Chapter 29: THE DON’S HELP

ADRIANA’S POV

I stumbled into the house hours later, a dark look on my face as I scanned around the living room for the man whom I sighted lounging on the couch, his legs crossed and a tentative look on his face.

Son of a ....

"Vincenzo..." I hissed under my breath as I stormed up to him.

He craned his neck slightly to look at me but his gaze didn’t falter or show any signs of him even caring that I was angry.

I wasn’t angry. I was livid. Furious.

"Seriously?" I spat out as soon as I got close enough to the couch but I kept a reasonable distance away from the man.

He had been on a rampage lately and I was not about to be at his arm’s length when I was about to argue with him.

He simply lifted a brow, staring at me, not saying a single thing.

"When you brought the idea of going out to a park, I was happy as hell because I thought oh, a change of scenery, I get to walk about and breathe in the air that isn’t tainted with the likes of you" I paused to take a deep breath before I continued ranting. "But I didn’t realize that it meant I would sit in a car all day with Henry and Val, not to mention that we were staring at the park through tinted glasses!" I shrieked, unable to hold it back anymore.

He was looking at me without a shift in his expression, just a dead look in his eyes then his lips suddenly parted and he lolled his head to the side, looking away from my wide eyes.

Did he seriously just ignore what I just said?! I was about to open my mouth but he beat me to it.

"Yes, of course, It’ll be looked into. The landing pad will be built there" He said, his tone calm.

I froze at that, realizing he wasn’t speaking to me.

He nodded his head to himself then he pulled something out from his ear, a soft sigh escaping his lips ㅡ an earphone.

Oh...shit.

He finally locked gazes with me and he raised a brow again. "Well?" He sounded like he was trying to stomach his irritation to talk to me.

"Did you hear anything I just said?" I seethed.

He looked back at nothing in particular and looked back at me. "Yeah, it was hard to miss as your voice raised higher than the volume of my call" He let out a humorless chuckle.

I calmed down a bit at that. "Yeah well, maybe you can now explain what the fuck that was" I demanded.

"You’re not in a position to ask questions" He noted, leaning back in the chair.

"This one demands an answer" I retorted.

"Then let me humor you. What was the question? Oh, the whole park stuff?"

I didn’t answer and he nodded, knowing the answer already. "I told you that I’d let get a change of scenery but I never said you would get the privilege of walking about in it," He said without thinking.

"And the people in the car? Did you really tell them not to tell me anything? Seriously? You only managed to drive me more crazy than I think I am" I finally collapsed on a chair, my body unable to keep up with the stress, and realized that I was still standing.

"Help you with what? I think it just depends on what you need help with" He muttered, waiting for my answer.

I took a deep breath. "My father. I just wanted Val and Henry’s help with some information but they aren’t answering me and I have a reason to believe that you had something to do with that"

He smirked. "Oh well yes, I did tell them not tell help you with it"

"Why?! I just..." I paused and ruffled my hair, feeling a headache coming on.

He was watching me, his hazel eyes carefully scrutinizing me before he spoke. "It wasn’t part of our deal, I told you that I would protect you and you should look for your father... alone" he emphasized on the word and I sighed.

Looking up at him with tired eyes, I shrugged. "I .... How do you want me to even look for him when you won’t let me go out?"

"I will let you go out, if you told me that you want to go out for something, I will let you go out. You didn’t tell me you wanted to do anything in particular hence the..." He paused and smiled. "Precautions I put in place today"

"Then I want to go out... I want to look for information" I informed him.

"Then so be it" He simply muttered and stretched forward, picking a slip of paper which I hadn’t noticed on the table.

He was being so casual about it like he hadn’t noticed the slightest hint that I actually wanted his help. I knew I would get nowhere, I needed information and this family could help me get it.

"Vincenzo..." I called out and he let out a soft hum in acknowledgment.

"I need...iㅡi need your help" I finally said it, refusing to look him in the eyes.

There was a tense silence for a moment and when I couldn’t bear it anymore, I raised my gaze to look at him and I found him staring intently at me but he quickly averted his eyes, a frown appearing on his face.

"I know it wasn’t a part of our deal but I do need your help" I quickly implored.

He finally looked at me again and he seemed to be mulling something over. "I can’t just help you, that’s not how it works"

"Then what?"

"You have to give me something in return" He shrugged.

I suddenly felt a feeling of dread settle in my stomach. "What do you need from me?"

"Tonight? You doing whatever I say"

I bit down hard on my lip. "What? Be specific"

He smiled seeing my reaction and he dropped the paper in his hands back on the table. "Where’s the fun in that, Tesoro?" He asked in that husky Italian accent.

"I’m not agreeing blindly to something like that" my voice came out with a quiver despite how I tried to hide it.

"Fine, I’ll give you a hint of the location tonight but that’s all I’ll give you"

I waited for him to go ahead and he pointed a finger at me. "You, me, strip club. Tonight"

I froze once more at that, my heart thudding so heavily in my chest that I thought it might fall out.

Aㅡwhat?
