Sold to the Capo-Chapter 119: WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO GRACE?
ADRIANA’S POV
My jaw was quick to drop and my eyes flickered over the message again before I gasped.
Holy shit.
My fingers trembled slightly as I stared at the message.
"Who’s Henry? He’s with Grace."
I swallowed hard. This wasn’t possible. This couldn’t be possible.
Henry? The same Henry who had betrayed Vincenzo? The same man who had been feeding lies to Don Lorenzo, twisting information to suit his own agenda? The same Henry who I was still trying to believe was able to do that? That Henry was now with Grace? Oh fuck, Grace was probably not aware that he was the traitor, she would probably trust him. Shit shit shit!
A cold shiver ran down my spine as my mind raced with worst-case scenarios.
I immediately dialed Hale’s number, pressing the phone tightly to my ear as I rushed up the stairs to my room.
It rang once.
Twice.
Three times.
"Come on, Hale. Pick up," I muttered under my breath as I flung open the door to my room.
Finally, the line connected.
"Adriana? Did you see my text?" Hale’s voice came through, sounding hushed but urgent.
"What the hell do you mean Henry is with Grace? Where? How? He’s the fucking traitor! He’s not a friend!" My words came out in a sharp whisper, my heart pounding so hard I could hear it in my ears.
Hale exhaled sharply. "I don’t know, Adriana. Grace went out to get air from the room, and when she came back, she wasn’t alone. Some guy—tall, blue eyes, real fucking confident—just walked in with her like he owned the place. I couldn’t believe that she had even brought someone into the casino talk more of the room but she said he was already in the casino and was here for us"
I closed my eyes, inhaling deeply to steady myself. "What did Grace say about him?"
"She said he was a ’friend.’ But something’s off. He’s been saying he works for Don Enzo but I would have expected that Don Enzo would have come himself or sent you at least. The man was asking of you also and seemed pretty disappointed when he found out you were not here at the casino. I figured that you had told him about the casino and he left with Grace after she had said you wanted her to do something with Henry. I’ve been trying to reach you since."
My stomach twisted into knots. Henry was looking for me. Not the legder. Me.
He was with Grace.
"Did you tell him anything?" I asked, my grip tightening on the phone.
"Of course not," Hale snapped. "I’m not an idiot. But Grace is acting weird, Adriana. Like... too comfortable around him. Either she doesn’t know what he’s capable of, or she does and doesn’t care. They left about an hour ago and she took the ledger with her"
I clenched my jaw. I had trusted Grace, but if she was willingly bringing a known traitor into our space, I had to consider the possibility that she wasn’t as innocent as I thought. Was it possible that she knew that Henry was the traitor but had acted oblivious to make us lower our guard?
"Where are you now?" I asked.
"Following them. Keeping an eye on them. Making sure the ledger gets to where it’s supposed to get to and not intercepted by the enemy on the way."
I ran a hand through my hair, pacing the room. "Listen to me carefully. Don’t engage. Don’t make yourself known and just keep an eye on them. Keep a low profile until I figure out what to do."
"You need to get here fast," Hale said, his voice dropping to a whisper. "Because if this guy is who you say he is, we’re already in deep shit."
Before I could respond, there was a knock at my door.
I turned sharply, my pulse spiking.
"Adriana," Vincenzo’s deep voice came through.
I hesitated for half a second before saying into the phone, "I’ll call you back. Stay alert."
I ended the call and shoved my phone into my pocket, quickly schooling my expression before opening the door.
Vincenzo stood there, his face unreadable, though there was something in his eyes—something dark, a resigned look warred with the expression.
"You look like you just saw a ghost," he noted, stepping inside.
I shut the door behind him, crossing my arms. "It’s worse. Just... some unexpected news."
His sharp gaze lingered on my face, as if dissecting my every move. "Very important."
I exhaled, turning away from him. "It’s Henry. He’s with Grace. And grace is with the ledger. She left without waiting for your men and she fucking left with Henry and Hale couldn’t stop them"
Silence.
A thick, suffocating silence.
When I turned back around, Vincenzo’s entire demeanor had shifted. His jaw was clenched so tightly I could see the muscles twitching, his hands curled into fists.
"Say that again." His voice was low, dangerously low.
I swallowed. "Henry. He is with Grace."
Vincenzo’s expression darkened into something lethal, something terrifying.
"Where?"
I hesitated, knowing what would happen the second I gave him an exact location.
"Adriana." His voice was a warning now, his patience razor-thin.
I sighed. "I don’t know where exactly but they’re on the path to the Lucien for the exchange, Grace must think that we had sent Henry to take her there since we couldn’t make it."
He turned away, pulling out his phone as he strode toward the door.
"Wait," I said quickly, stepping in front of him. "You can’t just storm there."
His eyes locked onto mine. "The fuck I can’t. That bastard betrayed me, betrayed the family. And now he’s trying to get to the ledger first? You really think I’m going to let that slide? If he gets it, our entire plan is ruined"
I grabbed his arm. "Think for a second, Vincenzo. What if this is a trap? What if Grace isn’t actually with the ledger?"
He stilled, considering my words.
"Just let me go first," I urged. "I can get close to them without raising suspicion. If Henry is planning something, I need to know what it is before we make a move."
Vincenzo’s fingers flexed at his sides, his breathing sharp. "And if he tries something?"
I offered a cold smile. "Then I put a bullet in his skull."
His gaze burned into mine, as if weighing whether he could trust me with this. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, he exhaled and nodded.
"Fine. But you’re not going alone. I’ll have Salvatore and a few of my men nearby. If anything feels off, you get out of there immediately. Understood?"
I nodded. "Understood."
Without another word, Vincenzo turned and left, barking orders into his phone as he disappeared down the hall.
I took a deep breath, steadying myself.
First I needed to get to the casino to make sure that Grace was indeed with the ledger so that I’d know the damage done and if it was reversible. If she wasn’t with the ledger then we weren’t at much risk but if she was with the ledger then we had played right into their hands.
By the time I arrived, the sun had already begun its descent, casting long shadows over the large building.
I parked a block away, slipping out of the car and making my way toward the entrance. My pulse was steady, my movements casual—but my mind was racing.
I pushed open the door and stepped inside.
The moment I did, all eyes turned to me.
Ignoring them all, I wove through the crowd, my face down to shield myself from others as I made my way to the room where they were.
As soon as I got to the door, I pushed it open and walked in to see that it was empty and I quickly locked the door behind and looked around the small room.
Okay, I needed to check for the ledger first. I had sold it to Lucien but I had yet to give it to him yet; that was supposed to be done today and now this...
With a sigh, I went to the small case in the cupboard and I squatted heavily. Please be there.
With a silent prayer, I finally put in the code for the case which only Grace and I knew and then the cover sprang open.
My heart seemed to skip a beat at the sight and I grabbed my phone from my pocket, quickly dialling Vincenzo’s number.
In a few rings, he picked up the call, the muffled sound of voices in the back ground. "Yeah, I’m already on the way and I’m tracking Hale’s phone and they are taking a detour to a different place. Henry’s goal isn’t Lucien which means... She’s not with the ledger, is she?" He asked, not missing a beat.
I looked back at the open case before replying to him. "Positive. The ledger is still here and there’s no trap here"
Which left the question of...what would they do to Grace now?
