Sacred Flame: His Enemy, His Mate (BL)-Chapter 23: Good pup
Kain Locke
"Get in the car will you? Or should I have it moving without you?" He said from the front seat and my teeth gnashed together, my hands tightening into a fist as I got into the car.
Earlier, after giving that proposition, I just had to follow him, not only will not doing so reduce my chances of meeting Brian this week to just one. I’ve also missed him a lot.
The car hummed to life, and just like most of the expensive automatic flying cars you can see everywhere around the City, it rose from the ground and up it went in the air and started flying.
We weren’t on the island, nor in the hotel where the unfortunate incidents had occurred the previous day, this place is just like a normal building with several sections.
I wasn’t surprised they could move us that soon. Caspian has a lot of buildings like this built or bought only for the purpose of his work. So if one was discovered, there were plenty more available to seek refuge in.
We were quiet throughout all the flying, even I couldn’t have been more glad no other Infuriating words tumble out of that untamed mouth of his.
After some time, the automated voice of the female system was announced.
[Almost at destination, would you like to stop or change destination?]
He pressed some stuff and just like the other day, the barrier that was transparent earlier started opening, and rolled off until it was completely off, and the car descended.
It landed with a soft hum and I tugged at the door to open it, however, it didn’t budge, neither open.
So I turned to him, his gaze still very much fixed on the front. He didn’t seem in a hurry to let me out.
I took a deep breath, trying to keep my anger in check. "Open the door."
He didn’t respond, his eyes were still forward, a hint of a smile playing on his lips.
I gritted my teeth. "I said, open the door."
Finally, he glanced at me, "And if I don’t?"
My fingers tightened around the door handle, but it was no use. The lock was still firm. "You brought me here, and I believe it’s not to keep me locked in here, so let me out."
He sighed, as if bored. "You never did know how to ask nicely."
"Maybe if you’d ’acted’ nicely, I would have reciprocated it." I sneered, tugging at the door again.
He shook his head with a little smile, and with a flick of his fingers, he tapped on the control panel, and the lock clicked.
"There. Happy now?"
I didn’t even respond to him as I pushed the door open and stepped out, my feet landing on solid ground. I didn’t look back, didn’t give him the satisfaction of seeing how much he was getting to me.
But just as I started to walk away, his voice called out. "Wait for me, will you?"
I didn’t answer and kept walking forward, my footsteps echoing against the pavement. But then I heard a deep, menacing snarl.
I froze, my heart skipping a beat as the sound grew louder. Turning around, my eyes widened as a massive dog came charging toward me with its teeth bared, barking ferociously.
"Shit!" I jumped back just in time, its jaws snapping inches from my leg. I stumbled, nearly falling as I scrambled to put some distance between us.
Before I could even catch my breath, Kael was there just as quickly, stepping in smoothly. "Easy, boy," he said, his voice annoyingly calm as he grabbed the dog’s collar. He rubbed the dog’s head, his fingers gently scratching behind its ears. "Good boy... that’s enough."
The growling stopped, replaced by a low, satisfied purr as the dog nuzzled into his hand and started wagging its tail. You will hardly believe it’s the same dog who almost sank its teeth in my leg like a piece of meat!
I stood there, chest heaving as I glared at him, my hands still shaking. "You should’ve told me there was a dog!"
He looked over his shoulder at me, his expression frustratingly calm. "Like you give me the chance," he rolled his eye, "I told you to wait, didn’t I?"
"Asshole!" I shouted, my fists clenching.
He just chuckled, continuing to pet the dog, "He’s your second dad, so don’t go biting him again."
I blinked, staring at him, then at the dog who was now happily panting in his arms, looking more like a playful pup than the monster that almost mauled me.
"Second... what?" The words tumbled out of my mouth before I could stop them.
Kael just grinned, "Come on, we don’t have all day." He turned, leading the dog away as if nothing had happened.
I stood there, my mind racing to catch up. "Seriously... What the hell is wrong with this guy?"
"Uncle! Mama’s friend!" I heard a happy sequel of a little boy and my mouth hangs open.
Mama’s friend? That’s undoubtedly Brian... So how did he come to know Kael? And what’s with the uncle?
I was still finding it hard to process whatever was going on when he screamed again, "Mama!" And the next second, he came running towards me, I quickly rushed to meet him as I swept him off his feet, planting a kiss on his forehead.
My eyes were still on the dog as I held Brian close, my heart pounding. How could Kael let my son walk around freely with that beast nearby? What if it had jumped on him like it did me?
I tightened my grip on Brian, "Don’t just go running about like this with that dog around."
"But Tiger’s my friend! He won’t bite me." he pouted.
"Tiger?" I echoed, looking over at the dog now lying calmly at Kael’s feet. Its tail thumped lazily against the ground, Brian even knows it’s name?
"Yep! Uncle Mama’s friend told me his name is Tiger. And Tiger likes me! We play everyday since I come here."
I blinked, my mind struggling to keep up. Uncle? Mama’s friend? How did Brian even know Kael? And since when did he start calling him uncle? It was only a few days for goodness sake?
I looked at Kael, who stood there, leaning against the wall with that annoyingly smug smile on his face. He didn’t say a word, just watched me as if he was enjoying every bit of my confusion. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
I took a deep breath, "What do you mean, Mama’s friend? How... how do you know him?"
He giggled, wrapping his hands around my neck. "It’s true, it’s really true! Uncle even said you’ll come today, and you did!"
I felt my heart skip a beat. "He told you I’d be here?"
Brian’s head bobbed up and down. "Yep! He tells me on this!" He wiggled out of my arms, and before I could stop him and ran off toward the building.
"Brian! Wait!" I called after him, my eyes flicking to the dog again. But Tiger just lay there, his tongue lolling out like a lazy pup.
I shot both master and pup a glare but didn’t waste another word. I hurried after Brian.
He was fast, his little legs carrying him across the yard and through the entrance of the massive building. I followed, my eyes darting around the unfamiliar hallways. Just how did Kael get so close to him without me knowing in such small span of time?
Brian ran into one of the rooms and came out a moment later holding a tablet. "Here, Mama’s friend talks to me on this!"
I stared at the tablet, my hands trembling as I took it from him. "He... he talks to you?"
Brian nodded again, his smile wide. "Yep! He always tells me stories and plays games with me Everytime!"
