Sacred Flame: His Enemy, His Mate (BL)-Chapter 24: Riding
Kain Locke
"Mama, Mia at kindergarten said the amusement park is so much fun! She went on a hot air balloon that flies like a bird the other day! Uncle promised to take me last night, so we’re going today right?"
Brian’s eyes were wide with excitement, his little hands gripping my shirt. I shot a glare at Kael, who leaned casually against the wall, arms crossed and a smug smirk playing on his lips.
This was his plan all along. He knew I couldn’t say no to Brian.
And that aside, when did the two get so close to an extent like this? I just couldn’t understand what he was playing at, but it’s really grating on my nerves.
Brian tugged on my shirt again, his voice softening as he gave me those puppy eyes, "We’re going... right?"
I opened my mouth to explain, but Kael had already stepped in before I could.
He crouched down to Brian’s level, his expression softening in a way I didn’t expect. "Of course, little one. Your mama and I will take you to the amusement park. Go wait in your room, and I’ll come get you soon." 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Brian’s face lit up, his eyes shining bright once again. "Really? Yay! We’re going on the hot air balloon!" He dashed off, his laughter echoing down the hall.
The moment he was out of sight, I rounded on Kael, my eyes blazing. "You did that on purpose. What are you really trying to achieve here?"
He didn’t even flinch. Only stood up in one swift motion and said, "You’re not thinking of breaking my head or slitting my throat, are you?"
I stepped back, my heart jumping at his closeness. When did he get so close to my ear? I crossed my arms, trying to look unaffected as I rolled my eyes, "Why don’t you take a guess."
"Yeah... well you can do that later, gotta go get the boy suited up, we have an amusement park to go to." He winked and started walking away, but I couldn’t even move from the spot I stood,
"And..." he gave me a look over his shoulder, "you look so darn ugly when you frown like that."
"Psycho!"
He laughed it off and walked, following the direction Brian took,
To be honest, I don’t want to follow him, but who knows what he’s doing to the boy in there? Or what else he’s feeding him aside from calling him uncle.
I gnashed my teeth, swallowed my anger down to the pit of my stomach, exhaled, chanted some self taught meditation so as not to go in there strangling him. Then I followed.

"Look, Mama! It’s a snake! The snake is moving and has people in it!" Brian’s eyes were wide as he pointed at the roller coaster twisting through the air.
"It’s called a roller coaster, Brian," I corrected him softly, but he was already tugging at my hand, his eyes sparkling. "Can we go on it?"
"No," I said firmly, my stomach churning just at the thought of getting on that wild ride. "It’s too dangerous."
Brian’s face fell, his lower lip jutting out in a pout. "But Mama..."
"Don’t worry, little one," Kael’s voice interrupted, "We’ll find something just as fun." He leaned down to Brian’s level. "How about bumper cars?"
"What’s that?" he inquired innocently.
Kael pointed to a nearby arena where small cars were crashing into each other, laughter and playful shouts filling the air. "You get to drive and bump into other cars."
Brian’s face brightened. "Really? I want to do that!" He ran ahead, his excitement pulling me along.
I followed, my eyes narrowing as I caught up with them, "Why are you doing this?"
He smirked. "Who said you only have the privilege to treat him well? He’s also my son remember?"
"Whatever"
We reached the bumper cars, and Brian was already bouncing on his toes, pointing at a bright red one with Mickey mouse design, "I want that one!"
Kael paid for the tickets without a second thought. I opened my mouth to protest because I have no money on me, but he was already guiding Brian to the car, helping him into the seat. "I’ll ride with him," he said, looking at me with a challenging smile in his eyes. "Unless you’re too scared to join?"
I scowled. "I’m not scared."
"Prove it."
I gritted my teeth and climbed into the car beside Brian. Kael took the driver’s seat, his hands firm on the wheel.
As soon as the ride started, he slammed his foot on the pedal, making the car jerking forward.
"Kael!" I shouted, gripping the edge of the car to stop myself from falling off. "Are you crazy?"
He just laughed, "Hold on tight." he said stepping on it again.
We sped around the arena, bumping into other cars as Brian’s laughed every now and then, pointing, screaming and giggling, he was having the time of his life, his joy so pure that I couldn’t help but smile. Maybe coming here wasn’t so bad after all.
Kael turned the wheel sharply, making the car spin before crashing into another one. I let out a yelp, my hand instinctively grabbing his arm.
He looked at me, a smug grin on his face. "Having fun touching me?"
I quickly let go, my face heating up. "Shut up, Dick!"
He laughed again, and for a moment, he looked almost... human.
After the bumper cars, Brian ran towards the cotton candy stall, "Mama, what’s that?"
"It’s cotton candy," I explained, "It’s sweet, like sugar clouds."
"If it’s sweet and yummy , then I want one!"
Kael bought him a huge pink swirl before I could protest. Brian took a bite, his eyes widening. "It’s melting!"
I laughed softly, watching him lick the sticky sweetness from his fingers. "You should laugh more often."
I stiffened, "Mind your own business."
He shrugged, clearly unfazed. "Just saying."
We spent the day moving from one ride to another, one house to the other, abd even though i was no longer a kid, it was fun. Maybe the most fun I’ve ever had.
The day is already setting, and I could tell from his face that he had enough,
"Mama... I’m sleepy." Brian muttered, yawning as he squeezed my pinky finger as we walked out of the Barbie room.
"We should probably get going back, he wants to sleep." I said.
And for the first time that day, Kael agreed with something I said, "Alright." He said.
I picked him up, his small body curling into mine as we walked back to ri the car,
By the time we got there, he had already fallen asleep, his soft breathing warming my chest, and I held him tighter.
The drive back to the house Brian is staying is just as fast, and I tucked him into bed inside the room, flicked off the light.
To be sincere, I didn’t want to leave him, just wished the time will stretched long, or better still, stop so I can stay by his side.
But I’ve got to hold on until six months to regain my freedom and has all the time in the world to ourselves.
We got back to the new base sooner after, and just when I was heading inside, expecting him to take me back to the cell, he just tossed a drive i caught on an impulse to me.
"What’s that for?" I asked staring suspiciously at him.
"It contains what will get you completely out of that cell. Give it to Audrey, and once you do, meet me here at 10pm." He said.
