Seeing the other cultivators suddenly afraid of him, Ru Yunlan was dumbfounded. They treated him like a killer on loose. "A pleasant evening, Lord Reaper. Have you finally come to take this monk’s life? If so then I am ready," said the last target of his, Ru Yunlan’s mission.
The Death God responded to his question, {This is your mission. You have to make your own decision for it, Yunlan.}
Ru Yunlan once again looked through the monk’s memories and more thoroughly this time. He saw that the monk is talented and had the world in mind. But while he is saying to the people of the world, the evil had massacred his loved ones. In anger he had killed all of the evil and accidentally killed those who were only there because they were captured. In short, he had accidentally killed the innocent which made him gain karma. Knowing this the monk went on a journey, saving those that can be saved and killing those that deserve death. As if he was atoning, he would save people no matter what consequences and almost died multiple times over because of his.
His inner demons would try to destroy him every time he broke through and he would suffer a great deal over it. He had always been waiting for death. So when he heard about the reaper who can see through one’s soul, he was so sure that this person would kill a sinner like himself.
Ru Yunlan looked at the smiling monk, looking so gentle and holy yet at the same time tired and depressed. He is not even a true god yet and in his eyes this person just made a mistake yet not like a sinner like those evil in their cores. However, the fact that he had killed the innocent cannot be erased as well.
He can only give the man a choice. "There is always a balance for everything. A good for the evil. Water for the fire. Day for the night. Happiness for sadness. You were a good person, you made a mistake and killed the innocent. But you have also saved the lives of many others. Your atonement has made it cancel out your sins. It might look unfair for the innocent you have killed, killing you would also be unfair for the people you have saved."
The monk’s expression twitches under Ru Yunlan’s words and he can barely keep his smile going. However, he continued to listen to the words of the reaper.
Ru Yunlan said, "I can give you three choices. You can choose one."
"Since everything started because of your cultivation. To end everything, I will cripple you and you will no longer be able to cultivate in your life. You will become a mortal and slowly die as one. Your sins and merits will cancel out and you would still be reincarnated with a new life after death."
The monk doesn’t seem to be too keen on this choice. He had cultivated all his life and even left his loved ones for this alone. It is what saved him and saved the people he wanted to save. For him, without it he is nothing. Seeing him like this, Ru Yunlan continued to give the other choices.
He said, "The second choice is that I will kill you as you wish. But it would depend on the decisions of those administrators of the afterlife whether you shall be reincarnated or not. That is no longer under my jurisdiction as I already gave you what you wish for which is death."
"What is the last choice?" The monk asked.
Ru Yunlan said, "You will sign a contract with me. Your life will be in my hands and I will let you go. You can continue doing as you wish but I will observe your actions. Once the balance in you fell on the evil side, I will kill you. Or once you atoned everything and all your karmas cancels out becoming a real buddha then you shall be freed."
"You are not yet a god. How can you oversee me after signing the contract?" The Monk asked.
Ru Yunlan said, "You were my last trial target for my mission. After I am done with you that will be the day I will ascend as a true god. So the contract will be legitimate when that time comes."
The monk was stunned for a moment and finally gave a thought to the three choices the reaper had given him. He didn’t want to be crippled but he also didn’t fear death. What he fears that all his hard work in this life will become nothing in the end. In the end, the monk made a choice and clasped his hand before the Reaper.
The monk said, "This humble monk Xu Jin wishes to sign a contract with the reaper."
Ru Yunlan nodded his head and said, "Good. Come follow me. This is not the right place for me to ascend. I will give you the contract once I have done my ascension."
The monk seems a bit confused by still following Ru Yunlan. They headed towards the forest area where the Moon Goddess and everyone else were staying. They took a whole day to reach the location. The moment Ru Yunlan removed his cloak the monk was surprised to see that the reaper is so young. While feeling bewildered, the monk Xu Jin can only follow the reaper to pass through the barrier. The next moment he opened his eyes, what he thought he would never see in his life would appear before him. The existence of a true god.
The Wind Sword God Xiao Muen was the first one to notice his nephew’s return together with Han Yoonjun as they were sparring while the ladies were all busy at the kitchen.
