Special Forces Medic-Chapter 661 - 623: There is No One in That Room
"You can go back!" Xiao Lin decided not to continue; he let the intern go, and someone was rushing in from outside the main gate.
"Can I leave now?" The intern was still a bit at a loss, raising his head and looking woodenly at Xiao Lin and Hua Qingyi.
"Yes! Is that your dean walking in?" Xiao Lin gestured with his chin toward the person entering.
"Yes, it is."
Zhao Yousheng ran in from outside the door. As soon as he received the news, he drove over immediately, entering to find the situation was more serious than he imagined. The people in the hallway looked like well-trained soldiers. He spoke a lot at the main entrance to prove himself and handed over his work ID before being allowed entry.
"I'm Zhao Yousheng, the dean of this hospital. May I know who you are..." Zhao Yousheng saw two people standing in the hall and hurried over.
"We are from Dragon Soul, there's been a distress signal found on your fifth floor."
"Ah!" Zhao Yousheng was quite surprised, not expecting them to be from Dragon Soul. "Let's go to my office first and sit down."
"No need to go through such trouble; let's go directly to the fifth floor. We need to conduct a thorough search."
"You probably don't know, the fifth floor houses some heavy-duty patients. If anyone claimed to see a distress signal, surely it can't be taken seriously, can it? The people here all have neurological problems." Zhao Yousheng relaxed as soon as he heard the reason; he initially thought something big had happened.
"Dean Zhao, since we're here, naturally we must verify before leaving. Please lead the way!" Hua Qingyi said to Zhao Yousheng after receiving a look from Xiao Lin. "It's not too much trouble, is it?"
"It's not too much trouble, but there are only two people on the fifth floor; I don't know which one you are looking for." Zhao Yousheng didn't hesitate either and directly walked up the stairs.
"The third room from the end of the corridor." Xiao Lin thought about the geographical location at that time, confirming it.
"The third room?" Zhao Yousheng suddenly stopped and laughed heartily. "You must be mistaken, there's no one in that room."
"Is that so?" Xiao Lin frowned, getting more suspicious about this hospital's oddities.
On the fifth floor, when Zhao Yousheng reached the platform, he pointed at the room inside the iron door and asked, "Is it this one?" He took out a key from his pocket and opened the iron door.
Compared to him, Dr. Zhou seemed much more petty. Is it due to being conscientious? No time for Xiao Lin to continue pondering; they reached the third room.
"Is it this room?" Zhao Yousheng asked again, seemingly to confirm with them.
Xiao Lin nodded, and Hua Qingyi saw his hesitation. "Dean Zhao, who is confined here? I noticed your other floors are open-style and not as enclosed as this."
"Our hospital divides the areas according to the patient's condition severity. To be honest with you, we also have some patients in the basement, far more severe than here." Zhao Yousheng spoke mysteriously.
"I've heard that there's just a thin line between a madman and a genius; is that true?" Hua Qingyi intentionally walked to the end of the corridor, opened a window, and looked down. "The environment here is not bad, how could there have been a car explosion in the afternoon?" The subsequent words made Zhao Yousheng tense; he thought he could dismiss the two after they had finished looking around, not expecting this young man to lose interest in the room and instead bring up the explosion, which he himself was clueless about.
"The police came yesterday, towed the burnt car away, and that was it. As the dean, I'm also quite unnerved about it." Zhao Yousheng stood behind Hua Qingyi, hands crossed, fingers interlocked, as Xiao Lin watched his fingers.
"I see, did your hospital offend someone? From what I know, the owner of the car yesterday was a police officer; he just left after finishing a case here and was attacked like that. Isn't it a bit hard to absolve the responsibility?"
"This is imposing guilt!" Zhao Yousheng clasped his hands behind his back, barely restraining himself from pounding his chest, as Xiao Lin sneered and walked behind him.
"When mentioning the explosion case, Dean Zhao interlocks his fingers, indicating your nervousness. What's the reason? Does the explosion case have anything to do with you?" Xiao Lin had been overlooked by Zhao Yousheng all along, thinking that the man who looked like a woman was leading. Zhao Yousheng was startled when Xiao Lin spoke from behind.
"No, no." He turned around, but his tall figure obscured his face, with only the cap shielding his features. From the uniform, he seemed to be with them.
"Dean Zhao, who's confined in this room?" Hua Qingyi pointed at the second room, as faint sounds emanated from within. "There seems to be noise inside."
Zhao Yousheng opened the small window on the door; it was dark inside. "In this room is a patient with suicidal tendencies, always paranoid that someone wants to kill him. Initially, he could still take care of himself, but three months ago, he began attacking people, so we confined him here. Who knew that about a month and a half ago, he started attempting suicide continuously."
