Chapter 318: Chapter 221_2

Bai Ling’s clear voice followed:

"Crow, although I hate to see you go, I also understand your difficulties. Regardless of your choice, we’re all partners who’ve been through life and death together..."

As she spoke, her eyes slightly reddened, and her voice carried a hint of choking.

The always silent Monkey was now also staring intently at Li Dingjian, similarly waiting for him to make a decision.

Facing the concerned gazes from everyone, Li Dingjian took a deep breath and turned to the Professor:

"I want to ask you a question: how much money and time would it actually take to achieve the goal you mentioned?"

The Professor pondered for a moment, then answered earnestly:

"It’s hard to give an exact answer. Previously, I thought it would take at least ten years, but now there’s an opportunity that, if seized, could shorten the plan to within five years."

Li Dingjian furrowed his brow, filled with doubt.

Before he could ask further, the Professor paused and quickly explained:

"The opportunity I’m talking about is the goal we’re preparing to move towards next, which is also the topic of this gathering."

Then, he looked at everyone solemnly and smoothly transitioned into the meeting’s main topic:

"Three months ago, a huge explosion occurred at West Mountain, blasting open an underground palace that had been sealed for two thousand years. From that palace flowed a batch of antiques, causing various powers to vie for them and creating quite a stir. Especially those wealthy families, who moved at the news and were even willing to offer billions to purchase them."

"Professor, are we planning to go into the artifact trading business?"

Upon hearing this, Bai Ling’s eyes lit up, blurting out instinctively.

"No, our aim is not money."

The Professor shook his head, giving a rather unexpected answer: "This action is primarily to enhance everyone’s abilities."

Li Dingjian and the other three team members were stunned upon hearing this.

Enhance abilities? Could it be that the Professor found some divine skills or elixirs through special channels that require billion-worthy antiques to exchange for?

The team was filled with curiosity and speculation.

The Professor did not continue to explain, instead, he first glanced around the team members in the room and slowly said:

"Our team is already much stronger than ordinary people, with each member mastering at least one special ability. Crow’s Perception Pulse can resonate with electronic devices, making him a natural lockpicking and decryption expert. Big Hammer can enhance his body hardness and self-healing abilities several times when beastified, holding the line at crucial moments. Monkey has keen visual insight and superb Combat Skills, along with Bai Ling’s disguise and mimicry techniques, helping the team escape danger multiple times."

"But this is far from enough when facing those truly powerful organizations or the offspring of wealthy families. Our abilities are worth little, ultimately still too weak."

Everyone felt a deep sense of understanding upon hearing this.

Especially Li Dingjian and Bai Ling, whose physical qualities were comparatively poor, they could only undertake support tasks during actions, requiring extra care and protection from other companions.

Just like in the last mission, faced with the Red Tiger Gang’s pursuit and gunfire, had it not been for Big Hammer’s help in fending off bullets beside Li Dingjian, the consequences would have been unimaginable.

In reality, after several operations, the team would extract half as public funds to achieve the common goal mentioned by the Professor.

However, most of the money is actually spent on purchasing enhancing potions to bolster the physical qualities of team members.

After all, only sufficiently strong physiques can ensure survival amidst bullet rain, and more smoothly achieve action goals.

Yet, those enhancing potions have obvious side effects and diminishing returns.

After injecting them twice at most, the body will produce severe adverse reactions, such as muscle spasms and dizziness are minor issues, with severe ones even causing mental health issues.

Moreover, they are different from ordinary people, having more or less spiritual issues themselves.

Further injections thereafter produce negligible improvements, serving mostly as short-term stimulants, almost akin to wasting resources.

Even so, to survive dangerous missions better, they can only bite the bullet and use them, caught in a dilemma.

"According to the reliable sources I acquired, among those antiques are some special items, allegedly containing Shariputra formed after a certain Living Buddha’s body was cremated upon reaching Nirvana two thousand years ago, which is the focus of contention for those powers."

The Professor paused briefly, his eyes glinting with mysterious light, then continued:

"These Shariputra contain unimaginable energy, and once we successfully acquire and decode their secrets, we have hope of finding methods to further break physical limits and enhance ability levels."

"Even, it’s said there might also be ways to resolve the spiritual ailments troubling us mutants."

"Therefore, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and should we miss it, similar chances to change our fate may be hard to come by in the future."

The news thrown by the Professor was like a stone causing a thousand ripples, stunning everyone present into great astonishment and emotion.

Big Hammer’s eyes ignited with fiery light, his sturdy frame leaning slightly forward, clearly unable to contain his inner excitement.

Bai Ling was the same, her cheeks slightly flushed, eyes glistening with excitement and anticipation, hands unconsciously tightly clasped.
