Summoned to a Fantasy World With a Modern Military System-Chapter 80: A Night Too Long
"You know, when we were being attacked by those beasts back at the Zaforths Academy, I saved a few girls who were with me using my blood magic—yes, the same blood magic they termed as demonic arts.
"Those girls were some of the people who harassed me—well, everyone did to be honest—yet I still saved them, because I was not the demon they were claiming me to be. But when I come here, what do I see? Nothing had changed. They were still treating me the same, as if I had not saved their lives mere hours ago."
I continued listening to her without interrupting. Her expression grew more twisted as she spoke, letting all the rage and spiteful feelings she had kept locked inside surface.
I knew it was gonna lead to this. After all, none of the things I had said to her were false. It was true that she was being treated unfairly by everyone, along with the fact that she could be a useful asset for humanity and not some curse put upon them.
This time I had not manipulated or deceived someone. I had held out my hand to her, offering help and accepting her for who she was while the entire world was desperately trying to push her down.
"Last night I realised that if I wanted to free myself from this treatment, I couldn't do it alone, and there's no one other than you who would be willing to help me in that," she said, looking directly into my eyes.
'Well, Leon would be willing to do much more than that if you waited a bit more,' I thought to myself.
"I'm glad that you think so highly of me," I replied. "Although I must ask again, are you really sure you want to do this? After all, there are a few things I want you to do that I haven't told you about, and you might disagree with them later. It would be a problem if that were the case."
"It's alright. Whatever it is, I don't mind. I don't care as long as you help me out of my situation. I just want to be treated as a human again," she said. I could sense bits of sadness lingering in her voice.
"And I also want to work on that ring you showed me. I can't describe in words how much it fascinates me," she said right after, completely replacing her expression with a smile.
Her eyes were brimming with the curiosity of a child who had just found a new toy.
"I see. We have an agreement then it seems," I said, putting down the cup of coffee and holding out my right hand to her. She grabbed and shook it gently.
"Meet me at the academy's main gate tomorrow at six in the morning. Come in normal clothes and not the uniform. Also, if possible, wear a cloak," I said.
"Are we going somewhere?" she asked.
"Yeah, we'll meet up with a certain someone and then go to the place where that teleportation ring takes us," I replied. Her face lit up again upon hearing that.
Once that was done, I finished my breakfast while casually talking with Neon and left the cafeteria afterward. I went back to my room and changed out of my academy uniform, wearing plain dark grey-colored clothes along with a brown cloak.
I then took the Requiem sword with me and met with Akumi, who was also dressed similarly and was waiting for me just outside the main gates of the academy.
"Are you sure he'll come?" he asked as we proceeded to walk toward a building at the distance of a couple hundred meters down the road.
"He will, don't worry. Did you already forget the insurance I made him swallow?" I asked.
"Oh yeah, that," he said, giggling to himself. "There's no way he won't be coming after swallowing that."
A few minutes of walking later, we arrived in front of the building. It was your regular everyday restaurant.
There were tall glass windows that allowed you to see everything inside from the street, framed in black metal at the front of the building.
The walls were colored in a weathered beige that looked as though they had been exposed to years of sunlight, even though that was not the case at all.
Warm and inviting without being ostentatious, the name was displayed in simple, clean letters on a small sign that hung over the entrance.
The sidewalk outside was lined with round tables, each with two or three wicker chairs, the cushions of which had faded green stripes.
Inside, you could see waiters moving between tables, people chatting quietly, and the reflections of sunlight on glass and cutlery. It made little effort to impress. It didn't have to.
We stepped inside, and I scanned the surrounding area, my eyes skimming through the wide number of people present inside the restaurant.
Soon after, I found who I was looking for. Sitting at a table in the far corner was a guy who looked rather shady, to be honest. He was dressed in a dark cloak and had a mask that hid his face, along with a hat covering his grey hair.
He was Ed Euphemius, the guy who had the highest bounty on his head and was currently famous as the Kingkiller.
Realizing that she had been put in a difficult position Luna instantly leaped backward and created a safe distance between herself and the half blood monster before her.
"Tch!" she clicked her tongue in frustration.
Her gaze was locked at the monster who was shifting in its position as the tentacles it had realigned themselves, aiming in Luna's direction.
She leaned forward a little with her sword ready in her hand, but before she could launch herself forward a voice called out to her from behind.
"Luna! Keep its tentacles busy and make sure it doesn't get the chance to defend itself against my attacks!" Allen screamed from behind her.
"Understood!" she said, and changed her direction before kicking off the ground and launched herself toward the monster.
Rather than going straight at him she paced its side, scarring its flesh with her sword which forced the tentacles to follow after her and stop her from attacking.
This is exactly what Allen had wanted. He had seen those tentacles blocking Luna's sword head on so he was a little worried that they might have a chance against bullets as well, hence he didn't want to take any risk at all.
He raised both his hands and in no time the M4 Carbine materialized in his hands. As it appeared Allen's head was filled with all the knowledge regarding the type of weapon it was and how to use it, in fact the best ways to use it as well.
It took him just a few seconds to become a professional at any weapon he held with the help of the system.
This was a true assault rifle and not like the small 9mm guns he had been using. This gun fired a 5.56mm round, which meant the bullet was much faster and much more powerful.
It was a serious piece of military hardware, much more than the 9mm which could relatively be acquired quite easily by a normal person back in his old world.
But that wasn't the case for the M4. This one was a true military weapon and it was designed to kill, and do it efficiently from a distance.
Allen snapped the rifle's stock against his shoulder as he looked through the iron sights. His night vision goggles made the monster glow a sickly green.
He didn't aim for the head and rather he aimed for the center of its body, pointing the barrel of the gun for the gaping and torn-open hole in its chest.
It was a ruin of flesh. The broken white ends of its ribs stuck out from the wound and the hole was a wet, dark mess of ruptured organs. And from this gory and pulsating cavity, the two black tentacles emerged.
He saw Luna pacing by on the left as the tentacles chased in her direction. That was exactly what he was waiting for. Allen squeezed the trigger and a deafening, continuous roar ripped through the night.
The M4 bucked in his hands with a stream of hot brass casings ejected from the side. The bullets tore through the air before they slammed into the monster's open and fleshy torso. The bullets hit the wet flesh and drilled themselves deep inside and as they did, gobs of yellow pus and dark blood exploded outwards and splattered onto the ground.
The monster shrieked instantly. It was that low and vibrating groan again and this time it had felt the pain and it instantly reacted. The two massive tentacles changed their direction as they snapped back from chasing Luna and moved with impossible speed.