"Oh!" Hua Qingyi nodded, disinterested. "Open this room."
Standing in front of the third room, Zhao Yousheng took out a key, and the sound of the lock turning made Xiao Lin's heart lift. With a click, the door opened. Zhao Yousheng expertly found the light switch, and the room was instantly filled with bright light.
Thick curtains blocked the outside light, the room was the same white, but there were no shadows of people. Hua Qingyi couldn't help but make a sound of surprise, looking at Xiao Lin in confusion.
"I wasn't lying to you, was I? No one really lives here. The previous patient died, so it's been vacant ever since."
"If no one is living here, why are the curtains drawn so tightly?" Xiao Lin's low voice echoed in the room. Was he remembering wrong?
"Maybe it was forgotten to be opened at that time!" Zhao Yousheng didn't quite know how to explain this. Usually, there would be ventilation and cleaning management, and unoccupied rooms would be kept dry and exposed to sunlight.
Xiao Lin walked to the window sill, and with one pull, he opened the heavy curtains. The sun had already risen from the east, a ray of light penetrating from outside the glass, as he stood there gazing at the street outside.
"Is it here?" Hua Qingyi walked to Xiao Lin's side, asking softly.
Xiao Lin nodded, signaling Hua Qingyi to pay attention to the two footprints outside the window, which were left by him when he climbed. And on this piece of glass where a face had been pressed, he searched with his eyes for the letters SOS, but the glass window only showed marks that had been wiped away.
"Did you bring the rainbow light?" Xiao Lin suddenly turned his head to ask Hua Qingyi. Someone had been here; this dean was lying.
"Yes!"
"Dean Zhao, are you sure no one has been here for a long time? Or is there someone you don't know about?" Xiao Lin walked up to Zhao Yousheng, staring at his face. "Think carefully before you answer."
"This..." Uncertainty flickered in Zhao Yousheng's eyes.
"You can apply for a lockdown order now." Xiao Lin no longer gave Zhao Yousheng any chances and directly issued an order to Hua Qingyi.
"Yes, Major General." Hua Qingyi saluted Xiao Lin, then ordered the soldiers outside to take Zhao Yousheng back to the office for surveillance.
"Wait a minute, what's going on?"
No one responded to him, not Xiao Lin, not Hua Qingyi, and even less would the executors.
Pulling the curtains back closed, blocking the outside light with heavy fabric, Hua Qingyi took out the rainbow lamp. In the pitch black, some marks began to emerge around, on the walls, floors, and even the ceiling were the letters SOS, large and small, chilling to see.
"Where are the people?" Hua Qingyi was the first to ask a crucial question. If Xiao Lin saw someone asking for help here yesterday, where could they have gone in this short hour and a half?
Were they moved? Unlikely, since they entered the municipal mental hospital, everything here remained peaceful. Xiao Lin remembered there had been a moment when lights came on briefly last night, but there indeed was. However, when he returned outside, someone from this window flashed an SOS signal with a small flashlight, proving someone was in this room.
He shook his head at Hua Qingyi, unsure of what was happening.
Zhao Yousheng attempted to make a call, stopped by people who confiscated his phone. For this kind of surveillance, he vehemently expressed his dissatisfaction, loudly protesting in his office about the violation of his human rights. Meanwhile, family members who had come from out of town to visit patients were all blocked outside the hospital, and even the staff preparing to enter for work were detained outside the gates.
"Do you know what impact your actions will have?" Zhao Yousheng accused as soon as Xiao Lin entered the room. "You don't have the right to do this, I'm going to sue you."
"We do."
The clock had just reached eight-thirty when the sirens outside the building sounded. "You want to call the police? The police have already arrived."
Half an hour earlier than expected, this didn't matter. Wu Shuang sat beside Mu Rongyun, slowly driving into the municipal mental hospital. "Isn't this a bit exaggerated?" Wu Shuang stuck her tongue out at the people stopped at the gate, knowing her workload would now be significantly larger.
After several police cars were parked on the open ground, Wu Shuang directed them to stabilize the scene and proceeded up the stairs to the dean's office.
"You're here!" Xiao Lin greeted Wu Shuang with a smile. "Dean Zhao, please come with me."
Xiao Lin didn't explain much and instead took him directly to the third room on the fifth floor. "You said there's nothing here, right, Dean Zhao?"
"Yes!" Zhao Yousheng nodded, not understanding why they were returning here. (To be continued. If you like this work, feel free to vote for recommendations and monthly tickets at Qidian.com. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
