Sold to the Capo-Chapter 118: TOO MANY PROBLEMS AT ONCE
ADRIANA’S POV
"Well?" I urged seeing that he wasn’t ready to talk.
He shrugged and leaned back, avoiding my gaze suddenly. "I’m sure you get the main thing here, hm?"
I did understand that he said that Henry had betrayed the family but...how? Henry wasn’t that sort of person, was he?
"He was working for my father" Vincenzo began, his tone hard. "Feeding him information, feeding him lies"
I blinked at that. "Lies?" I asked to be sure of what I had heard.
He nodded, his nails digging into the chair. "We figured that out a little too late when he had already planted a seed of doubt into my father and my father had acted on it..."
I tried to piece it together. "Oh... That was when Master LaRosa came over to threaten you..." I muttered.
There was a knock on the door that made Vincenzo pause before sighing heavily. "Come in" he called out.
The door was pushed open and Salvatore walked in, a tired expression on his face. "Adriana..." He gave me a tight smile as soon as he saw me. "Why am I not surprised that the rumors of you being at the house was true? I knew that I couldn’t trust you all alone and here, you just proved me right" He didn’t sound angry, just tired.
"I couldn’t just sit back" I raised my chin, looking him over. My gaze rested on the bandage around his nose and my eyes furrowed. "What the hell happened to you?" I asked, confusion in my tone.
Salvatore raised a hand to his nose and his eyes hardened. "I hit it on something" He said blankly.
That looked really bad. I stood up and went to him, peering closely at it. "That looks pretty bad, what did you hit it on?" I asked, concerned.
"My fist" Vincenzo offered, his tone bland and devoid of any emotion.
I froze instinctively at that and my eyes widened slightly. "Why would you...?" I turned around to look at Vincenzo, confusion in my gaze.
"Should have been more than what I did..." Vincenzo pushed himself off the chair, his hands finding it’s way into his pockets.
It clicked almost immediately... Oh...
One look at Salvatore and the tiny nod he gave me told me everything I needed to know.
At least he didn’t kill him.
"Okay, I kinda understand why you were mad" I muttered, taking a step away from Salvatore who simply looked over at Vincenzo with an expectant glint in his eyes.
"I’d like to speak to you about the search, Don Enzo" He said, his chin raised high.
Man, he looked at serious as hell right now as it was.
Vincenzo waved a hand dismissively. "Come back in a few minutes" He instructed and Salvatore left the house after nodding at me one last time in acknowledgement.
As soon as the door closed, I felt Vincenzo’s arms circle around my waist from behind, tugging me back so I was pressed flush against him as he leaned down to my neck. "Are you going to scold me, Tesoro?" He whispered into my neck, his hand rubbing gentle circles.
I felt the familiar tingle between my legs but I ignored the aching feeling and instead focused on his voice rather than on the impulsive need to just grind against him. "No, I totally get it if you’re mad at him... I was mad about it too" I muttered, sighing in content when he splayed his palm flat against my lower back.
He stiffened behind me at my wordsㅡthe action so brief that I thought I was imagining it but I knew it was thereㅡ then he relaxed even though tension still hung in the air. "Good, I’d not want to ever disappoint you..." He whispered instead and I felt my heart warm at his words.
Gods, this man.
"Now why don’t we go back to the talk about Henry? I still wanna know what happened because... It’s all so shocking and I’m really trying to fathom how that was possible" My breath hitched as I felt him nibble at my skin, a little harder than usual.
He hummed against my skin, the vibration almost making me moan. "Why don’t we first talk about the fact that you just unconsciously mentioned that you knew about Salvatore" He asked, his tone hard yet his touch was light and insistent.
I froze at that, knowing that I had sold myself out. There was no hiding it anymore. "I found out when I was in Costa Rica and look, I know I should have told you but I swore to him tㅡ"
"Don’t" The sharp tone he used immediately made me keep quiet and he sighed, pulling away and turning me around so I could look at him. "I didn’t mean to shout at you, it’s just that... It was really hard for me to find out that he was against me at some point because I did trust him and then he broke it so hearing you say you knew... I snapped... I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to snap at you just now" He wiped his face with his hands and his expression was truly apologetic.
I didn’t mind it, he was only human after all, he was entitled to his own emotions and opinions and I’d be mad if he knew something that important and knew that it would affect me negatively yet he chose to keep it away from me.
"You don’t have to apologize for anything" I said, placing my hand over his. "I totally get it and I’m sorry that I kept it away from you but you also know that I couldn’t reach out to you and all apart from the fact that I wanted him to be the one to tell you himself" I told him, my voice soft.
He nodded, cupping my face slightly before leaning in and pressing a quick but firm kiss to my lips. "I love you"
Three words but my heart fluttered and I thought my knees buckled by how weak his voice sounded.
"I love you too" I said back. The words came so easy, I felt more used to saying it to him now unlike before when I used to wonder how his reaction would be to it, wondering if I’d only end up disgracing myself but thankfully, now I knew and I fucking loved it.
"What was Salvatore saying anyways?" I asked him, changing the subject as I looked away from him.
He pulled away as he ran a hand through his thick hair. I wanted to run my hands through it so bad especially after last night, I wanted to thread my fingers through that beautiful hair again... Shit.
"I don’t thㅡ" He began, ready to dismiss my questions but I was quick to stop him.
"Don’t lie to me, Vincenzo" I raised a brow.
A conflicted look crossed his face and he shrugged before looking at me with a blank look. "We’re looking for someone. He suddenly just disappeared" He informed.
My heart skipped a beat. Whoever they were looking for had to be really important. "Who is it?" I couldn’t help but ask.
Vincenzo sighed, still looking hesitant but after seeing the serious look on my face, he sighed. "It’s Michael"
A name. Just a name yet the effect it had on me was palpable, I frowned, almost immediately, panic settling in my bones. What?
"Michael?" I asked to be sure of what I was hearing.
First, Henry now Micheal?
Vincenzo nodded and I gasped. "He couldn’t have... done anything bad right? He was the one that helped me get here, he was the one that covered for me and told me everything I needed to do to help..." I was rambling on, not even sure why I was defending the man.
I barely knew him as it was.
The feeling of Vincenzo gripping my shoulder jolted me back to reality and I looked back at him. "You don’t think he did, right?"
His gaze was searching. "No, no I don’t" He whispered, looking at me deeply.
I nodded, blinking rapidly as I did so. "Okay, he must have snuck away for a good reason, just make sure the Haven is okay, I should get through to Hale and Grace to make sure they’re fine" I said, stepping back.
Vincenzo didn’t seem to want to let go, his hands lifted slightly to hold me again but then he stopped and instead, smiled even though the smile was anything but real. "Sure, call them, make sure no one hears you, you can go back upstairs. I’ll deal with Don Luca, hm? He’s been a pain in the ass for long, I’ll send the details to him and we’ll find a way to get where Micheal is as well as why he left without saying shit" He explained, not missing a word.
After he finished talking, I nodded and watched him leave the house, shutting the door behind him and I walked back to the stairs, pulling my phone from out of my pocket. I had left the phone on silent all morning... I wouldn’t be surprised to see a message from Hale as he still had his phone.
The message was there but the contents was what made my heart skip a beat.
"Who’s Henry? He’s with Grace"
