Saintess? Not Anymore! I'd Rather be a Destroyer-Chapter 306 - 243: Paige’s backstory 2
As time went by Paige grew even uglier as different ugly spots appeared on her skin, her granny would always comfort her and say it wasn’t her fault but because her mother had a sickness she too was affected. And her granny would always tell her to have a good heart and people would always like her.
However, society isn’t what it seems. People mocked her for her looks and she has been falsely accused many times just because of how she looks. Society judged her attitude based on her appearance and not her heart.
Paige could do nothing but cry all the time. It seemed that the world just hated her and wanted her to suffer. At least she had her granny who loved her, but she died later on and left Paige alone when she was just 9 years old.
Paige then wandered around looking for food to eat. She passed by a stall that was giving free food to poor children, so Paige decided to go too. But once she went everyone gave her disgusted looks and they even shooed her away not even interested in giving her some of the food.
Paige could only leave in shame as she hung her head low. She had no clothes to wear, no food to eat, and could only bathe alone in the river. When she went hungry she would devour bugs and plants because she had never been taught to hunt.
One day as she searched for plants to eat a group of people wearing expensive clothing passed by, they found Paige, and their faces were immediately filled with disgust from her appearance.
"She can’t be a human right?" A person spoke in a disgusted voice.
"She’s a demon, which human could look so ugly?!" A guy claimed.
"I’m bored so let’s kill it," another guy chuckled.
Paige, hearing their plans to kill her, spirited away in a panic, but before she could get far an arrow was shot at her back. It barely missed her back but it grazed her, causing her to flinch in pain. Unfortunately for her, despite the arrow missing, due to the pain, she closed her eyes and in that moment lost track of her footing, tripping and falling into a river..
She later opened her eyes to see herself at a river bank and a harsh pain could be felt in her back. She crawled from the water onto the land, but since it was getting dark it wasn’t safe. Sat up and looked around, finding an empty temple nearby.
She struggled to get up and walked inside. She looked around but no one was inside, as if it was completely deserted. She entered a huge altar room and saw a giant statue of a beautiful woman, standing on top of a pedestal where the words ’Goddess of Beauty’ was carved.
Paige collapsed before the statue as she wept, "Why was I born ugly? What did I do to deserve this?! Why wasn’t I born pretty like everyone else?" Her face was comparable to the river she had just fallen in as tears continued streaming down her face, "Please if I die I wish I can.... be... pretty...." Paige mumbled as her voice faded in the dark and her heart stopped beating.
*Clink* the sound of a bell could be heard but Paige struggled to open her eyes.
*Clink* the sound could be heard again but this time Paige could slowly open her eyes. She got up as she clenched her head since an unbearable pain permeated through it.
"It’s okay child calm down," a soothing voice spoke out as Paige opened her eyes to see a figure enveloped in the dark, its two distinct eyes, one golden and the other rainbow-colored looking at her with a warm smile.
"Everyone, let’s welcome the new goddess of the humans Paige. The goddess of beauty!" the darkened figure yelled as everyone surrounding Paige yelled praises which shocked her to the core.
She was confused as to why these beings called her the goddess of beauty, wasn’t she ugly? Why were they looking at her as though they were captivated by her looks?
The darkened figure turned to Paige as it pinched her cheeks and smiled.
"I am known as the High god. Welcome. What a lucky child you are. Before you died the former god of the humans chose you to be his replacement. Humans neglected him for centuries worshiping a goddess that never existed, now you have been reborn as the goddess of beauty," The High god was smiling adamantly.
"Me?!!" Paige gasped in shock as she stared at the crowd surrounding her with wide eyes.
"I welcome you to the god realm for this world. You may call me High God, Goddess of beauty Paige," The High god said gently.
Paige raised her hand to see that they were smaller, what’s more, her skin wasn’t ugly like it used to be but rather. It became smoother, softer, and sparkly. She touched her face to feel no cuts and bumps on it but rather smooth brown skin.
"Wondering what you look like?" The High god asked as Paige nodded.
"Let me help you then," the High God answered as in the darkness a mirror appeared and floated towards Paige.
Paige gasped in shock as she witnessed her new look. She had become an extremely beautiful young girl around 6 years old with long pink hair plaited into two pigtails. Her pink eyes were like shiny jewels and her brown skin was not rough or filled with ugly scars but smooth and shiny. Her face was cute and no longer disfigured and her body was perfect. Of all the beautiful people she had seen in her life, none could compare to her now.
Tears streamed down her face as she hugged the High god, even though the High God seemed to be a shadow based on appearances, she was able to interact with it. The High God returned the hug, wrapping its arms around her. All the other gods were mesmerized by the new goddess and gave her a lot of gifts.
