Sacred Flame: His Enemy, His Mate (BL)-Chapter 25: Audrey
Kain Locke
"It has what you need to get out of that cell for good. Give it to Audrey, then meet me here at 10 pm." he said.
And I stared at the flash, "You’re helping me?"
"Can I not?"
"Didn’t sound like you. I mean you agreed with them that I was involved."
"When did you hear me saying that?"
I rolled my eyes, "I wasn’t wearing earbuds when you came into the room I was being questioned about what happened." He even pushed that what were they still waiting for? Like he couldn’t wait for me to be locked up.
He laughed shortly, "Mm. But you seemed to have misunderstood something. I want you everywhere but behind bars. At least what use of you would I have if you were locked up?"
That’s right? Wasn’t I here because he wanted me to involve myself in something that was best known to him.
"Do you really think I did it?" I know it’s pointless asking him, and his opinion doesn’t matter, but, "The pheromones attack. Do you also believe I did it?"
"You were in my bed, remember? Hot, hot, was all you’re saying, but the cell is a good cover up, temporarily. Because..." he trailed off just as quickly.
"Because?" I probe, urging him to keep on talking.
"Someone wants you out of the base, out of here to be precise, and maybe out of this world." he said and my heart skipped a beat.
"Who’s that?" I couldn’t help asking, my heart thumping loudly as I scrutinized my brows.
"My father." Was all he said before turning to leave.
But I grabbed his arm, terminating that thought, "Why? Why would he want me dead?" I asked the fear pricking to my bones,
He stopped, exhaled softly like he was stopping himself from throwing his fist at my face, "Why would you want me to tell you, I’m not your friend remember?"
That’s right.. my limbs softened almost immediately as I released my hold on him.
I could only watch as he walked away, his words still replaying in my head. What the actual fuck?
Anyways... find Audrey, give this to him.
I remember what he said as I stared at the drive, walking into the new base. Maybe I should think more of my situation at this moment, then after it’s solved, I can think about how to stay alive.
Everywhere looked strange, almost confusing,
Not even now, I had to find this ’Audrey,’ someone I didn’t even know. I had no idea what he looked like or where to find him.
Now this is my fault because it would’ve been easier if I’d just asked him who this Audrey is... instead of taking just a drive and now looking around like a lost puppy. But what assurance do I have that he’s going to tell me?
It felt like I was lost in the middle of nowhere as I walked down the hallway. Sneers and cold stares followed me with every step.
Did they all think I did it? Of course,
But why were they so sure I’d do something like that? I was an Omega, just like them. So it didn’t make sense, but who could I explain that to? They were too busy glaring, too caught up in their own ideas to see the truth.
Before they came to drag me back to that cell,
"Hi..." I started, hiding half my face with a palm like I was hurt in one eye, but the Omega I was about to ask the question gave me such an angry look that the words died in my throat just as quickly as it came out.
Turning a corner, I nearly bumped into someone. A tall figure with sharp eyes and a scar that ran down his cheek. I quickly turned sideways, to prevent myself from being recognized.
"Watch it," he snapped before brushing past me, his shoulder hitting mine hard enough to make me stumble.
I didn’t look back. I just kept walking, forcing myself to stay focused. But just then I saw the pink haired Omega from the other day, he’d come to wake me up, and I remember him giving me a warning to not say anything or admit to anything.
So technically... he should be able to offer some help right?
I took a deep breath and walked toward him. He was looking at his communicator, his pink hair falling over his eyes. He didn’t seem to notice me at first, but as I got closer, his shoulders stiffened.
He looked up, his eyes widening as they landed on me. "You got out?"
"Yes... didn’t everyone know that already?"
"Of course not! Kael said to leave you starving in the cell and no one should step down there to help you." he explained.
He must’ve said that mainly because there’s no one left there to feed, after all I’d followed him to visit Brian.
But information about him wasn’t the main reason I was here, and If anything, I’m sure words must’ve gotten to the instructors by now that I was seen in the hallway instead of being down there inside the cell. After all there is surveillance everywhere in the base
, so I decided to go straight to the point.
