Chapter 19: Extracting Ability

Chapter 19

A sarcastic chuckle escaped me despite the pain of the force crushing me. "You know, I used to have a brother like you. Wanna know how he ended up?" I asked, my emotionless stare locking with his bloodlust eyes. "I killed him."

Fuck Dante was starting to piss me off. I released a burst of demonic energy off my body, instantly shattering his telekinetic hold on me and forcing him backwards by a few meters. Maybe it was time I actually took this fight seriously.

I shadow stepped, blinding speed tearing me across the battlefield and splitting into streaks of ghostly silhouettes. Dozens of afterimages spun around him like a storm, and his head jerked side to side in frantic confusion, desperate to figure out which one was real.

I didn’t stop there. My clones slipped into existence, blending seamlessly with the illusions. They moved with me, copied my speed, mimicked my every gesture until the entire field became a blur of bodies, illusions stacked on illusions, endless phantoms circling him like vultures waiting to rip apart fresh meat. The chaos alone was enough to make anyone’s vision spin.

"Enough!" Dante roared, thrusting his power outward. The ground erupted, jagged stones, chunks of dirt, and broken earth ripped through the air in every direction, tearing apart the space around him. Dust and debris filled the air as he tried to crush everything at once, desperate to annihilate my swarm.

But my clones didn’t even flinch. His attack passed through them like smoke because none of them were me. They were unstoppable as long as my real body safe, although I still couldn’t make near as many as when I had hundred percent of my power.

"I’m right here."

The words slipped from my mouth, a whisper pressed against his back, right where his heartbeat thundered. His eyes went wide, panic dawning too late. Before he could react, my arm ripped straight through his chest with a sickening crunch, my hand bursting out the other side of his ribcage. Hot blood sprayed across my arm in violent spurts, painting the ground as his heart quivered in my grip.

I twisted my wrist slowly, savoring the way his body convulsed, the shock flooding his wide eyes. He stared at me, disbelieving, choking on his own blood as if he couldn’t comprehend how I’d gotten this close. He must’ve forgotten, I wasn’t just fast. I could teleport. And while he was lost in illusions and phantoms, I’d already chosen the perfect moment to end him.

"I’ve been waiting for this moment." I taunted with a smirk. "How does it feel to be killed by the one person you’ve always looked down on?"

"F—fuck you!" He groaned, his arm stretching desperately as if trying to grab me. I almost laughed, what did he think that could do? Like seriously I hadn’t expected he’d be this easy to kill. Too bad he wasn’t the opponent i needed.

I tried pulling my hand out of his body and dragging his heart along with it, but something held on tight to me, preventing me from pulling out. I stared at Dante wide eyed, expecting it was him playing some trick, but it wasn’t him. Because right before my eyes, Dante began drying up as If his energy was being sucked out.

I looked down at my arm as I felt a strange sensation coming up. Right there, my veins bulged with purple light. My eyes widened, what the hell was happening? This wasn’t my power, I didn’t have to ability to take the energy of another.

Within several seconds, Dante’s dried up body fell to the floor as my hand finally pulled free from him. I looked down at his corpse, he looked completely unrecognizable. His face was sunken in, skin shriveled and clinging to bone as if decades of life had been stripped away in seconds. His eyes, once filled with that annoying bloodlust, were empty sockets now. Nothing more than a hollowed shell.

What in the world was this power. Did I just take his ability, or was it just his energy.

I raised my hand slowly, still staring at the faint purple glow running through my veins. There was only one way to know if I actually had his ability.

I fixed my eyes on a chunk of broken stone lying a few meters away. I focused, clenching my fist.

For a second, nothing happened. My jaw tightened as I frowned slightly, did I get my hopes up for nothing? But then suddenly the stone jerked violently off the ground and floated in midair. My eyes widened.

"No fucking way..." I muttered.

I tightened my grip, and the rock crumbled like it was being crushed by an invisible hand. Dust and sharp fragments fell through the air. A dark grin tugged at my lips.

"Looks like it wasn’t just his energy I took... it’s his damn power."

The realization hit hard. I hadn’t just killed Dante, I’d absorbed him. His telekinesis was mine now. My pulse quickened from excitement. Was this Lucian’s ability all along? No wonder no one ever knew what his ability was, and the reason he was ranked F was because he hadn’t absorbed any ability, which made him seem weak.

I turned toward Dante’s corpse, or what was left of it, I controled, and the power obeyed, the body lifted off the ground like a rag doll. Bones cracked under the invisible pressure as I raised him higher, his shriveled frame dangling helplessly.

"This is insane," I whispered, almost laughing. The control felt natural, like I’d been using this ability all my life.

With one thought, I clenched my fist, and Dante’s dried corpse exploded into a rain of blood and shredded flesh. The ground was painted red in an instant. Several keys dropped to the floor along the spray of blood. The keys must have been made to be indestructible. With this many, I guess my hunt was over.

After so long, this was how a proud God complex sick psycho ends up, crushed to bits without any evidence to prove his death. The academy would be shocked, I’m sure they’d never expect Dante to fail.

I licked the blood from my lips, smirking as the purple glow faded slightly in my veins. "Not bad. Guess I just leveled up."

"Lucian, are you hurt?" I heard Lilian’s worried voice call from behind me.
