Chapter 125: I Thought You Quit? 125

Evans climbed into the driver’s seat while Richard took the front passenger side. The engine roared to life, and the car slowly began moving forward with Alfonso following close behind, his own vehicle tailing them.

At some point during the drive, Richard reached over, popped open the glove compartment, and rummaged through it before pulling out a length of rope and a burlap bag. He turned toward the backseat, shifting to face Adeline.

"Come here," he ordered, reaching back and grabbing her arm.

He yanked her forward, twisting her into an uncomfortable position before beginning to tie her hands behind her back. The rough fibers of the rope bit into her wrists, but she remained silent, her face blank as if she were somewhere else entirely.

Once he finished, he grabbed the burlap bag and pulled it over her head.

A musty smell hit her immediately, making her grimace and nearly gag. "This thing smells like ass," she thought, more irritated by the stench than the fact that her uncles were probably taking her somewhere to kill her.

Thirty minutes passed before the car finally slowed. Through the bag’s suffocating darkness, Adeline could hear the groan of an iron gate being pushed open, followed by the faint crunch of gravel beneath tires. She felt the car roll forward again before coming to a complete stop.

The doors opened, and a rough hand grabbed her arm—Evans, judging by the strength—and yanked her out of the car. She stumbled slightly but quickly found her footing, even though she couldn’t see a damn thing. From the number of heavy footsteps she could hear moving around, she could tell there were more men there.

He pulled her forward, making their way toward what she could only assume was a building.

Alfonso and Richard walked behind them, their gazes scanning the area. It was only now that they noticed the men stationed throughout the property, each one armed with a gun. They exchanged a glance but said nothing. Evans hadn’t told them exactly where they were going, and now that they were here, unease crept into their expressions.

A man near the front door approached and silently gestured for them to follow. They stepped inside, moving through a long hallway before emerging into a wide, bright room.

Adeline was dragged to the far corner and shoved down to her knees.

The moment Alfonso stepped into the room, his gaze landed on the figure standing in the center, and his eyes widened in surprise.

"Dacatt?!" he exclaimed, stepping past Richard to get a better look.

The man standing before them was none other than the hitman Evans had hired before.

Alfonso frowned, his confusion evident. "Didn’t you say you quit?"

Richard, standing beside him, tilted his head slightly and lifted a lazy finger, pointing at Dacatt. "So, this is the Dacatt guy, huh?"

The last time Evans and Alfonso had seen him, he had been badly beaten, and left in bad shape. The cuts and bruises on his face before were now barely visible, save for the bandage on his cheek. He still walked with a small limp, but aside from that, he seemed fully recovered.

Dacatt chuckled, shaking his head as he shrugged. "I did quit. But Evans here messaged me, said he needed a place ready and that you three would be bringing her yourselves. So I figured, no big deal. Plus... I’ll be getting paid."

Alfonso turned his head to Evans with a small frown. "Of course. You didn’t even bother telling us."

"I was going to," Evans said, shrugging his shoulders. "It just slipped my mind."

Over at Enzo’s estate, he paced back and forth inside his office, dressed in a black suit. "She said she’d be here in less than ten minutes," he thought his gaze flickering to his watch for what felt like the hundredth time.

Nearly twenty minutes had passed, and she was still nowhere to be seen. He had called her number repeatedly, but every attempt went straight to voicemail. He was trying to stay calm, but every second that passed only fueled the unease inside him.

Just then, the office door flew open with force, the handle slamming against the wall as Vincent barrelled in. He stopped just a few steps inside and stooped forward, his hands braced on his slightly bent knees as he panted heavily, trying to catch his breath.

Behind him, Andrei stepped in, frowning. "What on earth are you doing here, Vincent?" he asked, his voice carrying a hint of irritation.

Vincent lifted his gaze, locking eyes with Enzo, who was staring at him with a raised brow. The younger vampire took a deep breath, his hand pressing against his chest as he tried to steady himself before speaking.

"The girl... What’s her name again?" He paused, inhaling again before snapping his fingers as the name popped into his head. "Adeline... yes, Adeline!"

The second Adeline’s name left Vincent’s lips, Enzo moved. In less than a heartbeat, he was in front of him, grabbing both his arms and yanking him upright, his blue eyes darkening.

"What about Adeline? Did something happen?"

Vincent nodded quickly, speaking so fast his words nearly blurred together. "I was following her when I saw her car get blocked by two others and three men stepped out. I’ve seen them before at her place. They took her." He exhaled heavily, pausing to catch his breath again.

Enzo’s grip on Vincent’s arms tightened, his fangs extending as pure rage coursed through him. "Her uncles! Where did they take her?!"

Vincent shook his head. "I don’t know the name of the place, but I can show you. I followed them until they reached their destination before coming straight here. We need to hurry—the look on those guys’ faces was nothing but pure hate."

Enzo turned his attention to Andrei, giving him a single nod. "You know what to do."

Andrei returned the nod. "Of course, my liege," he responded before turning and exiting the office.
