Single Spell Sorcerer-Chapter 107: Tests
Chapter 107: Tests
"That’s a new look for you," Cici said with a hint of surprise to her tone when Jax wore the armor out of nowhere once they entered the forest. "When did you get the armor made?"
"The very next day I arrived here," Jax answered. "So 5 days ago."
"That’s nice-looking armor too," Sho said, walking up to Jax to feel the material. "Why does it feel so rigid? What material is this?"
"Black Lead," Jax answered.
"Huh?" Sho’s eyes narrowed. "Isn’t that metal supposed to be extremely heavy? How heavy is this armor?"
"About 200 slimes."
The amount caused a number of shocked expressions to appear on the faces of everyone there.
"Wait, wait, wait. 200 slimes? Are you sure?" Gram asked.
"Yes," Jax answered.
"But, why?" he asked. "Are you trying to act as the Defense of the group? We already have Sho right here."
"I actually had this made before I thought I would be joining any party. I had this made for my own safety more than anything since I was so used to fighting all alone," he said.
"That may be," Gram said. "But should you wear it right now? You are our main melee Damager, remember?"
"Oh, I can fight," Jax said. "I have the Featherweight Armor skill, so this is quite light for me when I use the skill."
"Featherweight armor?" Sho asked, an excited look appearing on his face. "How did you get it? How long have you had it?"
"I recently did," Jax said. "It’s been about a week or two. Why?"
"I want to learn it," Sho said. "Please, teach it to me. It will come incredibly handy for me."
Jax thought for a moment and nodded. "Sure. It’ll cost you though," he said with a slight laugh.
"I’ll pay 50 stones," the man said.
"50? I was only going to ask for 20. The same price that Gram had for me."
"You’ll do it for 20?" Sho asked. "Thank you. Thank you so much."
Jax smiled. "Once you learn the technique, how about getting an armor like my own made for you?"
"I might now," Sho said. "Although, I’ve heard Black Lead is notoriously difficult to work with."
"That’s alright," Jax said. "I’ll introduce you to my blacksmith. She’ll make you great armor."
They talked as they walked, searching for new monsters to kill. They found one not long after, a large Venomwing Hawk. It was a purple hawk, twice as large as a regular one, that flew high in the sky and came down to attack with its strong wings.
Anyone hit had a chance of getting poisoned, which was a rather bad situation.
But thanks to Jax’s skill, they had been coasting by these challenges as a single bind with his skill was enough to immobilize most beasts.
Jax wanted to test his armor, but he didn’t want to get poisoned just yet, so he tested out his new axe first.
The purple hawk fell to the ground in a crash as its wings were fully tied with threads. Jax casually walked over to it and raised his axe, activating the spell within it.
Twin Strike.
As the axe fell, an afterimage was left behind that followed the axe’s movement just a sliver of a second afterward. When Jax struck the beast’s neck, the axe dug halfway in. Then, the afterimage connected, and Jax felt the same force of his axe being swung strike the bird once again.
The axe didn’t move an inch, but somehow the image of it had cut the rest of the bird’s neck, cleaving it clean off.
Jax pulled back the axe in surprise. He had known what the spell would do, but never could he have imagined that it would work so interestingly.
A few of the others asked him what that was, since they hadn’t seen him use it before. So Jax simply told them that it was a new spell he had learned recently. frёewebnoѵēl.com
Compared to his binding threads, Twin Strike was more of a Warrior’s spell, so they had no reason to not trust him.
With the bird dead, Jax tore through its wings to find the tiny venom nodules hidden in its wings, and plucked some of its tail feathers to take with him.
He was so used to doing what he did now that it didn’t even take him a minute to gather the items.
"Let’s go."
Jax wasn’t just focused on hunting. He tried his best to find herbs as well, but he had a hard time recognizing any. Most of the herbs in this area were either too green and easily dismissible, or already taken by some other gatherers.
Jax would have to likely try harder to find some.
He did find one flower on the way with tiny petals and long hanging stamens, which he remembered to be something that helped with muscle ache if it was turned into a paste and applied on one’s back.
He plucked the flower and kept it away, continuing along on the hunt.
Then, they found the next monster, which Jax was happy to find.
The Seven-Crowned Treant was just the type of beast he wanted. Something that hit hard, which he could test his armor against.
He let the others know what he was doing, just so they weren’t caught unaware. Just to be safe, however, he decided to test it once 6 of its branches were cut off.
When only one remained, Sho moved back, letting Jax take the hit.
Jax did everything he could to protect himself and put up his two arms, crossing them before his chest.
The treant smashed its vines into his body, flinging him far away. Jax struck a tree before falling down. He got up with a slight ache, and by that time, the treant was dealt with.
"Are you okay?" Sho asked with a worried look.
"More or less," Jax said with a slight grunt.
"How was the armor?" he asked.
"Perfect," he said as he rubbed the back of his head. "But I might need more protection before I try something like this again."
