Strongest Boyfriend In The Apocalypse: Every Girl Depends On Me!-Chapter 22: Leaving New Land University
Everyone was deep asleep at that time of the night, some of them having the very best rest in a while.
Ethan didn’t know where to start from, as his hands were trembling in panic.
At once, he went straight to Anna, and then to Nina, Eva, Gracie, Mella, and the rest.
"Wake up, everyone!"
"We are leaving now!"
They began waking up, one by one, and they all had dark looks on their faces, looks that demanded an explanation for why he was waking them in the middle of the night.
Ethan wasn’t up for that at that point.
"Hurry up... We don’t have enough time!"
Ethan began pressuring them, and soon enough they were all up.
Nina stood up with a confused glare on her face, and without thinking twice, she approached Ethan.
"What is this, Ethan?" she asked.
"What does it look like?"
"We both know there’s no way out... Do you want to get these people killed?" Nina asked with a glare.
"No one is dying, Nina. Get your stuff, let’s leave. This place is about to become a hellhole soon. You don’t want to be here, trust me."
Nina still appeared confused, and so were the others. However, they still went ahead to pack up, and soon they were all set to leave the building.
(1:10 AM).
"Now let’s move."
They left the building and headed towards the exit gate of the university. Ethan soon remembered that it would be quite a long walk, and they might be out of time before they got there.
They were about reaching the Medicine Academic Building when they spotted a minivan by the side.
A slight smile hit Ethan’s face amidst the pressure, as he quickly charged towards it.
"With me!"
They all followed quickly and entered the van, and Ethan took the driver’s seat. Thanks to the driving tutorials he had had, he wasn’t a bad driver at all.
Fortunately for them, the keys were right inside, which was understandable, as the owner must have been here.
The glasses were broken, and some portions of dried blood could be seen. Ethan figured that a mutant must have attacked him when he was trying to escape with the van.
TIIIIK TIIIIK!
With a first attempt, the van denied them. Ethan sighed and tried again, and again, and again, but he was still denied.
"No no no no..."
In just a few seconds, Ethan was basking in utter frustration, knowing the duration in which he had to get this done.
A single second wasted could be a crucial cause for their extinction.
"No no no... Please, no!"
TIK TIK TIK TIK!
Vroom!
And then finally, the engine came to life, leaving a smile of victory on Ethan’s face. At once, he made the van zoom off as they charged towards the gate.
Anna and the rest of the girls were just there, watching Ethan risk everything just to get out of campus.
They had all been inside New Land since the disaster started, and Ethan had almost never talked about leaving.
Now, all of a sudden, he was dragging them out?
That was the strangest act they had gotten from him so far.
But at that point, no one could even try to question him too much. After summoning M16 rifles from nowhere before their eyes, they had all begun to respect him.
He was the one who had saved them from getting devoured by the zombies, except Nina, but he had just saved her from getting raped and killed as well.
They all owed him, someway, somehow, and they all knew that.
At the point of getting to the gate, they soon spotted a frightening disaster upfront.
There, gathered at the gate, were groups of countless zombies roaming here and there, some planning to break through the gate.
As soon as they spotted the lights, they all turned, and a loud sound of growls erupted from the near distance.
Light was a sign of life, and they could smell blood from a distance. They all began staggering towards the van, making Ethan’s jaw drop instantly.
This wasn’t just a problem, it was a distraction.
(1:13 AM).
Time was already against them, and having to face these zombies would keep them stuck here until the missile dropped.
Ethan knew he had to find a way.
With his heart boiling, he grabbed his rifle and stepped down from the van to face them.
DAK DAK DAK DAK!
DAK DAK DAK DAK!
Ethan began clearing the zombies that crowded the path they were about to take. There were hundreds of them, and it already seemed like an impossible job.
But regardless, Ethan kept shooting and shooting, and soon he was already getting out of ammo.
But then...
DAK DAK DAK DAK!
DAK DAK DAK DAK!
DAK DAK DAK DAK!
Gunshots began raining behind him, and he turned to see Nina, and to his right was Helen.
Eva’s rifle was out of ammo, so she couldn’t step out.
Killing a considerable amount of zombies had earned Ethan some Boyfriend Credits, so he was able to reload his rifle and Helen’s.
They didn’t really need to call Eva out after all.
DAK DAK DAK DAK!
DAK DAK DAK DAK!
DAK DAK DAK DAK!
DAK DAK DAK DAK!
The place was already becoming a scene of striking sounds, as a mountain of dead zombies began growing in the near distance.
What they soon realized was that the gunshots were attracting other zones, and soon, they decided to break through the herd now that the numbers had reduced.
And Ethan did just exactly that.
Hitting the highest speed, they dashed through the monsters and even broke through the almost fallen gate.
The next moment, they were out of New Land University, but only Ethan knew they weren’t completely safe.
He continued the pace, driving into the road that led out of the city.
(1:17 AM).
He had only three minutes to get out of this part of Gibson, and that was already almost impossible.
Ethan just had to keep the move at the highest point. While still en route, a couple of roaming zombies came obstructing the way, but thanks to his cleverness, the road was wide enough to dodge collisions.
And if there were cases when he couldn’t dodge, hitting the deadass monster wasn’t entirely a bad idea as well.
All he needed to do at this point was to get to safety with the group and prevent failing the Core Mission.
(1:19 AM).
One minute left...
"Heyyy, who has a smartphone here?" Ethan asked.
He wanted to know what part of Gibson they were at that moment.
However, the response he was hoping for unfortunately didn’t come, as no one still had their phones with them.
Ethan dropped his while running from the mutant back in his dorm room that night.
He never went back there.
Now, at this point, he didn’t know whether they were safe, or they were still in the land of death.
He just had to keep going, high speed, high hope.
Whatever was happening, he hoped all his efforts wouldn’t be in vain.
(1:20 AM).
It was time.
They soon heard a loud soaring sound behind them, and when they turned, they saw burning fire descending from the sky.
Within seconds, it had hit the earth, but Ethan was speeding his heart out.
BOOOOOOOOOOOM!
Gibson City erupted.
The sound was both disastrous and frightening, but they still held their eyes.
All eyes were on Ethan...
Now they understood.
He knew.
That was why he urged them to leave.
If they were there, they were sure that New Land University would have been erased from the face of the earth after that impact.
They would have been erased too... No doubt.
Another impression, another save.
Ethan let out a smile the moment he realized the bomb wouldn’t reach them. They were understandably out of Western Gibson at the moment, even though they didn’t know where they were heading to.
The most important thing at that point was that they were out of danger, and they could stay alive.
That was more than satisfying for them. A university filled with thousands of students, and only a dozen came out alive.
Ethan heaved a sigh of relief as he drove forward. At this point, they didn’t need to stop.
The whole of Gibson City could be in ruins, so Ethan looked forward to reaching Atlanta, where his mom and sister were.
At this point, he was still hoping that they were alive and safe.
That they might have found some safe place to stay... Perhaps home might just be safe enough for them.
But considering the mutants’ level of destruction, he had second thoughts about that.
...
They were still on the way when suddenly the front lights went off, and because it was still nighttime, they lost sight of where they were going.
Ethan simply knew what to do, which was to stop the car and figure out how to fix the problem, but just when he was about to stop the car...
At that moment...
The next thing they felt was the van tipping, or maybe it could be best described as hitting something on the side, and next, they felt the van flying and then tumbling within seconds.
BAAAM!
BAAAAM!
BAAAM!
And then the next moment, the van collapsed after somersaulting three times.
The scene went silent from that moment on.
