Stars In His Eyes-Chapter 1798: Sincere Feelings, Part 11
"I’m going in now, take care on your way back, and get to bed right away when you’re home, understand?" Chen Ning nagged like a little old lady before reluctantly waving goodbye to He Da, taking three steps and turning back twice, moving back inside like a little wife.
Watching Chen Ning’s small, floral-patterned steps, He Da smiled silently, feeling quite cheerful on his way back. He started to quietly look forward to tomorrow, anticipating the trip to the places where she once lived and studied in the afternoon.
One night passed quickly, seemingly in an instant.
But for those waiting, it felt like an ordeal.
Early in the morning, He Da got up specially early to exercise a bit in his hotel room, then treated his wound again. Looking at the injury that hadn’t fully subsided, he ordered breakfast from the hotel. After eating, he acted like nothing was wrong, put on his prosthetic leg, and left the hotel.
After leaving the hotel, He Da took a detour to a nearby store to buy some things, then arrived at the place where he had dropped Chen Ning off the night before, ten minutes early.
"He Da!" From a distance, Chen Ning saw He Da, so she disregarded the presence of other elders at home and ran straight to him, hooking her arm with his. Watching him walk slowly, she sighed inwardly, knowing that He Da was still pushing himself.
"Did you rest well in the new environment last night?" Chen Ning asked with concern.
"Yes," He Da smiled faintly, following Chen Ning’s steps, greeting a few people at the door, and then going inside with everyone.
Chen Ning whispered introductions of the relatives in the room to him, candidly telling He Da who was easy to get along with, who tended to speak sharply, and who had a cold personality.
"My grandparents are nice; they doted on me from a young age. My uncle and aunt are also not bad, but I really don’t like my younger uncle’s family. My uncle is snobby, and my aunt speaks in such a mean way that it’s unbearable, and their kids are just the same."
Indeed, just as Chen Ning finished her introductions, her younger aunt glanced at He Da, her gaze fixating on his feet. She had only heard that He Da had a disability but didn’t know if it was the left foot or the right, so now she was scrutinizing He Da’s feet in long pants as if determined to find out which foot had the prosthetic, completely unaware of how rude this behavior was.
After a long look, perhaps finally satisfied with an answer, she withdrew her gaze and said, "Little sister, this time your Chen Family can finally hold its head high. With such a good son-in-law, your family is set for a bright future and ready to take off to the capital skies! In the future, remember to help out us poor relatives."
Although Chen Ning’s younger aunt’s words seemed to praise her parents, anyone with a brain could tell she was sarcastically saying they were selling their daughter for glory.
He Da had already met the family elders, and naturally, they knew about his status.
Not only is He Da an outstanding young entrepreneur, but his background alone is enough to make people look up to.
His partner is the only son of the capital’s bureaucratic circle, his older brother is a top military leader, and his sister-in-law, He Zhilan’s, status is enviable. Moreover, anyone with some insider knowledge knows that He Zhilan and her spouse are very close with Xing Ye and Lin Chan. Therefore, it’s widely believed that, with the power behind He Da, after marrying him, Chen Ning’s parents will certainly get a transfer to the capital and might rise rapidly to high political office within a few years!
"If you can’t say something nice, keep quiet." The first to speak was Chen Ning’s grandfather, whose face darkened as he reprimanded the younger daughter-in-law, then turned to look at He Da and invited him to sit.
