Sold to the Capo-Chapter 24: A KISS
ADRIANA’S POV
I looked up at the clock for the umpteenth time in two minutes.
Damn it.
It was almost 8 pm and he had been gone for 4 whole hours, I had spotted vehicles coming back into the mansion from the windows but I didn’t know if he was in one of them and apparently, I wasn’t allowed to leave the fucking house until he got back.
Believe me, I did everything to get Gio to budge from the door but the man looked ready to just put a bullet in my skull so I had just crawled back up to the room to pace about thinking.
It was probably the first time I had seen Vincenzo that agitated about something and if it was serious enough to cause havoc, maybe I could use the situation to my advantage.
First I needed to know what had happened, damn it!
My phone on the bedside table rang and I rushed to it, grabbing it and putting it to my ear.
"Adriana?" A familiar voice on the other end spoke.
Valentina.
"Oh thank fuck, what the hell is happening?" I crouched beside the table, waiting for her to reply, my voice nothing more than a hushed whisper.
"There’s just been some minor difficulties," She said trying to downplay the situation.
Why wouldn’t anyone tell me? Okay right, I wasn’t exactly one of them.
"Oh c’mon, Val. Please. I thought we were over this and whose number is this? A Private number?" I asked, looking back at the ID.
I heard a man grunt something on the other end and her whispering something that sounded like an insult back at the person. "Yeah, my phone isn’t with me and I needed to make sure you were alright so I had to use someone else’s phone" She explained.
"Where is Vincenzo anyway?" I asked, my palms sweaty as I had begun to devise ways to use this to my advantage.
There was a brief silence. "I’m afraid I can’t answer that. I’ll be in the mansion in the morning, try not to get killed before then"
"Get killed?" Her statement alone was enough to send me in a fit.
"As much as I admire your feisty attitude at times, don’t try it if he comes home. He’ll be out for blood, hope he doesn’t draw yours" Her tone was surprisingly calm but I could feel my heart almost thudding out of my rib cage.
I still held my phone to my ear even after hearing the dial click.
I gazed at the glass window, I was hoping to make a drop from the window using the dark as a cover and maneuver my way as far as I got but now as I gazed at the large expanse before me, I chilled immediately.
Nope, I wouldn’t succeed, I’d end up with a slug in my back as soon as I tried that.
"He’s out for blood" My eyes were wide as I recalled my conversation with Val. Fuck.
As I stared out the window, my legs bouncing off their own accord on the floorboard, I suddenly realized that the door knob was being turned.
I froze in place and slowly craned my neck back to see him standing at the door, his face tight and his body tense and filled with anger.
Oh shit.
"You just left me at tㅡ" I quickly tried to look for a topic to make his gaze dart away from mine for a moment.
"Shut up" he ordered as he stepped further into the room, the door shutting behind him.
I knew I should have gone somewhere else in the house and not here.
"So what happened at the Gamma Haven?" I forced myself to ask ignoring the fact that he was staring me down with a bland look different from the bored look he usually gave me when he bothered.
"Don’t even ask, Tesoro" He growled, his face tightening even more.
Noted. Shut your big mouth or I’d never make it out of this place alive in time to find my father. That was all that mattered. My father. Not these people.
"Well you should get a shower, you reek of.... I don’t even know whaㅡ" I tried to dismiss the conversation.
"Blood" he offered and I froze at his words.
I wanted to gag but I held it in, knowing his gaze was still fixed on me. He was waiting for a reaction and I refused to be the one to feed it to him.
"That’s nice" I squeaked even as I turned away, my lips trembling as I looked at the wall, only now noticing how beautiful the bare walls were.
"Dead. Does it bother you, Tesoro?" He hissed from behind me. "Do you feel an ounce of what I feel right now?"
He was speaking in parables but every word, every statement contained a strong feeling of anger, and hatred but what I didn’t know was who it was directly to.
I shut up, not trusting my voice not to betray me to reveal my disgust for the man who stood so close behind me, his face a mask of indifference as he openly said he had the blood of people on his hands.
"Look at me, Tesoro" His voice was raw, not even the slightest tremble found in it as he ordered me.
Shaking at the mere sound of his voice, I slowly turned around to look at him. He looked spotless, his clothes clean but his face? His face was a mask. He was an enigma. One that scared the hell out of me without even trying.
"Downstairs now" he ordered, already leaving the room.
I opened my mouth to protest but he was already gone so I sighed and followed him knowing that I would probably regret this.
As I trailed after him, I imagined just grabbing something, anything to hit him in the back of the head with but we were already down the stairs and he was looking at me with a dark look in his eyes.
He was waiting for me to get down and when I finally did, he sized me up.
"What are we doing down here?" I tried to keep my voice from shaking in the slightest.
The house was empty and we were alone, he was practically looking at me like he couldn’t wait to wrap his hands around my neck and squeeze.
He took a step closer and I did the same until my back was pressed against a wall.
"Well?" He asked huskily.
I didn’t get the time to answer because the door opened or more like was pushed with little effort and someone walked in the house.
Who would dare to just barge in...
Vincenzo seemed to think the same thing because he first looked over his shoulder as the footsteps rounded the corner to the staircase where we would be.
My heart was thumping. Who was it?
"Stay still and play along" Vincenzo whispered in my ear, leaning in closer.
"Whㅡ"
My statement wasn’t completed because he did something he shouldn’t have, I felt something I should never have had to.
His lips on mine.
Kissing me.
