Restart:Untalented Man-Chapter 489: Dinner
The room fell silent as Riz stated his offer.
Percival and Sarika look at each other. They were baffled and unsure of how they should react.
The offer from the king is a big deal but there's always a catch. There's no way the offers were made out of goodwill.
If they were to accept such an offer, they would probably be stepping back into a world of power they once knew.
The same world where they were kicked out of.
Sarika was the first to break the silence. "What exactly do you have in mind, Your Majesty?"
Riz smiled, "Not much. If you're worried I'll trick you, then I can assure you on my honour that I'm not. What I would gain by tricking two fallen nobles."
Percival weighed the proposition.
He knew better than to take such an offer at face value.
Yet, something was attractive about the idea of returning to a place where his skills could be put to use.
He rather not live a life of obscurity and irrelevance.
"What kind of position are we talking about?"
"For starters, it's an advisory role for you. Your experience would be invaluable in aiding my council with matters of governance and foreign relations."
Given Percival's experience, Riz wants him to manage one of the provinces. However, it was too early to make that decision.
Riz turned his attention to Sarika, "As for you, your military expertise is useful in training our cadets at the academy. You may not know this, but you're pretty famous here."
Sarika raised an eyebrow, "If I'm famous, wouldn't that mean I'll attract hostility?"
Riz, however, seemed unfazed by her worries.
"Not really. They're not that mad at you. Maybe because we won in the end. Besides, it's the military academy we were talking about. They respect strength and skill."
The offer was intriguing to her.
"Of course, you are free to decline. If you prefer to pursue a peaceful life, I will not stand in your way."
Although his words sound considerate, his smile suggests otherwise.
"Your Majesty, we need some time to consider your offer. This is not a decision we can make lightly." Percival interjected.
"Take all the time you need. My door is always open to those who wish to serve this kingdom."
When their conversation concluded, the day had turned into night.
A sense of unease grew within Percival and Sarika.
They exchanged a worried glance and had the same question in mind. Where do they sleep tonight?
They were unfamiliar with Bideford.
However, their concern proved to be unnecessary since Riz had already decided to let them stay here tonight.
Knock! Knock!
"Who is it?"
"Your Majesty, it's Anna. The dinner is ready." there came the voice from the other side of the door.
"Alright. I will be right there in a minute." He replies before turning toward the guests, "Let's have dinner together. I've arranged for you to stay at my residence tonight. Consider it part of my hospitality."
Percival and Sarika were taken aback. But they didn't refuse it since they had no other option.
"Thank you, Your Majesty."
"No worries."
Riz led them to the dining area.
When they arrived, the table was already set. A fine spread of dishes was laid out.
But it wasn't the food that first caught their attention. It was the presence of a woman who was already seated at the table.
The queen, Theodora Tetherswest, was there, gently resting her hands on the arms of the chair.
Percival and Sarika immediately recognized her identity.
"It's an honour to meet you, Your Majesty, Queen Theodora," Percival offered a respectful bow. "My name is Percival, and this is my daughter, Sarika."
Theodora's eyes met theirs. She returned their greetings with a kind smile.
"It's a pleasure to meet both of you. Please forgive me for greeting you while sitting."
Percival and Sarika's eyes naturally fell on the queen's bulging belly and understood her reason.
Theodora was well along in her pregnancy. It would indeed be an inconvenience for her to stand, even briefly.
Moreover, it really surprising that they didn't catch wind of this news.
Usually, a monarch would spread the news to reassure everyone about the continuation of the ruling bloodline.
Only when there's an heir can the people calm down.
Percival and Sarika more or less can guess the reason why the king spends more time in his residence rather than staying in his office.
"Congratulations, Your Majesty."
"Thank you," Theodora replied.
Riz, who had been observing their short conversation gestured for them to take their seats. "Please, join us."
Percival and Sarika took their places at the table.
Their attention was naturally drawn to the meal before them.
However, Riz noticed that one person was absent.
So, he asked. "Where's Mother Josephine?"
The father and daughter's ears perked up.
'Josephine? Isn't that the name of the princess's biological mother?' Sarika thought.
The princess in question was, of course, Reina who unfortunately ended up in Barlia.
"She isn't feeling well and wanted to rest in her room," Theodora replies.
"Have you called the doctor?"
Ryntum's current healthcare sector isn't on par with the modern era in terms of medicine, equipment or services.
There's still so much to be improved but it is the best in Jozia nonetheless.
His kingdom continuously searches for medical books and its practitioners.
In fact, the hunt for books has intensified ever since Theodora was discovered to be pregnant.
After all, childbirth was a highly dangerous stage for the mother and the child.
Riz wanted to make sure everything was top-notch by the time Theodora gave birth.
If Ryntum's doctors can't treat it, almost nobody else can.
"I did. The doctor assured me it was nothing to worry about. She's just tired."
Riz exhaled. He was relieved that there was nothing serious.
"Mother Josephine has been through a lot. I'll check on her after dinner. There's a piece of good news I've yet to tell her."
