Ruling the Historical Romance Novel as the Female Supporting Character-Chapter 301: Too Much Was Wasted Before
Qin Kaize and Su Yijia had no choice but to obediently return to their room. Looking at Su Yijia’s clear, beautiful eyes, he wanted to pour all his affection into this soft and gentle girl.
"Do you want to rest or take a look around the space?" He asked with a smile, gently touching her face.
"I want to go to the space. I just woke up from a nap and can’t sleep now," Su Yijia said, shaking her head and giving him a playful glance.
Qin Kaize quickly sobered, fearing he might upset her, "Wait for me a moment. I’ll get some things."
What was he going to get?
In no time, Qin Kaize returned with a water bucket, basin, a small bamboo basket, bamboo chair, and a towel, making it seem like they were going on a picnic.
He couldn’t use the spiritual spring water, so he needed to handle farming tasks inside the space and might need to wash his hands.
Locking the door, he took Su Yijia’s hand, and the two of them stepped into the space.
"I’ll first harvest the rice and wheat. We can plant two more crops today," Qin Kaize said, placing the chair to the side and picking various fruits from the trees, putting them into the bamboo basket. "You can sit here and eat some fruit while I finish up."
"I’ll help too. That way, we’ll finish faster," Su Yijia insisted, wanting to join in.
But Qin Kaize firmly pressed her into the chair and said seriously, "Just a bit of work doesn’t need you to do it. Don’t underestimate your man. Just sit here and keep me company."
Su Yijia opened her mouth, but seeing his determined expression, she decided to comply.
"Then I’ll sit here and draw while keeping you company."
Qin Kaize nodded, spreading out the oilcloth Su Yijia had set aside. Since the space was only 200 cubic meters, there wasn’t much room left. However, it was enough for harvesting rice.
He was quick and skilled at cutting rice, unlike Su Yijia, who had injured her leg when she first tried it. Thankfully, the healing ointment had helped, but the pain had left her with a psychological barrier. Her past inexperience and slow progress meant she still had a hard time with it.
As Qin Kaize harvested most of the rice, Su Yijia tilted her head in confusion and asked, "Why did you say we could plant two more crops today? Isn’t it usually just two crops a year?"
"Rice, wheat, soybeans, and rapeseed all mature in four months, while peanuts mature in six months. The limitation of two crops a year outside is due to weather," Qin Kaize explained as he continued harvesting the rice.
With the spiritual spring water in the space, a day could equal a year. Twelve months a year meant two hours per month. Crops that mature in four months need to be harvested every eight hours, and peanuts every twelve hours.
"I was wasting too much before, only harvesting peanuts once a day," he reflected.
"I’ll pick some fruit," Su Yijia said, feeling the time was tight.
"No need. Leave it to me. I don’t want you to get tired," Qin Kaize said firmly, even attempting to stop her.
But Su Yijia stared with her big, round eyes and replied, "I can’t just sit around every day with no exercise. Moderate exercise is good for the body, and I’m not tired."
Qin Kaize understood the importance of moderate exercise but was reluctant to let her work. Seeing her insistence, he realized she would be anxious if she were left idle.
"Then just handle the fruit. I’ll finish up here and come back," he conceded a bit.
Picking fruit was easier and didn’t require replanting. Su Yijia took a bamboo basket and a small tool for picking fruit, collecting fruits into the basket and then into a burlap sack.
A fruit tree that is fifty years old produces about 20 to 80 jin of fruit. Her trees yielded around 120 jin. She picked fruit daily, now having about 1300 jin of each type.
After half an hour, she noticed that the apple trees she first harvested had already started to bloom again. It was just as Qin Kaize had said.
Su Yijia couldn’t help but be amazed. She sorted and packed the fruit while Qin Kaize planted the new rice and wheat.
"Stay back a bit. I need to thresh the rice and wheat," Qin Kaize said, moving the chair farther away to avoid any discomfort from the small particles.
Su Yijia, knowing he wouldn’t allow her to help, wet a cotton cloth and tied it around Qin Kaize’s face. He bent down to cooperate.
His eyes, as beautiful as gems, shimmered with endless tenderness. After she finished, he lifted a corner of the cloth and placed a soft kiss on her lips.
Qin Kaize worked quickly, finishing in half an hour. Although each burlap sack was only a third full, the yield was impressive, making his heart race.
"The yield is almost absurdly high."
Even with fertilizer, not every farm could achieve this. Normally, an acre yields 200 to 400 jin, and poorer land might yield only 150 to 200 jin. But here, with just a quarter of an acre, nearly 90 jin?
"Is the yield so low in your world?" Su Yijia asked, also surprised.
"There are incredibly advanced scientists in my world. In fifty years, each acre will yield 1000 to 1200 jin. Since this space is only one-seventeenth of an acre, with the spiritual spring water’s effect, an acre can yield around 1500 jin. And the seeds from this space can produce the same yield outside."
Qin Kaize’s eyes sparkled with excitement. "So, if we use these seeds outside, the yield will be that good?"
"Crops grown from space seeds can produce good yields once, but the next generation of crops won’t be as high-yielding and will revert to the current yield outside," Su Yijia clarified.
Even though she gave him this answer, Qin Kaize wasn’t disappointed. He knew how to manage Jiajia’s things and was cautious about attracting unwanted attention.
