Substitute Wife for the Mafia King R18-Chapter 427: Enchanting Lights
Next I began to wonder what would happen to Bradon and his life now that Anthony was ready to reclaim his life back. Bradon might be less busy, which might be a good thing but something about him retreating back into the shadow of society made me feel uncomfortable. The relationship between the two brothers was far from healed, but perhaps with more time, their open wounds could heal themselves.
As for me, I felt a shudder run down my spine as I thought of my future. Bradon mentioned before that he had something planned for us, but he still never got around to sharing with me his plan. Evening had arrived again, and soon I knew that Bradon would return home.
"My lady..."
Zain’s familiar voice snapped me out of my thoughts and I realized that all I had been doing was sitting around idly in the living room as my thoughts consumed me. I hadn’t realized Zain’s presence until she was standing right in front of me.
"What is it?" I asked.
The mansion felt empty and eerily quiet in a way that I couldn’t explain. Now that my senses were back, it felt like Zain and I were the only living souls in the large mansion. My eyes narrowed suspiciously as I wanted to hear what Zain had to say. Zain was silent for a moment as if he wasn’t sure what he was supposed to say.
"What is it? Did something happen?" I asked.
"I think...you should come and see for yourself," Zain said before bowing politely and gesturing to the doorway.
"What is going on? Is Bradon back?" I asked as I hurried past him.
Zain followed behind me while keeping a respectable distance as I walked to the front door of the mansion. Something truly felt off because the guards that were normally on duty weren’t there. The entire place felt too quiet and too void of life.
"Where is everyone?" I asked as I turend my attention back to Zain.
The man had an empty expression on his face that gave away absolutely no answers and secrets. What greeted me when I arrived in front of the mansion was pure darkness in its absolute form. What was normally as well-lit roadway and garden was shrouded in complete darkness. None of the lights were on and I could not see much beyond the mansion’s front door.
"What is going on? Why are the lights out? Is this blackout?" I demanded for answers.
I could not think of any other explanation as to why it was completely dark as far as my eyes could see. The sea of darkness that stretched out in front of me only reminded me that Bradon’s mansion was surrounded by a very large garden and also the forest. It was a ride to get from the front of his property to the mansion, and now all that space lacked lighting.
"Why are you suddenly so silent?" I asked, as I whirled around to face Zain.
Zain did not offer any answer, and his lack of response started to frustrate me. I pulled out my mobile phone and called Bradon. I felt like he could tell me what was going on and what I had to do. A blackout did not feel normal, and it didn’t explain why the mansion still had functioning electricity.
While my attention was focused on the call that refused to connect, suddenly a single light in the front driveway lit up. My attention was suddenly drawn to it and I moved the phone away from the side of my face. I was mildly surprise, but nothing could have prepared me for what was to come.
I sucked in my breath and took a step back as the lights in the drive way lit up in succession one by one. Then it felt as if a symphony of light lit up all at once. So many golden decorative lights lit up all at once. Everything seemed to come to life, just like the sudden break of dawn that ended the long and cold night. The garden and even the forest beyond lit up like a sea of golden light stretching as far as my eyes could see.
For a moment, I was stunned by the beauty of the sea of light in front of me that I was speechless. My eyes widened and all of my worries and stress left me as I stood there admiring the breathtakingly enchanting light in front of me. I was speechless, but at the same time, it felt like there was nothing for me to say. No word that I could think of could describe the intense feeling of amazement that rushed through my veins in that moment.
I never knew that living in the moment could feel so beautiful. The reason behind the unexpected display of light was still unknown to me, but it didn’t seem to matter anymore. Everything faded away when all I could do was focus on the sparkling golden lights. Calm and peace took over me, but it wasn’t too long before I spotted something moving in the distant.
"He’s back..." I murmured more to myself than to Zain.
My eyes narrowed when I spotted not one but multiple black limousine heading down the drive way towards where I was standing. It felt like I was watching a parade because all the cars were decorated with sparkling golden lights and flowers. I found myself smiling for no good reason at all. Just like a young girl watching a night parade at her favorite amusement park, I let myself enjoy the sight. Living in the moment without overthinking anything felt like more than enough.
I had no idea what was going on or what was going to happen. It also felt so pointless to even guess. One thing I knew for sure was that it was definitely Bradon’s doing. Once more, it seemed like I was just another player in Bradon’s game of mischief. Despite thinking that, I couldn’t stop smiling and I couldn’t deny that I was enjoying every single second of it.
