Chapter 115: Something Edible 115

Enzo stepped out of the bathroom about half an hour later, carrying a sleeping Adeline in his arms.

It had been quite difficult due to her being asleep, but he took his time to bathe her until she was sparkling clean.

He dressed her in one of her long, black robes, leaving her damp hair to cascade down her shoulders.

His own hair was still slightly wet as well—he had untied it, letting it fall freely to his shoulders. He hadn’t bothered putting on a robe and just slung a towel around his waist.

As he approached the bed, he lifted one leg and grabbed the edge of the blanket, intending to slide it off and tuck her in. But the moment he pulled it back, he smirked.

The sheets were damp. He stared at it for a second, then chuckled, shaking his head as their earlier activities flashed through his mind.

"Right..."

His gaze swept across the room, searching for another spot to lay her down, and his eyes landed on the couch he used to sleep on.

It was comfortable enough, so he carried her over, gently laying her down and making sure she was lying comfortably before stepping back to the bed. Pulling off the sheets, he folded them and tossed them aside, leaving them to be changed later,

He walked into the closet and a minute later, he emerged wearing only a pair of pajama pants, still shirtless. Returning to Adeline, he scooped her into his arms again before laying down on the couch, his head resting against the armrest while positioning her on top of him.

Her head nestled against his chest, one of her arms draped lazily over his torso. As she slept, he rubbed slow, lazy circles on her back, humming a soft tune under his breath.

---

The next morning.

Adeline’s eyes snapped open, and for a moment, she lay there, confused, her mind still groggy with sleep. Then, instinctively, she tried to sit up, but the second she moved, a sharp pain shot through her lower back, and she froze, her breath hitching.

She could’ve sworn she heard something snap inside her, and whatever it was, it hurt like hell. Her body twitched in discomfort, and she let out a deep grunt.

Her hand gripped her hip, her mind flashing back to why she was sore in the first place. "Fuck... goddammit, Enzo."

With a slow exhale, she finally sat up on the couch, wincing as her gaze flickered around the room, expecting to see Enzo lounging somewhere. But to her surprise, he was nowhere in sight.

"Where the hell did he go?"

She waited for the pain to settle before slowly getting to her feet. "I need my phone. Where did I toss my purse last night?"

She had been too caught up in kissing Enzo to remember where she left it.

"Ugh..." she groaned, pressing a hand to her forehead in exasperation. "Can this morning get any worse?"

Just then, a faint buzzing echoed through the quiet room, catching her attention. She snapped her head toward her vanity table where the sound had come from, but her purse wasn’t on top of it.

She leaned down, dropping onto all fours to check underneath, only for another sharp sting to shoot through her.

"FUCK!" she hissed, squeezing her eyes shut.

When she recovered from that one, she peered under the vanity table, and to her luck, she spotted her purse. She reached in, grabbed it, and slowly pushed herself back up.

Fishing inside the purse, she pulled out her phone and checked the time: 9:14 AM.

Just then, a sweet aroma caught in her nose, and she paused, sniffing the air. It smelled a bit like honey and something floral. She turned her head, her eyes locking onto a tray of hot tea sitting atop the bedside table.

Her brows arched in surprise as she stepped closer, stopping beside the bed, her eyes flickering between the new sheets and the tray. Lifting the new blanket, she checked the mattress beneath and saw that it was dry and clean.

"So he changed the sheets too? That’s a first." 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

Letting the blanket fall back into place, she sat down on the edge of the bed, right next to the tray, and lying beside the teacup was a small, folded piece of yellow paper.

Her curiosity piqued, she picked it up and unfolded it, immediately recognizing the handwriting. It was curvy, but elegant—for sure written by Enzo. She began reading it silently at first, but the words made her lips part slightly, and soon, she found herself whispering them aloud.

"I made this tea for you myself. I’ve gone with Andrei for an urgent meeting, but I’ll be back soon."

And then, at the very bottom of the note— "Sorry for being a bit rough last night, and try not to miss me too much."

Next to it, was a tiny heart.

A vein popped up on Adeline’s cheek as she crushed the paper in her fist, her lips twitching in irritation. "A bit rough?" she muttered under her breath before huffing, her blue eyes narrowing as she shot a glare at the empty room. "I can barely walk!"

Her fingers trembled as she crushed the paper further, turning it into a small, wrinkled ball. "I’m going to kill that bastard when he comes back, I swear."

She tossed the crumpled paper to the floor with a flick of her wrist, then stomped her foot over it, grinding it beneath her.

She shook her head and turned her attention to the tea tray, grabbing the teapot and pouring herself a cup. Lifting it to her lips, she hesitated. She’d never seen Enzo make tea before—actually, she’d never seen him make anything edible.

"It’s probably disgusting, no doubt," she murmured, narrowing her eyes at the innocent-looking cup before taking a sip.

The moment the tea touched her tongue, her brows furrowed. The initial taste was bitter, just as she had expected—but as she swallowed, an oddly sweet aftertaste bloomed on her tongue.

Her head tilted slightly, humming as she processed the unexpected flavor. "Weird."

It wasn’t bad. In fact... she kind of liked it. But then again, it was made by Enzo, and she was mad at him, so there was no way she was going to admit that to herself.
