Chapter 49: He’s mine

Kain Locke

After crazy minutes of driving like we were being chased by some killer robots, he eventually screeched the car to a stop, and I practically threw the door open, stumbling out like my soul had just been ripped from my body. My legs barely held me up as I staggered toward the nearest wall, bracing myself before my stomach gave in.

I heaved, emptying my guts onto the pavement, the world spinning around me and I swore I could still feel the damn car moving.

Although the car would’ve driven itself because it’s an automatic driving car, he chose to do it himself 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

I heard the car door opening, and he stepped out, approaching where I am, and before I could look up,

A bottle of water appeared in my line of sight.

I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand, then looked up to see Kael standing there, holding it out to me.

I frowned, my stomach still twisting. Wondering if he put something in it? Because only that could explain him being nice.

He sighed, like he could read my thoughts as he unscrewed the cap, took a long sip, and then handed it back. "See? It’s safe." He said with an assured smile.

"Thanks." I said, collecting it from him, still eyeing him suspiciously, before finally taking a swing and washing my mouth, spitting it out before taking a sip.

The cold water soothed my burning throat, and somehow calmed my nerves.

Kael walked back to the car without another word.

I was still trying to steady my breathing when he returned, holding two shotguns.

My body tensed as he closed the distance between us. Without hesitation, he grabbed the edge of my suit and lifted it slightly. Before I could react, he tucked one of the guns against my side, securing it in place. His fingers brushed against my skin, and a strange heat crawled up my spine.

"You’re gonna need this," he murmured in a low voice after securing the gun, he teasingly hooks a finger into my waistband, tugging slightly not enough to be inappropriate, but just enough to make my breath hitch.

A smirk follows, his voice dropping to a whisper. "Relax. It’s just a precaution... Unless you want me to hold you closer?"

I swallowed hard, watching as he adjusted the second gun at his own side like this was just another night for him.

Then he met my eyes with a mischievous smirk, "Tonight, you’re my Omega, remember? So behave like it."

And before I could say anything in protest, his hand clamped around my waist as he pointed at the huge, and beautiful building in front of us, "Let’s get inside, we wouldn’t want to be late." He said. And I gritted, already hating my decision for putting up with this.

The second we stepped inside, I knew I didn’t belong here.

This wasn’t just a party. It was a gathering of people who ran the world in ways that didn’t make headlines. The kind of power in this room wasn’t loud. It didn’t need to be announced because it was woven into the way these people carried themselves.

Men in sleek, custom suits, women in designer gowns that probably cost more than what most people made in a year. The scent of their expensive perfume and aged whiskey filled the space, mixing with the faint hum of classical music from the piano being meticulously played by the pianist on the lower stage with a single spotlight on him, even though the place was bright already.

Kael’s grip on my waist was firm but not rough, guiding me like he’d done this a thousand times before.

I leaned in, lowering my voice. "Shouldn’t you at least tell me what the hell I’m walking into?"

His lips twitched, not bothering to glance at me. "You don’t need to know yet."

I pulled back slightly, testing his grip, but he didn’t let go. "The hell I don’t."

"When the time comes, you’ll understand." he answered, finally glancing at me.

I was just about to fire back when a man with dark red hair stepped into our space with a tobacco in his mouth.

"Droco!" He greeted Kael with a wide grin removing the tobacco and killing the light, barely sparing me a glance at first. But then his gaze slid back to me, slower this time as his eyes ran over my face, then my suit as though he was appraising something.

Then, with no shame whatsoever, he leaned in slightly and said to Kael, "He’s a beautiful one... Is he your bitch?" he asked, his hand coming to touch my face,

I stiffened. My hands curled into fists at my sides, but before I could say something that might get me into some sort of trouble, or throw a punch at his nose, Kael caught his hand before it could land on me, the teasing smile getting erased from his face as he stared hard at the man.

"This one’s mine. So you don’t get to touch him!" he answered roughly, his eyes blazing like it was on fire, even his dominant Alpha pheromones seeped out and my eyes went wide immediately.

"I didn’t know..." The man let out a nervous chuckle, like he was thrown back by what Kael had just said, "Didn’t think you’d settle down, I really don’t know since.." His eyes flicked to me again, his eyes straining like he was in some kind of pain as he groaned, pleading with his eyes.

It wasn’t until Kael let him go that he took a step back, his other hand going to cover his now reddened wrist as he winced, now he looked clearly frightened.

I’ve always known Keal to be someone who’s both scary and strong, but I never knew it was to this extent of dominating another Alpha who’s old enough to be his father.

"Come. We’ve got things to discuss." Kael said to him, then he turned to me, "Stay here, don’t go wandering about, I’ll be back soon." He muttered seriously that I want to obey even though it’s against my will.

His hand released from my waist as he started to go, followed by the man who took one final glance at me.

Now what just happened? I’ve got no explanation, so I just stood there staring blankly, and waiting... Even though I’m kind of feeling pressed right now.

I waited for a few more minutes, shifting on my feet, feeling the pressure in my bladder growing unbearable. Damn it. Where the hell was Kael? I scanned the crowd, but he was nowhere in sight.

I couldn’t just stand here and piss myself because he asked me to wait, why do I have to listen to him anyway? It’s not as if I’m obliged to.

With a quiet sigh, I slipped away, moving through the lavish hall until I found the restroom. It was empty, thank god my luck was pretty good today. I quickly did my business, washed my hands, and stepped out.

That’s when I saw a man with dark hair, a few gray in them, he had a few wrinkles on his face too but he didn’t look less powerful. He was standing a few feet away in the hallway, his sharp, yet slightly wrinkled features triggering something in my memory. I knew him. Or at least, I’d seen him before. But where? I can’t remember... it feels so blank.

He glanced in my direction, and I quickly looked away, muttering a low, "Excuse me," as I brushed past, my heart couldn’t stop pounding in my chest in a way that I was unable to stop myself from glancing back, however, it was more like one of those situations when you want to sneak a glance at someone, but they’re also doing the same.

Our eyes locked and at that moment Kael’s words echoed in my head, Don’t wander.

I needed to get back, so I hurried back toward the party, scanning the crowd, my heartbeat picking up as I looked around for Kael, but who could’ve thought my eyes would land on him?

Not Kael. Someone worse. Someone I haven’t seen for the past five years, someone I wanted to avoid as much as I could. The very person I wish I would never see until I’m out of here.

The air left my lungs immediately,

He stood like a king among men, dressed in an immaculate black suit that clung to his tall, powerful frame. His mere presence dominated the space around him, a man whose authority wasn’t just given, it was earned through several bloodshed, chaos and cruelty.

His dark eyes, cold and calculating, flickered across the room like a predator surveying his kingdom. Every movement was deliberate, every glance a silent command, and now I’m seeing it, he had such a close resemblance to Kael, of course he will, he is his father after all. Caspian Draeven.

I couldn’t move.

My body locked up, panic curling in my gut as I felt like I would collapse in the next second.

Then, out of nowhere,

An arm snaked around my waist from behind, pulling me flush against a firm chest. Before I could even react, a warm lips pressed against mine.
