Space Odyssey: Spectre-Chapter 496: Not the Boss
The angel flexed her wings and the building crumbled around her. {No, General Ariel. I do not need assistance. I can handle this myself.} The angel mumbled aloud. {These subspecies of humans are merely stronger than normal- No! That is not necessary- Fine.}
Jace frowned as he listened to the angel grumble to herself. "She or it calls itself Gabriel. Do you think it is a hivemind with that body as the main control point? Sort of like a form of advanced artificial intelligence?" Victor asked as they spread out and readied their weapons again.
"I doubt it. Machines operate on logic and emotionless analysis. But she is getting angry and irritated. It is something else. Something we probably do not quite understand." The Valkyrie answered as she waved her hand as several diamond shaped drones appeared and were then destroyed by her feathers.
"The Valkyrie is right. This thing is technically a living creature. I can’t quite make it out. But that body is more like an external shell." Jace explained and he was not lying. He could see it faintly with his electrical vision. But it was obscured by the armor and external shell body of the angel.
{You...what are you? How does some remote galaxy have such a variety of human subspecies?} The angel demanded in anger as the lance started floating away from her hand. Then she grabbed the scythe and the longsword out of the air and flew forward a flap of her wings.
Jace thrust forward with his own longsword and a loud ringing reverberated throughout the area. The impact sent both the Valkyrie and Victor flying. Jace clicked his tongue in annoyance. "Make sure the area is secure and void of any civilians then evacuate your soldiers. Ulin, what is your status?" Jace ordered and instead of trying to catch themselves and come back towards the fight the pair of them nodded and disappeared out of sight.
His sword flashed with movement as Gabriel tried to cut him down with her scythe but he parried it and then went in for a horizontal slash. "We are making a retreating march. We are making slow progress because these drones keep appearing. But we are making progress." Ulin answered him as another metal on metal strike echoed throughout the area.
His own attack was blocked by the longsword. But he glanced at the other weapons and noticed they were more stationary. Either she could not use them all to attack at the same time or she was being cautious about the Valkyrie and Victor. {You have not answered my question!} Gabriel demanded.
"Your question?" Jace chuckled. "This Galaxy is ours, that is the most important point." He retreated a bit before pulling his sword back out of sight and swapping the longsword out for a katana. "As for what race I am..." He shot forward again leaving boot indents in the ground as another sonic boom reverberated throughout the area.
This time as the angel tried to block the attack with the longsword the force was too much for her stance and she was thrown off balance and crashed into a destroyed troop transport. She climbed out of it with a huff and looked at her sword which was now cracked. She tossed it away and it started floating while she grabbed her spear out of the air. {Your race is like those damn daemons. Your growth appears to have been abnormal.}
"No, I am a Spectre. Then the other two you met were a Vampire and well... I guess she could be considered her own race since she is not scanning as a human." Jace admitted as took a different stance his katana had become red from the amount of friction and heat it encountered.
Gabriel made a growling sound. {We have encountered the vampire subrace before. That is not the vampire subrace. If anything, that is a variation of the vampire subrace.} She insisted before flying forward and swiping at him with her scythe.
Jace deflected it with a swing of his katana and closed the distance to try and get a closer attack but she just flew backwards and up. Out of Jace’s range, at least as far as she knew. But Jace pulled back his sword again and started channeling electricity into his katana. It was an inefficient form of long range combat. But it should catch the angel off guard at least once or twice. "That is certainly interesting. But regardless of what races you have encountered. You will not take our galaxy. We will resist to the very end."
{Then you will die!} Gabriel flew toward him ready to attack. But Jace was already launching his attack. Swinging his sword at a rapid speed. Cutting through the air and leaving a white mark that quickly turned into bluish lightning before it turned yellow and cut through the air going right towards Gabriel who had closed too much distance to dodge. {Aaarrgghhh!!!}
A genuine scream of pain erupted from her as she brought all the weapons to block the attack but the attack made of electricity just went through the weapons. Although the initial force was stopped by them. There was a loud cracking noise before the angel fell from the sky and crashed into the ground with all of her weapons falling around her. He could also see as all of the diamond shaped drones in the area fell to the ground as well.
Jace chuckled as he swapped out his katana for his Spectre knife. "Seems like I have accidently found your peoples weakness. Now I have been going around calling you an angel in my head. But I am sure you have a name for your species that you did not tell even the Xenar." He approached the downed form of the angel whose glow had greatly weakened and weapons were laying on the ground.
The lance and longsword that he had damaged earlier were completely destroyed and lying in pieces. The other weapons were laying on the ground but were not as damaged. {...please...help... me...} He could hear the angel quietly mumble.
"Why would I help you?" Jace asked with a chuckle as he crouched over her and took a scan of her armor and shell. Getting a better idea of what exactly makes them up. Surprising him at what he found. "Oh?"
{Not... talking to you.} She struggled to look at him with her shell’s head.
Jace frowned under his helmet. But he saw a flash out of the corner of his eye and barely managed to dodge back when something hit him in the head and sent him flying through the air. He flipped over and blinked in surprise as his visor and helmet was cracked. He then landed and noticed two more of the angels but with only two wings each, coming right at him. One of them has a pair of armored gloves while the other was using a spiked mace.
Jace went to counterattack but relaxed as he picked up on something else. Then the Valkyrie hit the one with gloves backwards and into the ground. While Victor cut through the wings of the creature, it made a screeching sound before disappearing into a white portal and appearing back near the already downed angel.
{General Ariel, I failed...} Gabriel mumbled as an angel with four wings helped her up. There was a glowing hand on their hands, all four of them that seemed to be healing Gabriel. {I did not expect-}
{It is fine my devotee Gabriel} Another angel that was standing nearby but was fully focused on Jace. They were a full foot taller than the angel he had just finished fighting. With no wings on her back but he could tell she was stronger. Because while he could not see any of her ’wings’ he could sense she was the same. It was just something that struck him. {This galaxy is turning into a headache. We already know the Daemons should be here and yet we have found no trace of them. You, Spectre, do you know why that is?}
"Because we kicked their asses and they ran with their tails between their legs." Jace answered with a grunt as he watched his surroundings. Aside from Victor and the Valkyrie there was no one else nearby as far as he could tell.
"Coming in." He heard quietly over his comms. He then picked up as he saw a slight shimmer in the gray and orange sky that was still filled with falling debris.
Jace grinned as he flipped his knife in his hand and pulled out his magnus sidearm. {It is unlikely. Yet I believe you. Regardless, we will not fail where they have. We will conquer this galaxy and you will yield to us. Although, I will admit. You are oddly strong and suited to fighting us.} The no winged angel, who the other one called General Ariel, admitted.
"What is our plan here?" Victor asked as he readied himself. But he seemed to be a bit nervous. Probably because a few of the angels were looking at him warily. The one with the mace seemed to be glaring as its wings slowly regenerated. They looked like metal but were actually probably softer.
