Single Spell Sorcerer-Chapter 80: Resurrection
Chapter 80: Resurrection
Jax used the Earth elemental threads, trying to understand how they could be used. The main thing he could think of to use it at the moment was just as a stronger thread to wrap others with it.
It would be much more difficult for people to just get out of the threads.
Jax kept the last Earth stone, intending to sell it elsewhere. It would bring him a bit of money after all.
"Do you think I should use the Mud stones right away, or should I wait until I gather more?" Jax asked. He only had 3 stones for now, but he was certain he would need at least 5 if not more to unlock the Mud elemental threads.
"Use them now. The progress to unlocking your elemental threads should be percentage-based," Gemma said. "Meaning if you need 6 Mud stones to unlock the Mud threads, and you use the 3 now, you will be halfway done. So later in the future when you will have improved and may need 20 even, since you’re already halfway done, you might only end up needing 10."
The explanation made sense to Jax, so he quickly began using up the Mud stones as well.
He used it all up a while later, at which point he felt too tired to do anything else. He had been fully healed, so he was fine physically, but mentally he was still very fatigued.
He just wanted to rest and think through everything that had happened and everything that he was going to do.
The thought of what was going to happen later tonight kept him from resting properly. He fidgeted around the bed, trying to get those thoughts out of his mind for now.
He let his mind wander in some other direction and remembered something that he had forgotten until now.
"Gemma, are there human monsters in the train?" he asked.
"Human monster?" Gemma asked. "I don’t believe so. There are humanoid monsters, but none that are fully human. You are usually able to tell the difference between a monster and a human."
Jax frowned, trying to think back to the first boss he had tried to steal from those two fighters. One had ended up dying because of him, but part of the reason had also been because the wounded man had appeared out of nowhere and started attacking him.
"Can someone who has died be reborn in the train?" he asked.
"Reborn? I suppose. In a way, everyone is reborn when they come to the train because their physical body is stripped away, keeping only their soul, which is put into a new body."
Jax narrowed his eyes. "What about inside the train? Can someone who has died here be given a new body?"
"That would be resurrection, and that is possible," Gemma said. "But it is incredibly difficult to do since resources that allow someone to resurrect others are incredibly difficult to find. In fact, I can’t even tell you any more about them except that resources for resurrections do exist."
Jax’s mind went to wonder. "Could the man that died in the Dead Woods have somehow been resurrected?" he asked. "He fought me inside the maze."
"He could have," Gemma said. "However, resurrection heals one of all wounds and scars. It’s practically a new body after all. And from what I remember, that old man was wounded."
Jax nodded. "So not resurrection," he thought. "Could he be a monster created by a field?"
"I do not know," Gemma said. "Unless someone got rid of his features that made it clear he was a monster, I don’t see him being a monster."
"I didn’t see any obvious marks of such things happening," Jax said. "But then, how could a dead man be walking?"
"Well, there are a few possibilities. You might have just mistakenly believed him to have died back then."
"His head was split open."
"Right..." Gemma said. "He could be a clone."
"With the same torture marks?"
"You could be cursed to have to fight him somehow."
"Cursed?" Jax’s eyes widened. "How would I know if I’m cursed?"
"It will show up in Restrictions."
Jax quickly checked the category, but there was nothing there at all. "Nope, not that."
"Well, I don’t know then," Gemma said. "I would have to look up all the possibilities, and I don’t want to waste such a long time."
Jax looked at the floating wisp of light. "You’re my helper, aren’t you?" he asked. "Can’t you do that for me?"
Gemma sighed. "Fine, I’ll do it later tonight. I’m not going to stay in this room anyway when you start... fighting."
The exciting thoughts returned to plague Jax all over again.
He did the best he could to keep himself from constantly thinking about tonight. After a while, he decided to go have his meal. The sun had already set in the sky, which told Jax that his window was facing toward the south.
Arriving at the tavern floor, Jax stayed around while the meal was prepared in the kitchen. The owner of the tavern, Serin, walked over to him with the food.
What was prepared for him was a thick piece of roasted meat with gravy all over it. A dollop of mashed potato was to the side, along with some chopped carrot and cucumber. A sort of thick soup was to the side, along with a glass of milky-white wine.
Jax was excited to get into it, but the old woman stayed by his side, staring at him.
"Yes?" Jax asked.
"Will you be needing any accompaniment tonight?" the woman asked.
Jax did his best to stop himself from blushing and nodded. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
The woman grinned. "Any of the serving ladies are available. You may choose one whenever you like. They’ll come to your room an hour or so later."
Jax looked around, trying to keep his beating heart from bursting through his chest. He noticed one of the serving girls with darker hair that seemed pretty.
"That one," he said.
The older woman saw and nodded. "That will be 5 stones."
