Starting Today, I'll Work as a City Lord-Chapter 206: Something Anri Doesn’t Need
Chapter 206: Something Anri Doesn’t Need
“Patrol captain? What kind of job is that?” Tess was confused.
“It’s basically like being a knight captain,” Liu Feng said. He could explain it this way for now.
In reality, the two weren’t quite on the same level. Knights in this era were considered quasi-nobility- especially in Liu Feng’s territory, where they were extremely rare. He hadn’t even officially granted many knighthoods. He didn’t want too many privilege-holding knights around.
In the future, Liu Feng planned to implement a military officer system. He preferred having more commoners rise through the ranks- it made control easier, and they were often more loyal than the so-called knights.
“Eh? Me, a knight captain???” Tess’s purple eyes widened as she frantically waved her hands. “Young master, stop joking! I’m fine with beating up bad guys or eating meals, but being a knight captain? That’s way out of my league!”
“Just think of it as a militia captain,” Liu Feng rolled his eyes and said calmly. “And yes, your job is to beat people up.”
“Huh?” Tess gaped for a long moment before hesitantly asking, “Didn’t you say I wasn’t allowed to beat people up?”
“Only bad people!” Liu Feng’s mouth twitched. He didn’t even want to recall the reasons why this cowgirl usually fought.
Stealing food? What? You dare steal my food? That’s it- I’m launching you into the sky!
After all, just the other day at the pizza shop, Elisa had taken a slice of Tess’s pizza, and Tess had chased her around the table for a dozen laps.
That was just Tess’s daily routine- she could steal others’ food, but if anyone dared touch hers, she’d go full rage-mode cow demon in seconds.
She’d gotten much better now and knew how to share. Of course, she only shared with people in the castle. Outside? Anyone who touched her food, and she would teach them a lesson in being human. ƒreewebɳovel.com
“Bad people? Oh, that’s fine.” Tess agreed immediately upon hearing she’d be a militia captain.
If she were named a knight captain, Tess would’ve felt a little guilty- not because her combat strength was lacking, but because she had no clue how to manage people. What if they didn’t listen? Beat them up?
“Once you’re appointed, you’ll lead a squad of patrol officers around the city. If you find anything suspicious or someone causing trouble, arrest them and take them to the Police Department,” Liu Feng said- though he suddenly had a bad feeling.
“No problem!” Tess beamed. Her whole face lit up, and her purple eyes sparkled with excitement. Back in the tribe, only her big sister could stop her from beating people up.
Since arriving in West Sun City, Liu Feng, Mina, and Anri had kept her in check. Now that she was finally getting permission to beat people up again, she was absolutely thrilled- it had been far too long since she’d let loose.
Liu Feng coughed lightly. He suddenly felt this might not go well. Not because Tess couldn’t do the job, but because thieves and troublemakers might really get the short end of the stick- he just hoped there wouldn’t be any broken limbs.
He decided he’d assign someone to shadow her later, to make sure she didn’t go too far, though it would be very intimidating for people.
In truth, Tess was Liu Feng’s way of pushing out a beastkin representative- a clear message to all the beastkin in West Sun City. If even a beastkin like Tess could become a patrol captain, it meant the city truly welcomed their kind. If they worked hard, beastkin could gain equal status with humans.
And as for holding the line- Tess was the only beastkin in the castle that could do it. Mina could too, but she was now running the intelligence division. Anri? She was already tearing her hair out over daily administrative work.
“Young Master, have some water.” Mina gently passed him a cup and said softly, “Tess knows when to stop. She’s not actually still a child.”
“Really?” Liu Feng turned his head and saw Tess staring longingly at the dried fried fish on the desk- her expression wasn’t convincing at all.
“Uh…” Mina quietly shifted her feet and put away the dried fish. She didn’t have much left.
“Mina, give me a little dried fish.” Tess’s purple eyes blinked with pleading light, her fists pressed under her chin in a pitiful pose.
“…Fine.” Mina gave in. Tess was just too good at looking pitiful. She handed over the dried fish. “Don’t eat it all, or Anri’s gonna tickle you again.”
“O- Okay!” Tess stiffened, fighting the urge to pour the whole thing into her mouth. She was used to eating in big gulps, and being told to eat a little made her feel very uncomfortable.
Everyone in the castle knew Anri had devilish hands. If she caught you, she’d tickle you to the edge of sanity- and she always aimed for the most embarrassing spots.
Tess had been sneak-attacked by Anri a few times, usually while she was asleep. That feeling made her want to bite someone.
“Seriously…” Liu Feng couldn’t help wondering- would this cowgirl get tricked away by food? Then again, whose food could compare to what we have in the castle?
“Nicole, my chest grew again. Walking to the orphanage today was so uncomfortable. Do you have any solutions?” Tess mumbled with her mouth full of dried fish.
“I’ll help you after you get back to your room.” Nicole’s eye twitched. Why does this cowgirl blurt out everything? Can’t she see that Young Master is still here?
“Uh…” Tess finally realized, clutching the dried fish and running off red-faced, leaving Mina frozen in place.
“My dried fish???” Mina restrained herself from chasing after her. She suspected that the cowgirl had deliberately made off with her fish.
“Big chest? Uncomfortable?” Liu Feng raised an eyebrow. He actually had a solution- a certain support garment, which happened to be stored in their inner vault. Though Nicole had no idea what it was for.
“Nicole, that box number 18 in the inner vault- you guys can take those things and use them.” Liu Feng walked to the desk, picked up a piece of paper, and started writing down how to use the undergarment.
“Box 18? You’re giving us all of it? Young master, you don’t need it yourself?” Nicole remembered that box- it was full of delicate, fine fabrics, though the styles were odd and extremely small.
“I… I won’t use those!” Liu Feng wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. He didn’t want to be seen as some kind of pervert. He’d ordered those from an online store back on Earth.
“Oh right, no need to give any to Anri. She doesn’t need them…” Liu Feng had just finished saying that when Anri’s head popped in through the door, staring at him in shock.
“Huh? Young Master, what is it that I don’t need?” Anri frowned. She had a bad feeling, like a devastating blow was coming.
“This is… the instructions.” Liu Feng covered his face and handed the paper to Nicole, then immediately left the study.
God! Am I really supposed to say that airplane girls didn’t need them?
“Hahahaha… Anri, you really don’t need it!” Sure enough, no sooner had Liu Feng walked a few steps than Mina’s gleeful laughter rang out.
“Damn it, damn it! I don’t care- I’m going to use one anyway! Having one is better than having nothing at all!” Anri shouted, flustered.
“You’re faking it!”
“None of your business! I’m gonna hit you with my Eighteen Subduing Cat Tickles!”
“You pervert!”
