Spoiled by the CEO after amnesia!-Chapter 63: Startled
The three men looked at each other, somewhat surprised. The girl didn’t seem to be twenty yet, and they hadn’t expected her to be both brave and clever.
However, they weren’t so foolish as to follow her back to the hotel for money.
What if she found an opportunity to yell for help along the way, attracting attention?
They didn’t want to take that risk!
Moreover, the girl’s looks were more enticing to the three men, who were already overtaken by lust, than money could ever be.
The three men continued to close in from front and back.
"If you dare take another step closer, I’m calling the police!" Jiayi’s palms began to feel ice-cold.
"Police? Little girl, do you know that here on Suwang Island, we’re the ones who bribe the police station every year? I was drinking with a cop the day before yesterday, and I even called him ’big brother,’" one man said, flashing his yellow-stained teeth, mocking the girl’s naivety.
"Go ahead and yell, beauty. Your voice is too soft. Shall I help you shout? Police! Police! Save me, police!"
Another man, even bolder, began calling out on Jiayi’s behalf.
In the small woods far from the road, the result was, of course, that no one responded.
Jiayi’s pupils contracted. She had heard that Suwang Island was a place where police and robbers were in cahoots and that law and order were deplorably lacking. She hadn’t expected it to be true; it was simply outrageous!
The three men, unable to wait any longer, rubbed their hands, hunched their backs, and moved closer to the girl.
The small woods near Miranda Beach was an enclosed space, ideal for...
The faces of the men simultaneously revealed lecherous expressions. Halfway to the girl and before they could get any closer, they heard a "bang"!
It was a dull sound, as though metal had swiftly grazed the air.
Then, they all smelled something burnt!
As if it was—the smell of gunpowder?!
A liquid splashed onto Jiayi’s face. When she touched it, her hand was covered in blood red.
The two men were also stunned. It took them a moment to realize that one of their companions had fallen to the ground, face up, after the bang. He lay on the grass, a gaping hole in his chest, blood gushing out.
This was—a gunshot!
Was someone targeting them?
The two men dropped to the ground in terror, fearing they would be next.
Jiayi’s face also turned pale in an instant. The scene before her was far more shocking than encountering three robbers had been!
She had never seen a dead person, especially not one she had witnessed dying.
Just moments ago, the robber had been alive. Now, there was a bleeding hole in his chest, and he lay on the ground breathless!
And the blood that had splattered onto her own face—
She was gasping for air, her legs feeling weak, and she had even forgotten to run.
Meanwhile, from a concealed spot in the woods, came the sound of disparate footsteps, firm and powerful, as if they belonged to several men.
In the darkness of the night, under the cover of the trees, several men dressed in black, with their backs to the light, walked toward the corpse and the three living people.
These men appeared to be locals of Suwang Island.
One of them seemed to be the leader, with dark, lean features, wearing a checkered shirt, and a noticeable scar on his side face. He glanced at the body and gave an order,
"Throw him in the sea. Take the other two back to the society."
Two subordinates lifted the body, while a few others grabbed the two ruffians, who had been scared witless, and dragged them away.
Suddenly, there was a sound of hurried footsteps from the dense woods, slowly approaching.
The scarred man realized that someone was coming, approached them, and after whispering for a moment, looked both respectful and ingratiating:
"Boss Huo, Miss Luo is fine, and I will deal with these thugs as well."
Perhaps because she was still in fear, Jiayi stood still, her fists clenched tightly, not even hearing the scarred man’s reference to "Boss Huo."
It wasn’t until a shadow descended in front of her and a tall figure loomed closer that Jiayi’s soul slowly started to return, yet she still didn’t lift her head, her body trembling slightly.
She was clearly severely frightened.
Huo Zhenyang’s eyes were dark; he didn’t know that sending her on a business trip to Suwang Island would lead her into such a tumult.
Even though he had requested in advance for the Longding Society, the most reputable on Suwang Island, to watch over her and ensure her travel safety, a lapse had occurred. They had not followed closely enough, allowing her to be startled like this.
"Boss Huo," the second-in-command of Longding Society, a Chinese man known in the underworld as Knife-brother, also noticed Miss Luo’s unusual state, "Miss Luo seems to be frightened. Otherwise, I’ll have some brothers send Boss Huo and Miss Luo back to the hotel to rest."
Huo Zhenyang fell into a silent contemplation.
Jiayi barely kept her soul together, and suddenly, someone hooked her chin with a finger, forcing her head up, compelling her to look straight at the man before her.
Silver moonlight filtered through the gaps in the forest, casting a serene glow on the man’s handsome features, his eyes slightly narrowed, thin lips pressed into a firm line.
She came to her senses and understood why Samuel had sent her on an inexplicable business trip. It was all arranged by Huo Zhenyang, and he himself had come here as well.
Her every move on Suwang Island was naturally monitored by someone, protecting her from the shadows.
Her gaze caught a glimpse of the bloodstain on the ground, her body shuddering, then she looked at the group associated with the scarred man—clearly they were no ordinary people.
Boss Huo?
She came to a realization.
In G City, he was a suave and refined business elite, where others addressed him as President or Young Master Huo.
But on this Island Nation in Southeast Asia, he was respectfully known by underworld figures as "Boss Huo."
In his presence, human life seemed as insignificant as an ant’s.
Shouldn’t she have understood this when he beat up Li Daguo and Gao Ziming in G City?
Seeing her pale complexion, Huo Zhenyang took out an exquisite and high-quality men’s handkerchief from his pocket, pulled her over, and calmly wiped the smeared blood off her cheek.
Jiayi was dazed, letting him clean the dirt from her face. Suddenly, she flung his arm away forcefully: "You, you’ve killed someone..." she stared at him in horror.
Huo Zhenyang’s eyes narrowed slightly.
"Boss Huo..." Knife-brother stepped forward, noting the young lady was truly quite shaken and had not fully recovered, about to speak, but saw Boss Huo raise his hand and shake it, indicating it was okay.
"I didn’t kill anyone," Huo Zhenyang raised his eyebrows, as if he would never bother to explain to anyone else, but for some reason, it seemed so out of character for him when dealing with this particular girl.
What difference did it make if his friends from the underworld did the killing, instead of him?
"Miss Luo, hello, we are old friends of Boss Huo on Suwang Island. You can call me Knife-brother..." Knife-brother was surprised. Boss Huo, usually seen as unfeeling in the Longding Society, was now soothing a girl with a gentle tone. Not wanting to embarrass Boss Huo, he stepped forward.
Jiayi’s eyes widened, and she hastily stepped back as if avoiding a devil.
A sharp glint crossed Huo Zhenyang’s eyes, he stepped forward and without a word, scooped her up around the waist and headed toward Miranda Beach.
"What are you doing! Put me down—"
Jiayi regained her senses and struggled desperately, but could not escape the man’s strong hold.
Knife-brother watched the direction Huo Zhenyang was headed, gave a wave, and led his brothers away.
In a short while, Huo Zhenyang reached a white speedboat moored at the edge of the beach, threw Jiayi onto the boat, then sprung aboard with a push off the deck.
Before Jiayi could even attempt to climb out, he had already started the speedboat.
With a roaring sound, the tranquillity of the coastal night was shattered as the speedboat headed for the open sea.