"I... I’m looking for someone. Audrey. Do you know him or her?"
His expression didn’t change, but his eyes flicked to my hand that held the drive for a split second before he crossed his arms. "Why are you looking for them?"
I clasped my hand tightly around it, "I was told to find them."
"And who told you that?"
I hesitated. I didn’t know if I could trust him, therefore I said, "Someone, so do you know who they are?"
His eyes darkened, and for a moment, I thought he was going to walk away. But then he leaned in, "Why didn’t you just ask that ’someone’ who Audrey was?"
I looked down, feeling stupid. "I didn’t think he’d tell me... and I was in a hurry to get out of there." I answered.
He stared at me, his eyes searching my face. Then, he let out a sigh and pushed off the wall he leaned against, "You’re looking at him."
I blinked. "What?"
"I’m Audrey," he said flatly. "Now, are you going to give me that drive, or are we just going to stand here all day? But gosh! You know just how to waste someone’s time. I’ve been waiting for quite a while you know?" he mumbled with an eye roll.
"You’re really... Audrey?"
He gave me a tired look. "What, did you expect someone taller?"
I smiled faintly, "I was expecting a female..." or maybe a beta,
"Gender discrimination." He rolled his eyes, "Now, hand it over." He stretched his palm forward.
"How do I know you’re really Audrey?" I scanned him with obvious skepticism.
He sighed with exasperation and tapped on his communicator which lit up immediately. Then he started pressing some stuff on the screen, after he was done he showed the screen to me in a way shoving would be the best word to describe the rate at which he did it. "He texted me." He muttered with a dramatic sigh.
I scanned the screen and saw they were really conversing, and Kael’s last message was, just get out of the car, go stand in the end of the hallway, he’ll come find you.
"What’s the thing he asked me to give you?"
He frowned just a little, "A flashdrive! Come on, I didn’t even know he was talking about you! He just said to stay here and collect it! Now hand it over or I won’t take it from you anymore no matter how hard you begged! Gosh, I don’t even want to be here in the first place." He growled and I blinked rapidly, before placing it gently in his palm.
I have to believe him, not like I have any choice.
"Good. You shouldn’t be seen with me right now. Go. Now."
"Where do I go? They’ll jump on me the next second I go back into the hallway." I whispered.
"Well... that’s unavoidable, don’t get captured until you see my signal, and try not to get ripped into pieces by angry Omega’s."
"What...how could I possibly... what’s on that drive anyway?" I changed my questions seeing he was already glaring.
He looked at me, his face unreadable. "Not anything in your concern, Now get out of here before I decide to throw you back into that cell myself."
"Oh.. and.. before going... you know Bella right? The female omega?" I asked, considering the fact that I haven’t seen her.
"The quiet one?" He raised his eyebrows.
Quiet? No Bella is anything but quiet, "Not her... the one i was always with... that’s right, we sat together on the ship, and beside each other on the ride to the hotel."
"Duh! I don’t have my eyes on you all the time so there’s no way I would know... but if she’s the one with you when the room was being distributed, then that’s the same Bella I was talking about."
"Wait.. you don’t mean... that aside, do you have any idea whether she was also affected by the pheromones? Is she safe?" I couldn’t help asking, I haven’t seen her since I woke up which is unlike her, if anything, the Bella I know will dig the earth to find me in that cell so not seeing her baffled me.
"I think she’s on a secret mission with two others just before the party. Anyways... I gotta go."
A secret mission?
Before I could say anything else, he turned and walked away, disappearing down the hall.
Now it made sense why I couldn’t find her in the party no matter how hard I searched.
I just stood there, my heart racing with several questions.
Why was Kael helping me? What was on that drive? Why did he want to see me at 10pm? And why did his father want me dead? But I was yet to think of any reasonable answers when I heard footsteps and people’s voices.
"We saw him walk down this hallway, he must be hiding somewhere around here."
