Ruling the Historical Romance Novel as the Female Supporting Character-Chapter 102: Never Underestimate Any Ordinary Person
"Alright, since you’re so stubborn and won’t tell the truth, I won’t waste my energy asking anymore," Su Yijia said with a sly smile.
Lin Jiayao was left puzzled, standing there awkwardly with no idea how to position himself.
But as he didn’t speak, Su Yijia remained silent, and the two men beside her also refrained from speaking. They simply ignored Lin Jiayao.
More than a minute passed before he finally spoke in a somewhat helpless tone, "Yijia, I know you’re really angry about your parents’ favoritism, but you’re married now, and you’ll be living at the Qin family’s home. If you don’t like your parents that much, just visit your Su family less. Why do you need to prove that your parents aren’t your biological parents?"
"Go away! Since you’re not willing to tell the truth, I won’t keep you here," Su Yijia motioned for him to leave.
The situation had escalated to this point, and her uncle still refused to speak. It was clear that the hidden secrets ran deeper than she had initially thought.
"Yijia..." Lin Jiayao began to say but choked on his words. He had a flushed face, but he couldn’t bring himself to say anything more.
Su Yijia chuckled, "Uncle, don’t worry. If the job has been given to you, it’s yours. I won’t change my mind."
Of course not!
She’s a very whimsical person. If they had indeed collaborated to harm the original host’s biological parents in any way, she could not only change her mind but even disown them. Lin Jiayao, however, didn’t notice the cruel glint in Su Yijia’s eyes, so he thought they had successfully fooled her this time and breathed a sigh of relief.
"Well, I’ll head back now. Your aunt and your cousin are still anxious," he said somewhat uneasily before quickly leaving the Qin residence.
It wasn’t until he reached the end of the alley that he realized he hadn’t thoroughly talked with Su Yijia and might need to reassure her not to investigate her mother and sister’s involvement in whatever happened. He couldn’t believe they had been sent to jail. But when he looked back at the dark and secluded alley, it felt like a gaping abyss, waiting to swallow its prey. Overwhelmed with fear, he gave up on trying to persuade her and rushed away.
"Sister-in-law, are you absolutely sure you’re not your parents’ biological child?" Ke Zeming asked with curiosity, looking at Su Yijia, whose face had returned to normal.
"Of course," Su Yijia replied firmly. She then provocatively raised an eyebrow at him and said, "You don’t mean to tell me you couldn’t figure this out, right? They haven’t undergone any special training; they should be easy to question."
Now, even Ke Zeming and Gao Huabin could see that something was amiss.
"Sister-in-law, you’re not intentionally using them to help you find out what you want to know, are you?" Gao Huabin stared at her with wide eyes, looking astounded.
Su Yijia grinned with a slightly mischievous look and said, "Don’t they want to know whether I’ve contacted my biological parents and that’s why there’s been such a significant change? And that I’ve associated with those people, ultimately appearing in front of the old professor deliberately?"
Ke Zeming rubbed his temples, feeling a headache coming on. That was indeed what they were thinking. Their thought process had led them to interrogate Qin Kaize’s wife’s mother for a full three days. However, at this point, regardless of the interrogation results, he could be certain that they had all been used by Qin Kaize’s wife, working as unpaid labor. Nevertheless, what really mattered was the final outcome of the investigation.
After rushing to the scene after work, Zhu Zirui entered the room and immediately sensed that something was amiss. He scanned Ke Zeming and Su Yijia before looking at Gao Huabin, who seemed completely unfazed.
"Hello, Sister-in-law," Zhu Zirui greeted Su Yijia and then turned to Ke Zeming, nodding slightly. "Come with me; I need to talk to you."
Ke Zeming, unsure of what was going on, stood up and followed Zhu Zirui to a room in Gao Huabin’s residence.
Once they were out of sight from others, Zhu Zirui suddenly locked his hand around Ke Zeming’s throat.
"What are you doing? She’s our sister-in-law! Even if you’re an old bachelor, you can’t have designs on our sister-in-law," Zhu Zirui hissed, threatening in a low voice, audible only to them.
Initially, Ke Zeming wanted to resist but was so startled that he froze in place. He snapped back to reality and forcefully pushed Zhu Zirui away.
"What are you talking about?" Ke Zeming hissed back, alarmed. After realizing he was speaking too loudly, he lowered his voice and retorted, "I’m a human, not an animal! With so many women in the world, I’d have to be crazy to be interested in Qin Kaize’s wife. Do you really think so low of me?"
"Who knows?" Zhu Zirui didn’t drop his suspicions despite Ke Zeming’s defense. "If you have no ulterior motives, why is the atmosphere between you and Sister-in-law so strange?"
Ke Zeming opened his mouth as if to argue but then remembered that this was a classified mission and he couldn’t reveal any details. However, he also felt like a clown. What was the point of keeping it classified? Qin Kaize’s wife likely knew they would send someone to investigate and was using their suspicions against them. She had just openly acknowledged their doubts a moment ago.
Even if Ke Zeming didn’t say anything, Zhu Zirui would probably hear the truth from Qin Kaize’s wife. Shaking his head, Ke Zeming could only briefly describe the situation. Once he finished, he saw Zhu Zirui looking at him as if he were a fool.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Ke Zeming asked.
"I’m just wondering how someone with your intelligence managed to reach this position," Zhu Zirui replied, showing his disdain for Ke Zeming.
"Imagine if it were you or the boss, or even if it were I or Huabin were in her position, do you think we wouldn’t take advantage of the opportunity in the same way?" Ke Zeming’s body stiffened, and he began to feel awkward.
"Although you’re conducting a normal investigation, deep down, you don’t think our sister-in-law is particularly smart or capable. For the same situation, if it were one of us, you would immediately harbor suspicions. But when it comes to our sister-in-law, she didn’t hide anything. It’s you who underestimated her, and now you’re even throwing a tantrum. You, let me tell you, how can you still have the nerve to quarrel with our sister-in-law? You should be grateful that our sister-in-law taught you a lesson. Don’t underestimate women or any ordinary person who hasn’t received special training. National training doesn’t mean we are always stronger or smarter than everyone."
Zhu Zirui reached out and thumped Ke Zeming’s chest.
"I know this is my mistake," Ke Zeming admitted with deep self-blame and introspection in his lowered gaze.
