Chapter 26: LIVING AMONGST MONSTERS

ADRIANA’S POV

"Let me go!" I screeched as the man roughly grabbed my hair, a sneer on his face.

I had been lingering upstairs, peeking at the conversation happening downstairs, desperate to grasp what was happening when I noticed this man staring up at the stairs like he could see me.

Immediately I had retreated, tiptoeing to the room to lock myself in when I suddenly felt someone grab my hair roughly.

Damn, he was fast and silent. I hadn’t even sensed him behind me until he was just...there.

"Let go of me, you bastard" I thrashed about but he just dragged me like I was nothing but an empty sack towards the staircase.

"Look what I found" He whistled once we got to the top of the stairs and I froze, my hands still grasping with his that was tangled in my hair but that wasn’t the reason for my tense figure.

Vincenzo and another man were sitting there, staring up at us. The man looked oddly familiar and my stomach did a flip. Oh lord, that was master LaRosa.

Vincenzo didn’t seem overly fazed at the fact that his guest was manhandling me, he simply sighed and stood up.

"Ravolo, let her go. Now" His tone was hard.

My captor looked down at me. "She’s beautiful, isn’t she? She’s the family’s property, right? I’m free to use her as I want, right?" He kept asking, a sadistic tone in his words.

"Don’t make me use force. I don’t share. Let her go" Vincenzo repeated but Ravolo just tightened his grip on my hair making me whimper slightly.

"Oh, let it be. He’s just having some fun" Master LaRosa sighed, looking me over.

"Right? Father gets it" Ravolo pulled me down the stairs against my wish, pushing me roughly to the ground as soon as we got to Vincenzo.

I fell face flat, my head hitting the floor making me wince at the sharp sting.

Vincenzo didn’t bother to look down at me, he fixed his gaze on Ravolo who was staring him down. "When I say stop, you stop, Ravolo. I’m the orchestrator here, you’re not a figure in the family and you sure as fuck don’t touch what belongs to me"

I scrambled to my feet, scurrying away as I realized how close I was to Master LaRosa who was watching me with a blank look.

"What? Is she that of a good fuck?" Ravolo grinned.

Vincenzo smiled without mirth. "You can’t imagine," He said.

"You’re growing soft on us, Vin" Ravolo noted, a smirk on his face. "Keep it up and father may be tempted to take it back from you. You know? Give it to someone who deserves it"

Vincenzo’s jaw ticked but he refused to answer him, he turned his attention back to his father who was still staring at me.

"She’s clean..." His father suddenly said and I felt tempted to just crawl into the ground and die under his scrutiny.

There was something about the man’s gaze that unnerved me like hell and he was so calm about it which made it even worse.

Vincenzo cast me a glance and he sat back down on the couch, looking back at his father. "It’s getting dark. Leave" He growled.

"I don’t like the sight of it. She doesn’t look to be paying for her father’s debts" His father hissed.

"She’s my property and I sure as fuck don’t want someone telling me how to punish her. I’ll do that myself, Master LaRosa"

His father clicked his tongue and nodded. "Back with an authoritative attitude, I like it. I miss when you called me father" The man grinned.

Vincenzo scowled even further and gritted his teeth. "You lost that right years ago. Leave and I swear to god, that spy of yours... I will kill them"

"Not my business" His father was watching him carefully for a moment before he stood up, gesturing to Ravolo who was still staring down at me.

"C’mon, let’s leave. We have to get to St Ricardo in time or Damien won’t let us hear the end of it" His father announced, getting up.

Ravolo smirked, put his hands in his pocket, and strode forward but was stopped by Vincenzo who simply used a hand to make him halt, a cold look in his eyes.

"Trust me, Rav..." He whispered, his voice sultry. "You will pay for your insolence tonight. Don’t think I’ve gone soft because I’m no longer keeping you in my playroom... Watch your back" He smirked and stepped out of the way for Ravolo to pass.

Ravolo stiffened, an ounce of fear crossing his face for the first time that night. He didn’t bother to answer before he strolled out of the room with Master LaRosa, the tense air leaving with them.

I heaved a huge sigh, only realizing now that I had been holding it in. A tear rolled down my cheek and my breath came out in short gasps as I remembered the way his hands roamed all over me upstairs.

I had curled up into a ball, silent tears soaking the edge of my clothes as I stared blankly into space.

"Did he hurt you?" Vincenzo asked.

Not did he touch you. Did he hurt you? Maybe not physically.

I refused to answer, struggling to catch my breath between choked-back sobs.

"Tesoro, answer me. Did he hurt you?" He took a step closer and he leaned down to my crouched figure.

"Monsters... you’re all monsters who feed off people’s fears" I whispered without thinking.

"Yes," He replied a bit too quickly. "The difference between me and them is that I won’t touch you that way"

"You kissed me without my consent!" I almost yelled, my voice coming out as a strangled squeak instead.

"Trust me, it was either that or you would be in a worse state than this" He defended, his voice tight with anger.

I didn’t answer, I looked back into space and he sighed. "Let’s go upstairs, Tesoro. This wouldn’t have happened if you had just stayed in the room as I hoped"

No, my eyelids were heavy and I was having a headache courtesy of the hit I had sustained to the head.

"No, don’t touch me with those bloody hands" I spelled out, a sob escaping me again.

"My hands are clean"

"Don’t touch me with them..." I whispered, my eyelids forcing close.

The last thing I saw was him staring down at me with annoyance in his gaze before I succumbed to the darkness.

This time, I wished I never woke up.
