Chapter 106: The curse

The academy consisted of the central tower, the Sun Tower, and the Moon Tower.

The central tower was for all those who wanted to further their studies on aura, whether they used a sword, axe, spear, or even their fists, while the sun and moon towers were for mages or those who aspired to be.

Baines had then altered his head guard’s facial characteristics to mimic his with the bracelet from Vole, and his to an average person with aging reversal. The bracelet could only work on one person at a time.

Then he sent the guards and the servant to gather all the attention and go to the moon tower. That way, they took all attention away from him, and he could focus on the sun tower.

He knew it wouldn’t last, but by then, he would’ve entered the moon tower. The sun and moon towers had ten floors each, and there was no limit to how long one could spend on a floor.

Whenever one felt ready, they could take the test to move to the next floor.

Usually, students chose the moon tower because the moon tower was filled with mages from the Lunar dominion, and they were more skilled in magic than Solaris, who owned the sun tower.

And when they chose the moon tower, they usually went straight to the third floor. However, he wanted to learn magic and other things, so he would take his time in between each floor to form the techniques he had already decided on and try opening his second core vessels.

That wasn’t all.

Somewhere, hidden among these thousands of books on the first and second floors, lay the third treasure in the Solaris empire.

That was his last reason for choosing the sun tower. So, after he got his mage uniform and received his badge, he wasted no time and began reading.

...

Locke, the head guard, continuously cursed under his breath as a crowd followed him from the administrative building to the moon tower.

Before he even reached it, the doors were opened wide, and he was received with a grand welcome. For what felt like the first time, the mages were happy they were mages.

Baines hadn’t only changed his face, he had also given him basic information about himself, and he didn’t just say it, he inserted it into his brain.

"Student Jin, welcome. We have prepared a seventh-floor mage to guide you through your learning process." Locke’s eyes almost widened at those words.

A seventh-floor mage was off his jurisdiction normally. They were usually mages from high to peak 6th stars, while he was just lucky to be a master in the first place.

Locke shook off his surprise and calmed down to think. ’Wait, I finally have the chance to be famous, even though it isn’t me, this might never happen to me, right?’

So, he suddenly thought, why hate it? All he had to do was use the basic knowledge of magic to quickly advance and actively learn magic. This could also become a god-sent opportunity for him to learn magic from a skilled person.

His posture suddenly changed, and he nodded confidently. His subordinates shot envious glances at him. The servant likewise was piecing the situation together and concluded, ’He’s smart.’

The best thing for Baines was for Locke to fully accept and embody his role, and he was currently rising to the occasion.

However, not everyone fell for it.

...

In the Sun Palace’s imperial chamber, Emperor Ar’den Gel Sol’aris, his sun-marked forehead glowing faintly, read a report and chuckled. "Jin Malakar, huh," he said, glancing at a middle-aged man in a golden robe adorned with five suns.

He was the Third Imperial Commander. Kiol Malakar. One could say he was the brains behind the empire.

"Looks like your son did something interesting."

"..." The man said nothing and let his mind think for a minute.

Kiol remained silent, processing the emperor’s words as he read another report. "It says, Jin Malakar entered the Moon Tower with nine guards and a servant," the emperor mused. "Where the tenth guard is, I wonder?" His chuckled.

From the emperor’s words, he already guessed what Baines had done.

"Anyway, what have you found out about the disappearance of the Silver’s vault and their remaining survivors?"

"Unless another force acted, my only guess is the Astra family got involved."

"That’s what I also thought," the emperor mused as he looked up.

Knock... Knock

"Enter."

"Your Highness," Ten golden knights entered, knelt, and dragged some bloodied figures who knelt, trembling.

"M-Mercy, Your Highness," they pleaded, heads slamming against the floor. These were the eunuchs who had questioned the emperor’s decision to send Jin to the Red Sun in the throne room.

The emperor’s gaze was unyielding. The lead eunuch, his forehead bruised and bleeding, shouted, "WE DID IT BECAUSE OF THE CURSE." The remaining eunuchs went silent at the shout.

The room stilled, the other eunuchs freezing at his outburst. The emperor and Kiol exchanged surprised glances, curiosity piqued.

"Yes," the emperor spoke, and the eunuch became elated in his mind. It meant he was listening.

"I-I don’t know how he did it for the Darkans, however, we have reason to believe he can do the same with the imperial family." The place was silent, and he continued.

"W-We heavily pondered on the things he had done with only aura. W-We even captured one of the Darkans and questioned him, and he said something about his soul shifting. What if, just what if he learned magic, just what would he accomplish? " He muttered the last part but continued,

"Your Highness, for the future of the empire, I made that decision." The room went silent for a long time.

...

After scanning through a shelf of basic books about magic, he closed it, feeling a bit frustrated.

As Eye had told him years back, in the ashenfall ruins, mana is the energy pulled from the world and gathered into the core. And with the method Martos taught him, he could use mana simultaneously with aura. However, the books were too basic.

Some talked about the clothes mages wore, the foods they could eat, even little exercises.

He reached into his pocket space for the law genius’s book to see whether he could locate the exact position of the treasure when his hand felt something.

He frowned and opened the space wider, and his face was met with blinding gold.

"What is—" Before he asked, he suddenly remembered. ƒгeewebnovёl_com

The treasures from the Silver family, the family that served the wind god. All their treasures he’d asked Wick to strip off were here.

"How did I forget?" He muttered. He didn’t know how Wick did it, but he was able to ransack the whole Silver family of their valuables.

"I hope they have something useful."
