Chapter 382: Chapter 319: Iris surbrdinate 2

[I would probably say her strongest subordinate is Obsidian.] the system replied, its voice like a neutral bell in Aurianna’s mind.

"Could you elaborate?" Aurianna asked aloud.

[Over here?] the system returned.

"Whwre else?" she clarified.

[You sure do trust these mortals.] the system observed, its voice almost sounding amused.

"I’m not stupid, alright? I know whom to trust." Aurianna huffed inwardly, folding her arms.

Zeche leaned forward, eyes glued to the screen that suddenly appeared. "Aurianna, what the hell is that?" he asked, as he felt it had a similar aura to Aurianna’s.

The system’s display shifted. [Nice to meet you all. I’m Aurianna’s guardian, S.] The words glowed across the screen.

"Nice to meet you, Mr. S!" Elena chirped, waving at the static text as if it were a person.

[So then, Aurianna, this is Obsidian, Iris’s strongest surbrdinate.] The screen changed. A video feed played: a young-looking man standing beside Iris. He was shorter than Aurianna expected, with bright blue eyes that seemed to glow, dark black hair, skin the color of polished ebony, and a plain suit. And he looked fit as well.

Aurianna snorted, the laugh bubbling up before she could stop it. "That shorty?" she stated pointing at him.

[That ’shorty’ is actually the third strongest across all known dimensions. As for multiverses, I cannot be certain.] the system said bluntly.

Peter leaned forward, curiosity itching at him. Even though he was quite surprised by its appearance, it seemed to know a lot so he decided to take his chances and ask. "Hey Mr. S, could you show us his actual skills?"

[Why must I? It’s not as if Aurianna could ever hope to fight him.] the system replied, almost dismissive.

"Damn, that’s harsh," Aurianna muttered, hand on her chest as she felt offended.

[I am merely stating facts.] the system added.

"Is he really that strong?" Aurianna asked.

[The Regals are fortunate that he chooses not to interfere. He prefers to be a spectator.] the system replied.

"Regals?" Elena interrupted, brow furrowed. "What are Regals?"

Kiana tapped on Elena’s shoulder and stated calmly, "I’ll explain later."

Zeche rubbed his chin, skeptical. "It’s hard to judge how powerful he is without proof."

[Fine then.] The system obliged and a video begun to play.

Obsidian stood amid a space of stars and planets, beside Iris as the corpses of shattered Regals were scattered around them.

"I guess there’s no hope for this universe, Regals have already destroyed most of it, leaving empty planets and just their race," he said softly. The voice was gentler than Aurianna had pictured.

"Master Iris, shall I destroy this place?" Obsidian asked with a smile.

"Do as you wish. You don’t need my permission," Iris replied coldly.

Obsidian’s smile turned bright, almost boyish. "I’ll take that as a yes." He snapped his fingers. Stars immediately vanished. All the galaxies in the universe vanished, leaving behind an empty space.

Peter’s brows creased. "With just a snap? That’s insane." His smile was shaky, but he was also impressed. ’To think more beings outside our planet existed apart from heroes. And they all have different abilities. I was right to stick with Aurianna,’ he thought before glancing at Aurianna who had a serious expression.

A grin her face, and, unexpectedly, tears of joy sprang to her eyes. "I’m so glad my big sister is my big sister!!" Aurianna burst out happily.

Kiana’s brow creased. "She won’t come to our world, right?" she asked.

[Obviously not. As long as Aurianna is here, Iris likely won’t interfere.] the system reassured.

Batholem scoffed. "But she did appear in that space."

[Because Aurianna called her.] the system replied simply.

Peter nodded. "Oh yeah, I remember now."

Aurianna rubbed her nose, smug and small at once. "Heh. My sister loves me so much that even when I call her name a few times she appears."

Juvin’s voice trembled as he threw out a question. "So if Aurianna dies, ?"

[Not possible. You underestimate Iris’s curse. Aurianna will not die... except by one particular spell.] the system said.

Aurianna blinked, recognition flaring across her face. "Oh. That one."

"Which one?" Kiana asked curiously.

Aurianna winked, mischievous and secretive. "Family secret."

[Now then, I shall take my leave. Enjoy your evening.] the system stated and the holographic display fading until the room looked like nothing more than ten friends seated and a table full of food.

"Thank you, Mr. S!" Elena waved at the empty air as politely as if she were saying goodbye to a visiting uncle.

Shuwi leaned forward, squinting. "So... what exactly is he? A program? A person? A ghost?"

"See those screens that show your levels?" she asked.

"Yeah?"

"He does that for me." She shrugged.

Peter tried to wrap his head around it. "So, like a system?"

"Yeah." Aurianna nodded.

Zeche stated. "You know most people can’t see those displays, right? That’s why they rely on objects to help them read their stats."

"I’m aware." Aurianna stated nodding, as she really didn’t understand that he meant most of them couldn’t see their own display screen without the help of a display object.

Zeche returned to his food. "Alright then."

Elena leaned in, eyes sparkling. "That’s so cool. Does he do anything else?"

"Mostly appearing invisible, talking with me, showing my stats," Aurianna said with a casual shrug.

Elena’s excitement deflated a little. "He actually sounds kind of... useless."

"Depends," Aurianna said but in a fond way. "He’s useless in front of people, but he really helped me grow."

Peter folded his hands, sincere. "Thanks, Aurianna."

She blinked, puzzled. "For what?"

"For being honest. For not hiding things, like the trust you have in us," he said. "That means a lot."

Aurianna’s expression hardened in an instant. "I see no reason to hide it. After all, I trust you. And if you betray that trust, I’ll kill you. I’m not joking." she warned with cold looking eyes.

Kiana sighed. "I almost thought she changed, but I guess she’s still the same."

Aurianna’s gaze snapped to her, eyes narrow and dangerous. "What does that mean?" she demanded.

Kiana’s shoulders lifted in a small, defeated shrug. "Nothing. Ignore me." She avoided Aurianna’s stare.
