defend their efforts, decided to speak up. "Have some pity on us, senior. It wasn't easy to get every piece of these papers."
"Alright, alright." Dunn waved his hand dismissively, not wanting to argue with them. "Now that we have samples of their handwriting, let's move to the next step: creating a story."
To create a convincing fake story, one must always be mindful of time. It's like a gear that fits perfectly into the system. Every detail must align seamlessly with the known facts.
Johann was a meticulous person. There's no way they can fool him with half-baked works.
"We need to construct a narrative that starts with mentioning Adam one or two times. Then, as time passes, the frequency increases and the tones in the letter subtly change and become more hostile." Dunn explained.
"The story needs to be complicated enough but not so detailed that it raises suspicion. After all, humans don't suddenly have murderous thoughts. A grievance or hatred was accumulated over time. From that feeling, motive emerged." said Agent No. 45.
"Exactly," Dunn agreed.
Unlike novels, they don't need to create a complete and very detailed background. Just enough with faking here and there.
As long as every letter is linked with each other and the story progression is smooth, everything should be fine.
"It's going to take a lot of time preparing these fake evidences. Johann's son has been dead for more than a decade," Agent No. 54 voices out his concern.
"Focus on creating the story about Adam's death. There's no need to delve too deeply into Johann's son. He would be suspicious if we suddenly had a complete set of evidence for both incidents."
Agent No. 202 asked, "What about finding dirt on Percival?"
Dunn shook his head. "That's a dessert. Put that aside for now. We need to work on the main dish first."
"When should we start?" asked Agent No. 45.
"As soon as you can. I will supervise the progress."
"Wait! You're not helping us?" Agent No. 54 looked at Dunn with questioning eyes.
Dunn smile. "I'm a gardener. When do I have time to write a story? This old man needs some rest too."
There's no way he do these tedious jobs.
What's the point of having subordinates if you can't use them?
