Chapter 1800: Chapter 1800: Sincere Feelings, Part 13

"Shut up! Mom doesn’t want to talk to you right now." Chen Ning’s mom’s face turned dark, wondering how she ended up with such a scatterbrained daughter.

"He Da, my mom dislikes me!" Chen Ning looked at He Da with a pitiful expression.

He Da chuckled softly, raised his hand to pat Chen Ning’s head as if comforting a three-year-old child and said gently, "Be good, Auntie is just reluctant to part with you."

As soon as Chen Ning heard this, her eyebrows filled with a bit of joy and she grinned. Then she clung to her mom’s arm, acting spoiled, until her mom finally had no choice but to gently tap her forehead with her finger and scold her.

Nevertheless, after Chen Ning brought it up, the Chen Family asked He Da’s opinion. He Da agreed, saying he would call his family and arrange for them to come over officially for the proposal as soon as possible.

Knowing that Chen Ning likes to cling to He Da, after dinner the elders didn’t keep them around to chat. They let Chen Ning take He Da around for a walk.

About He Da’s past, only Chen Ning’s parents knew. In fact, no one else knew that He Da had lived in this city for many years, during the darkest years of his life. Yet it was in those darkest years that he met the girl beside him named Chen Ning.

After leaving the Chen Family, Chen Ning begged her cousin to take her and He Da to her primary school gate. She was even stingy with her farewell words and without saying much to her cousin, she pulled He Da straight into the school.

It was the weekend, and the school was open. At this time, many nearby residents were playing with their children on the school playground. There were a few ten-year-olds learning to ride bicycles on the flat ground. As Chen Ning watched the little girl with pigtails awkwardly riding a big bicycle, bumping and stumbling, she felt a pang of worry for the girl.

"He Da, look at that girl. She’s so much like how I was as a child! I learned to ride a bike from my cousin. I was luckier than her; my cousin is much smarter than her companions. He taught me, the big dummy, in just a few days!" Chen Ning spoke with a hint of pride about learning to ride, "Even the four-wheeler was secretly taught to me by my cousin, but I didn’t learn it, hehe, so he wouldn’t let me touch it anymore!"

She pouted and said, "Even so, I had quite a few falls when learning to ride a bicycle. I stole an adult’s bike to learn, and I wasn’t tall enough. At the time, the bike felt really heavy! On the first day I learned, I fell twice and got mad, telling my cousin that I wouldn’t learn anymore, and that I’d find a husband to take me out on a bike in the future!"

"So how did you persist and learn in the end?" He Da’s eyes slightly moved.

"Because my cousin said I’m too dumb to find a husband, so I needed to learn and take myself out on a bike." Chen Ning replied softly, "Thinking back, he was so mean!"

He Da turned to look at Chen Ning. Her gaze was no longer on the kids learning to ride but on a couple outside the school grounds. They looked very young—the boy was riding a bicycle, and the girl in a white dress was sitting on the back. Their laughter echoed far and wide.

In her eyes, He Da couldn’t tell if there was a hint of envy.

"Back then, while I was still in school, I fantasized that my future husband would take me out like that, not caring about others’ opinions and just being happily carefree." Chen Ning suddenly said.

He Da froze slightly and after a long while asked, "Do you regret it? Chen Ning, I’ll never be able to ride a bike in my life, and I’ll never be able to fulfill this small wish of yours. I can walk slowly with you, but I can’t run with you, can’t jump with you, and can’t, like them, let you sit at the back of a bike and laugh heartily."
